The prodigal father returns—but this ghost is no holy spirit
When she runs into her friend’s deadbeat dad at the local deli, undertaker Emma Lee Raines can’t wait to tell Mary Anna Hardy that he’s back in Sleepy Hollow, Kentucky, after five long years. Cephus Hardy may have been the town drunk, but he didn’t disappear on an epic bender like everyone thought: He was murdered. And he’s heard that Emma Lee’s been helping lost souls move on to that great big party in the sky.
Why do ghosts always bother Emma Lee at the worst times? Her granny’s mayoral campaign is in high gear, a carnival is taking over the town square, and her hunky boyfriend, Sheriff Jack Henry Ross, is stuck wrestling runaway goats. Besides, Cephus has no clue whodunit…unless it was one of Mrs. Hardy’s not-so-secret admirers. All roads lead Emma Lee to that carnival—and a killer who isn’t clowning around.

My review: A Ghostly Demise by Tonya Kappes (Ghostly Southern Mysteries)

4 STARS

This is a fun ghostly cozy.  There is a fun quirky cast of characters.  Lots of drama, mystery, ghosts and politics.

Emma Lee Raines sees ghosts.  She ran into one out shopping and did not realize he was deceased.  It was her friend's father who took off five years before.

Only her boyfriend the Sheriff Jack Henry Ross knows that she can see and talk to the dead.  Emma Lee works in the family funeral home Eternal Slumber.  People think she is going crazy from working their.  Ever since she got knocked on head she sees ghosts that were murdered.

Cephus Hardy was the town drunk.  People thought he took off five years ago, instead he has been dead.  He does not know where his body is and who killed him.  He left a wife and two children the youngest Ted was in high school.

Emma Lee's grandmother Zula Fae Raines Payne has been a widow twice, runs a inn and now is running as Mayor.  Her competition owns the other funeral home in town.

Emma Lee is determined to help Cephus to cross over by helping find the murderer.  Cephus wants a drink of beer still.  Emma Lee gets over her head when someone tries to kill her.

I laughed, and smiled while reading this.  Can't wait till I read the next book by Tonya Kappes.

I was given this ebook to read by the author and in return I agreed to give a honest review and be part of it's blog tour.

Emma Lee raines knows there’s only one cure for a bad case of murder
I told you I was sick, reads the headstone above Mamie Sue Preston’s grave. She was the richest woman in Sleepy Hollow, Kentucky, and also the biggest hypochondriac. Ironic, considering someone killed her—and covered it up perfectly. And how does Emma Lee, proprietor of the Eternal Slumber Funeral Home, know all this? Because Mamie Sue’s ghost told her, that’s how. And she’s offering big bucks to find the perp.
The catch is, Mamie Sue was buried by the Raines family’s archrival Burns Funeral Home. Would the Burns stoop to framing Emma Lee’s granny? With an enterprising maid, a penny-pinching pastor, and a slimy Lexington lawyer all making a killing off Mamie Sue’s estate, Emma Lee needs a teammate—like her dreamboat boyfriend, Sheriff Jack Henry Ross. Because with millions at stake, snooping around is definitely bad for Emma Lee’s health.

My review:  A Ghostly Murder by Tonya Kappes

4 stars

Good mystery.  It kept you guessing to the end.  People are being murdered. This picks up right from the end of A Ghostly demise.  Lots of drama, small town life, ghosts and clean read.

I like the characters, especially Emma Lee Raines. I want things to go right for her.  The whole town thinks she is crazy because they see her talking to herself.  She risks her life for her between clients so they can move on.  She needs to find their murder before they can go. Only her boyfriend the sheriff knows.

Her business the family funeral home Eternal Slumber is hurting because of this.  Even her Grandmother thinks she has problems.  Her sister is mad at her.

There is humor,  the one ghost Mamie Sue really wants her dentures to be found and put in her casket.  More worried about that then who murdered her.

The setting is Sleepy Hollow Kentucky a small town.

I wonder what will happen next in Emma Lee's life next!

My Review Pane and Suffering by Cheryl Hollon

4 STARS

A new cozy murder mystery.  It is full of twists that you don't see who or why the murder happened.  Interesting second characters,  Along with good characters.  It is also a clean read.

Savannah lives in Seattle but she has come back to Florida for her father's funeral.  Savannah works with blowing glass.  She is going to sale the shop to her father's helper Hugh.  But Hugh turns up dead in the stain glass shop.

Savannah does not believe that they both died within a week of a heart attack.  When she finds a note from her father saying if she found this he was murdered and she is in danger too.  The police officer who is working the case is not working. He is lazy and thinks they both died of heart attacks.

