Rocky Road by Josi S. Kilpack – Blog Tour Culinary Mystery series

Rocky Road
It was supposed to be a girls’ weekend in scenic St. George, Utah that would include shopping, trying out the local cuisine, and participating in a breast cancer fundraiser. The fact that one of the organizers of the fundraising event, a local doctor, disappeared two months ago was not supposed to be Sadie’s problem. In fact, she refuses to participate in the grassroots investigation her friend Caro, and Caro’s cousin, Tess, have put together prior to her arrival. But then she meets the ex-wife of the missing doctor. How could she not ask a few questions . . . that lead to a few more questions . . . that lead to a small town and yet even more questions. Before she knows it, Sadie is in the middle of yet another murder investigation and trying to piece together a convoluted trail of good intentions, hidden motivations, and philanthropy turned big business.

Author Josi S. Kilpack

Josi S. Kilpack grew up hating to read until she was thirteen and her mother handed her a copy of The Witch of Blackbird Pond. From that day forward, she read everything she could get her hands on and credits her writing “education” to the many novels she has “studied” since then. She began her first novel in 1998 and hasn’t stopped since. Her seventh novel, Sheep’s Clothing, won the 2007 Whitney Award for Mystery/Suspense, and Lemon Tart, her ninth novel, was a 2009 Whitney Award Finalist. Josi was the Best in State winner in literature for 2012 and currently has two books (Banana Split and Tres Leches Cupcakes) as finalists in the 2012 Whitney awards.

Josi currently lives in Willard, Utah, with her family.

My Review: Rocky Road by Josi S. Kilpack

4 STARS

I believe this is the tenth novel in the Culinary Mystery series. It is only the second one I have read. I hope I can read them all someday.
The characters are well developed especially Sadie's character. Their are a lot of characters that I think one way but turn out really different.
I wanted to like Tess more and was disappointed in her. Sadie was in St. George for a girl's friend weekend with Caro. Tess is Caro's cousin.
They planned to be part of the cancer walk which was 12 miles. Tess is a breast cancer survivor.

Caro and Tess want to help look into the disappearance of Tess's doctor. They even found some clues that the police don't have. When Caro hopes to get Sadie agree to be part of it. Sadie tells her no they should give the information to the police. Tess is not happy about Sadie taking the pictures and dropping them off to the police. Caro is stuck in the middle of the two women.

Their are a lot of strong women in this story and some I really was rooting for.

I guessed at some of the mystery pretty early but not most of it. Their are some good twists and turns that I was not expecting. Sadie does find herself asking questions with the police wanting her help.

The setting for this story takes place in St. George area. Which I am familiar with a lot of it. I could picture it really well.

There are a lot of recipes in this book. Some I am familiar with like funeral potatoes and fry sauce. They are spread out through the book.

The pace of the book was pretty steady. I read it and did not want to put it down to go answer the phone.

Does mention God,prayer and faith. Does not preach but not afraid to talk about him either.

I was entertained reading Rocky Road too bad the fudge does not come with the book.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review and be a part of Rocky Road Blog tour.