Savannah's father has left her clues too figure out who killed him.  He worked in codes during the cold war.  Savannah was taught the codes in her youth.

There are two different people interested in buying the shop.  She is wondering if they killed her father.

You get introduced to making glass as Savannah takes over teaching the glass her father had signed up to teach.

Edward from the pub next door keeps bringing Savannah different teas and breakfast items.  He owns a pub.  He has secrets too.

I would read another book by Cheryl Hollon in the future.  I stayed up late to finish reading this story because I needed to know who the murder is.

I was given this ebook from Net Galley and Kensington.  In return I agreed to give a honest review of Pane and Suffering by Cheryl Hollon

My review:  Deadly Dye and a Soy Chai by by Elizabeth Ashby & Traci Andrighetti

4 STARS

Full of mystery, good humor, characters, murder in a small town of Danger Cove.  I know I don't want to get my makeup done there except for Halloween.

Cassidi Conti inherited a big house and hair salon. Business is slow. Her house used to be a brothel.
Cassidi and her cousin live above the shop.  She is taking online courses. She has moved from Texas.

GiaDi Mitri is Cassidi's step-cousin.  She does nails and makeup.  She is from New Jersey.

Lucy O'Connell is the hairstylist from Danger cove.

One of her few customers ends up dying in her salon. Plus Cass's Uncle Vinnie might have been murdered too.

Cass decides she needs to find out who killed her client before she runs out of money to run the business or get arrested for the murder.

This is book #5 in Danger Cove series but the first one in Danger Cove Hair Salon mystery.  There are 5 different series set in Danger Cove.

I like Cass and want to see her succeed in Danger Cove.  I want to see what happens next to her and her friends.

I would like to read the other books in the series.  It seems like fun different thing to have the series all in the same town.

I was given this ebook to read for free by the authors.  In return I agreed to give a honest review and be part of it's blog tour.

My review: Westly: A Spider’s Tale by Bryan Beus

5 STARS

Westly is a very different butterfly.  He is a prince of the butterflies.  He learns a lot of lessons in this cute story.  So did I..  I was busy saying that this can't happen really and was missing the point of the story.  Things a lot of the time don't happen like we expect it too but it can be even better.  Sometimes being different is better or more useful.

Westly is not a scary spider.  For those who like me don't care for them.

The  butterflies were beautiful and it is amazing how caterpillars change into them.  While ants are hard workers and work together to make everything better.  We need beauty and hard work in the world.  Everything  is important.

I liked this tale.  The pictures were to the point, clean look that fit the story.

I was given this ebook to read and agreed to give honest review and be part of Westly: A Spider's tale blog tour.

My review:  Christmas at Evergreen by Donna Alward (Jewell Cove )

4 stars

Love the cover it sets the mood.  This is a real quick read.  I like how the characters were all willing to help each other so everyone could fit in.  Even Lainey took one guest into her cottage for the night.

Todd Ricker is a cop who on his day off was out rescuing stranded motorists.  The last one made it so he could not even get home.  Lainey said he could sleep on her couch.

Lainey Price owns the bread & breakfast in Jewel Cove.  She lives in a little cottage out back of it.
Lainey is not excited for Christmas anymore but she is still very helpful and nice.

Todd always thought Lainey was too good for him now he wants to help her enjoy the season.

There is plenty of drama, romance and holiday spirit to make this a nice romance. A love scene that I skipped over.

I think this would be 5 book in season.  It is only the first I have read would like to read the others they sounds adventurous and exciting.

Easy to follow the characters and feel there setting.

It made me think about how often are action can ruin someones special places.  Or we can try and help make someones a positive experience.  Also we need to try and let bad experiences hang around.

I was given this ebook to read for free from Net Galley and St. Martin's Press
in return I agreed to give a honest review of Christmas at Evergreen.

Synopsis
Henry David Thorea’s impassioned activism in the Underground Railroad leads him away from the banks of Walden Pond into a morass of murder…
In the spring of 1848, Thoreau returns to Plumford, Massachusetts, in search of a fellow conductor on the Underground Railroad, who has gone missing along with the escaped female slave he was assigned to transport. With the help of his good friend, Dr. Adam Walker, Thoreau finds the conductor—shot to death on a back road.
When the two men discover that Adam’s beloved cousin Julia has given the slave safe harbor, their relief is counterbalanced by concern for Julia, who has put herself in grave danger. Another conductor has been murdered in a neighboring town and a letter has been found from someone claiming to have been hired to assassinate anyone harboring fugitive slaves. With all of them now potential targets, the need for Thoreau and Adam to apprehend the killer is more urgent than ever…

My review: Thoreau in Phantom Bog by B. B. Oak

4 STARS

This was a good mystery, romance, historical novel.  This is the third book in the series but the first one I have read, but hopefully not the last.

I really enjoyed the personal touch to the Underground Railroad that we get a look at.  We also get a glance at Slave trade.  They are woven into the story and draw you into the story.

Henry David Thoreau's character is a conductor on the Underground Railroad.  His family owns a pencil factory.

Dr. Adam Walker is having an affair with his cousin Julia.  He wants to marry her but she married someone else in France when she thought she was his first cousin by blood.

Julia  is married but her husband is older and still in France.  She left him when she found out he made his money as a slave trader.

The setting is spring of 1848,  Plumford, Massachusetts

Henry & Julia has come to find out about a missing conductor and his cargo.  He finds the man by Phantom Bog shot to death.  His cargo missing. Julia gets Adam to come look at the body.  When the police are not going to look for the cargo or try and find the murder then Henry and Adam will look into together.

Julia wants to have her house be on the Underground Railroad.  She feels bad that her husband was such a slave trader.

The story is very analytical.  Told from scientific facts about the murder.  It really leaves the emotion out of the story.
I am glad that slavery is mostly stamped out.  I wonder what side I would come out on?  Looking back you can see how wrong it is but those born to as part of there life seemed so easy to expect it to continue.  Would I be brave enough to offer to hide slaves?

The mysteries are simple for the most part.  It is easy to see some of the answers. but there are some twists I did not see coming.

I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Kensington Books to read for free.  In return I agreed to give a honest review and be part of Thoreau in Phantom Bog book tour.

Home For Christmas by Lily Everett (Sanctuary Island #4)

Description

Celebrate Christmas on Sanctuary Island, where the love light gleams. There will be snow and mistletoe...and two lonely hearts yearning for love, family, and above all, home.
Magazine columnist Libby Leeds has made a name for herself sharing heartwarming stories from her perfect life on Sanctuary Island. There's just one minor detail she's left out: she hasn't set foot on the island since her childhood. Orphaned and heartbroken, she departed years ago and never looked back-except in her fictional columns. Now a wounded war hero is returning to Sanctuary Island, and Libby's editor insists she cover the story by taking the long road back...
HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
Army Ranger Owen Shepard is a tall, handsome single father, and now a media sensation. He wants to reconnect with his daughter, Caitlin, and make up for lost time by giving her a Christmas to remember. When "America's Favorite Homemaker" Libby Leeds offers her help, he jumps at the chance. But the sweet, reclusive writer is more intriguing, and more tempting, than Owen could have imagined. Soon, Owen and Caitlin are spending their holiday with Libby, decorating trees, making gingerbread houses, and warming up by the fire. It's the closest Libby has come to love and family since she was a child-but until she and Owen admit what is in their hearts, the home they are creating together will be only in their dreams.
"Sanctuary Island will live in your heart long after the book is closed."
-Susan Wiggs, #1 New York Times bestselling author

My review:  Home For Christmas by Lily Everett  (Sanctuary Island #4)

4 STARS

I have read a couple of Sanctuary Island novels.  I really like it.  Some twists I saw coming and some I did not see.  I really like the plot, characters the main ones and some of the secondary ones too.

The setting is Sanctuary Island, VA. It is Christmas time.

Libby Leeds writes a magazine column about her home, family, pets on Sanctuary Island.  It is all a lie.  She has not been back since she was young.  Now her boss wants to have her host Owen Shepard and his daughter and give them a Christmas or else she will be fired and sued.

Army Ranger Owen Shepard was wounded in the war.  We met his daughter Caitlin in Heartbreak Cove.  Owen has not met her yet.  He wants to recover and give her the best Christmas.  He is single.

I liked reading about Libby making her dreams a reality.  She has found family she did not know she had.  She lied for a good reason but now she keeps getting deeper in trouble all the time.  She even has a pretend husband.  But she likes Owen.

Owen keeps walking into  and overhearing the wrong thing out of context or only partial of the discussion so he adds things up wrong.

I liked the Christmas village and makes me want to go and see it.

I would like to read more books in the Sanctuary Island series.  Especially the first two books that I have missed.

I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and St. Martin's Press.  In return I agreed to give a honest review of Home For Christmas.

My review: The Brooklyn Drop by Susan Russo Anderson

3 STARS
This is book #4 in A Fina Fitzgibbons Brooklyn Mystery but the first book I have read.  It does okay at standing alone but I felt there was some things I had missed.  Especially with all the relationships in the book.

Fina owns two business one a cleaning service and the other a detective agency.  She lives with her boyfriend NYPD Patrol Officer Denny McDuffy.  She has problems with everyone it seems.

Fina and Lorraine's friend Phyllida Oxley is passed out on her couch.  She seems to have been drugged with  a date rape drug. Phyllida only family is  15 year old Kat Oxley.
Phyllida has lots of money but does not act like it.  Someone seems to be after her.

Fina is trying to figure out who would want to hurt  Phyllida.
Fina also has a case to watch a massage parlor for the cops.
Fina's father comes back in the scene after leaving her and her mom years ago and causes problems with everyone.

I just did not connect with the characters.  It could have been just a bad day for me.

Lots of drama, lots of suspects and weird characters that made me think they were guilty because I did not like them.
I felt I wanted to know more about trusting Fina's impressions.

I was given The Booklyn Drop to read for free and in return agreed to give honest review and be part of its book tour.

Hurricane Force by Jana DeLeon (Miss Fortune Mystery #7)

Hurricane Force (Miss Fortune Mystery #7)

A force to be reckoned with…

During missions as a CIA assassin, Fortune Redding saw and overcame most every obstacle, but Sinful, Louisiana, keeps producing new challenges for her. When a hurricane blows through, it brings a shower of counterfeit money raining down on the tiny bayou town.

When the money is linked back to Ahmad, the arms dealer who issued the kill order on Fortune, everyone is worried that her nemesis is far too close for comfort. When Ahmad’s men turn up in Sinful, the situation becomes life-and-death for Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie, and Deputy Carter LeBlanc learns Fortune’s true identity.

As Swamp Team 3 rushes to locate the counterfeiter, Fortune hopes to take down Ahmad and free herself from her fake life. But will her relationship with Carter make it now that he knows the truth?

My review: Hurricane Force by Jana DeLeon (Miss Fortune Mystery #7)

5 stars

I laughed so hard in this book and yes most of it was of Gertie.  It is full of drama, laughter, mystery,
murder.  I want more of Miss Fortune adventures.. The first chapter is worth the price of the book.

This is the seventh book of the Miss Fortune mystery.  Each one is about a week of time and follow each other in Sinful, Louisiana. Fortune is a CIA Assassin who cover was blown and sent into Sinful to hide out as a beauty queen librarian. Only 4 others know who and what she is.

Ida Belle, and Gertie, are two seventy + single ladies that were spies during Vietnam war. Nobody in Sinful know that either.  They recognized who Fortune is and they end up getting involved in everything in Sinful.

This can stand alone but who would want to just read one of Miss Fortune series.

A hurricane comes toward Sinful and during it, lots of counterfeiter bills are blowing around. Arms dealers are coming to Louisiana who has put the price on Fortune's head.

I will be looking for more books from Jana DeLeon in the future.

My review:  Perish in the Palm by Kari Lee Townsend

4 stars

This is the fourth book in the series Sunny Meadows Mystery but the first book that I have read in the series.  While it does stand alone, I know I missed a lot of the characters relationships in the past. I would have liked to read the other books first in the series.

I had no clue who the murder was and why. Plenty of suspects.

The one character I would of really liked to know more about there history is Morty the cat.  He really has a bad reputation.  I can tell he must have done a lot to some of the characters.

Sunny is the main character.  She reads palms, is physic, helps the police.  Her parents don't believe in her.  Neither does her boyfriend Detective Mitch Stone.  She does have some good friends who do.

Sunny gives a reading for entertainment and the next day he is murdered at her bestfriend's wedding.  Sunny's mother is the prime suspect.

I cared about Sunny.  I wanted to see her and Detective Grumpy Pants work things out.  I really liked the ending. I would read more about Sunny.

The setting was Divinity, New York.

This has plenty of drama, characters, murder, visions and a good dose of humor. It is also a clean read.

I was given this ebook to read and in return I agreed to give a honest review and be part of Perish in the Palm blog tour.

Fatal Exchange by Cindy M. hogan

Fatal ExchangeFor 19-year-old Christy Hadden, it’s life as usual as a spy, only this time in Paris, France. Her mission: retrieve a flash drive containing evidence that a high public official is working to destroy Paris. Pretty standard, until someone steals the drive from her. Forced to abandon her position protecting the informant, she goes after the thief, but returns empty handed—only to find her informant dead.
Christy's failure taints her reputation at Division and the director has lost all faith in her. But Christy isn't one to slink into the shadows. Alone and disgraced, she decides to track down the drive and solve the murder, not only to redeem herself as a spy, but to give meaning to her informant’s sacrifice, and perhaps even save Paris.
Suspenseful, with the right amount of romance, and awash with action, Fatal Exchange will send you on a thrill ride that will be hard to forget.

My review: Fatal Exchange by Cindy M. hogan
5 STARS
I was excited to read the next Christy book.   This is the third book in the Christy series.  But before that Christy was in three Watched series.  So her character is well built, but she is always learning changing and saving people.
It is full of drama, action, zest and danger in a high energy novel plus a clean read..  I hated to put the book down.
This time Christy is in Paris, France.  She is a spy for division.  Her mission is to meet someone who is going to drop information on the train but something goes wrong and she loses the information and the informant is murdered.
Christy is dressed down and kicked off the case.  She is only 19 years old.  Her handler Jeremy has been on a different case for past 4 months and can't be reached.  Christy decides she can't just let the case go she is determined to find the flash drive.
You never know what Christy will look like next time you see her.  She is smart, fast thinker and reacts fast to the different situations.
This has a lot of twists and turns.  Some I guessed at others took me by surprise.
It makes you think to be a little more aware of your belongings.  How easy and fast pick pockets can be.
I will keep reading Cindy's novels they are always smart, fun to read.
I was given this ebook to read for free and in return I agreed to give a honest review of Fatal Exchange.

My review: Strong Women  Extraordinary Situations by Margaret Daley

4 STARS

This is three books that have been reissued together.  They are full of mystery, action, romance and Christian stories.  They are short entertaining and a clean read.  I read all three right after each other.

Deadly Hunt

Tess Miller is a bodyguard.  She usually guards women and children.  She is on vacation at her Uncle's cabin by herself when someone crashes into the cabin.  He is bleeding and passes out.
Shane Burkhart would not have survived if he had not found help.  He does not know why someone would shoot him.
Lots of twists and not sure who wants Shane dead. They both have issues they need to workout.  I liked it.
 Deadly Intent
Texas Ranger Sarah Osborn is asked to help with cattle rustling case.  She also needs to go see if a horse theft is part of it. The only problem it is at her old boyfriend's ranch.

Ian O'Leary has come back after his father's death to run the ranch.  He has left the FBI.  He joined after 9/11 where his friend had died.  He broke thinks off with Sarah badly back then.
Now someone is out to ruin him.  He has made plenty of people mad at him.

Deadly Holiday:

Tory Caldwell witnessed a hit and run.  She had to go down the mountain before she could call it in.
When she and the police made it back.  There was no sign of anyone dead.  There was blood on the road.
Tory did the right thing.  Now she is being harassed, framed and everything is going against her.
No one believes her but her neighbor Jordan Steele.  He has the skills to help her.

This last story made me frustrated with the cops. But I liked how it ended.

I would like to read more books by Margaret Daley in the future.  I bought this box set for .99 cents.

Fires of Invention by by J. Scott Savage

Description

Trenton Colman is a creative thirteen-year-old boy with a knack for all things mechanical. But his talents are viewed with suspicion in Cove, a steam-powered city built inside a mountain. In Cove, creativity is a crime and “invention” is a curse word.

Kallista Babbage is a repair technician and daughter of the notorious Leo Babbage, whose father died in an explosion—an event the leaders of Cove point to as an example of the danger of creativity.

Working together, Trenton and Kallista learn that Leo Babbage was developing a secret project before he perished. Following clues he left behind, they begin to assemble a strange machine that is unlikely anything they’ve ever seen before. They soon discover that what they are building may threaten every truth their city is founded on—and quite possibly their very lives.

My review:  Fires of Invention

5 STARS

I did not want to put the book down. I wanted to see what would happen next.  I was drawn right away into the adventure.  It is a exciting, clean read filled with drama.

The setting of this book is a society that lives inside a mountain.  Never going outside because the air was toxic and full of diseases.  They are a society that it is wrong to be creative and invent anything not on approved lists. Trenton does not fit in.
If you look at it you can see how restricting creative, discovery, inventions and books you can control most people.   The idea that people are punished for drawing is unreal, but some are really not allowed the freedoms to do that.

I would hate to be told what foods to eat what day, what job to train for no matter you are more fit for another job.

I like how Trenton Colman a thirteen year old was smart and always thinking.  He wanted to help people. he was curious, loved machines and wanted to learn more about them.  He also was a hard worker.

Kallista Babbage her father was someone who did not fit in.  He is held up as a wrong example a inventor that killed himself and others by his invention.  He had secrets.  She wants to find out the information he leaves. She has no friends.

Kallista and Trenton follow the clues to find and build what her father left clues for and learning more about there world as they do.

This was a book that I want to read the rest of the series now. I would read more books from J. Scott Savage.

I was given this ebook from Shadow Mountain Publishers and Netgalley.  In return I agreed to give honest review of Fires of Invention.
