My review: Kicked to the Curb By Joanna Campbell Slan

The craft and reusing items of the story get a 5 stars. Very creative. I would love to have that talent.

I liked the mystery part of the story but I figured out where it was going and why really early in the story. There was part of the mystery that I did not figure out right about though.

Cara Mia Delgatto at first seemed like a weak character to me, but then she got a scolding and pulled herself up and started to change. Cara loved somebody who to me did not deserved her. I like the guys who want to date her now.

She works with some talented ladies in her business. I wanted to see what they made.

Cara had a big fight with one of the reporters from her media blitz day. Then Kathy went missing from that night and later found dead. Cara became a suspect.

I like the drama, the characters, the romance angle I wanted to talk some sense in a few of the characters at times. Though I do not know who I want Cara to fall for only who I don't want to see her with. I also liked that it was a clean entertaining story.


I want to read more books from Joanna Campbell Slan in the future.

This is a reprint that book was by Jennifer Stanley. They have been rewritten or polished up and now under the name Ellery Adams.
This is the second book of the series that I have read today and looking forward to reading two more this week.

This is a cozy that is set in around Hope Street Church bible study class. So their is lots of talk of scriptures, prayer and a clean read. I have enjoyed reading this series. I did not read the books first time around so can't say if they have changed a lot.

Cooper is the central figure of the book. She has joined the Hope Street Church bible class by accident. She is single had a few dates with Nathan who is in the bible class. She fixes copiers for work, gardens and lives over her parents garage.

The bible class has been asked to help volunteer for two months at a charity that takes meals to shut ins. While at training Cooper finds out somebody has been stealing from some of the old folks. Two of them were found dead.

The bible class wants to find the guilty before anyone else dies. They don't want to see the charity stop doing good.

This story hit close to home to me in a couple of ways. First off no one is trying to kill me. I get out at least once every other week or so. When they were talking about the people being poor and houses were run down and messy.
I was surprised to realize they could be talking about me. I was stunned. I know I am poor but also very blessed. It opened my eyes. okay house is over 100 years old and needs some work. I am on disability. Thought of but havn't acted on finding out about meal programs yet.
income level was what hit it for me. But at least house is paid for. Girls both call regular and email. Both in college and one stuck without car and no public transportation to here. No one is trying to rob me either.

It is sad to hear about some robbing those who might have only one special thing and killing the innocent because they can.
Their are lots of suspects and they all seem nice and helpful to give their time and help to those who need it more. Lots of drama, likeable characters, situations I could relate too. It kept me guessing who the guilty party was.

My review: The Path of the Crooked by Ellery Adams( A Hope Street Church Mystery #1)

This book is a reprint that was called Stirring Up Strife by Jennifer Stanley. She has rewritten them but the basic plot is the same. I did not read the story the first time around.
I enjoyed The Path of the Crooked. I plan to read the next in the series The Way of the Wicked.
Cooper Lee gets invited to come to church and ends up in a bible study class. So there is a lot of talk of the bible, prayer. It fits right into the story. So this is full of mystery, romance, likeable characters and drama in a clean read.

Cooper is at time of change in her life. Her boyfriend had dumped her, She has moved back home to apartment over her parents garage.
No real friends. She is invisible at work most of the time. She gets invited to Church by Brooke Hughes one day while she is fixing her copier. She arrives at wrong time and gets taken to a bible class.

Cooper meets a lot of new people in the class and before it ends they find out that Brook was murdered and her husband has been arrested for it. The Bible class does not believe Wesley murdered his wife Brook. They want to help prove he is innocent and find the guilty person.

I like the cast of characters in the bible class. They work together to help each other and other members of their church and neighborhood when they see a need.

Cooper soon is involved in helping others and makes more friends along the way.

There are a lot of food talked about in this book and at the end of the book is recipes for some of the food. It does make you hungry for fresh homemade cookies.

I love the book and dvd with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. This is my second year of receiving their Christmas book and DVD for reviewing. It is also going to be the second time I am going to buy a couple of the book & Dvd as Christmas gifts.

The Dvd was beautiful, the singing wonderful and I enjoyed the actors and choir perform. It was peaceful, full of Christmas Spirit.
The story tells about Charles Dickens of his life and what was going on in his life. Why he wrote Christmas Carol.

I loved watching Charles and Spirit of Christmas flying in the air over the conference center. The Mormon Tabernacle choir as always sounded wonderful and looked wonderful. I wish I could sing like that and inspire like that.

The book tells the story too with out the music. The Pictures are beautiful. They are art I would love hanging on my walls if it would not destroy the book. Brandon Dorman is a true artist in my eyes.

This is another book to add to my yearly Christmas must read or watch. It leaves you feeling uplifted.

My review: Discern by Andrea Pearson (YA Paranormal/Soft Horror)

I can see why this book is called a soft horror. If you really are scared of spiders you might freak at one scene. I don't like them but did not like thinking of the one scene. There is a body count. So I would not recommend this book to young children who you did not want your kids to see Harry Potter book 7.

This is my first book of Andrea Pearson's that I have read but it won't be the last. Can't wait till the next full book comes out
in Katon University.

I did not the book down. It was interesting and I wanted answers to all the puzzles about Nicole.

Nicole Williams is the central figure. She is just starting college. She is a fourth child which makes her have magic and called Arete. Nicole got her power late and still has not figured out how to use it. Katon University is one of three Arete University in the states.
Nicole also has problems with her parents. She is talented and smart.

Nicole has so much drama happening around her. Spiders are getting into her room and no matter what they do seems to get worse each night. A book follows her around. Austin the most powerful freshman seems to ignore her, like her and stares at her.

There is lots of violence the last part of the book. But not the kind you might be used too.

I like the characters, want more of them. It would make a great movie too.

My review: FATAL BRUSHSTROKE by Sybil Johnson ( An Aurora Anderson Mystery#1)

I was surprised that this was book #1 in the series. The characters have detailed background and show the history. I like Aurora and her friend Liz. I did guess the murder early on and what the murder weapon was, but not all the motive and why frame Aurora.

Aurora does not tell the police everything she knows or the full truth right away because she does not trust the police with good reason. The Chief of Police can only see her as the guilty party because of who her parents were.

Why do people blame the innocent children for things that the parents do even before they were born?

Rory finds a body buried in her yard and does the right thing and calls the police. It was her teacher on tole painting that she had taken a lesson from her a couple of weeks ago.

Rory's adopted mom owns a craft store. This is centered around tole painting. Which takes a lot of time to do.

Rory works on computers from home. She also helps her mom out in her store. She is single just broke up with boyfriend. Her good friend Liz sells homes.

Detective Green is pretty new to town. He is looking at Aurora as one main suspect but he is also doing his job. He is good looking. He is very serious.

The setting is Vista Beach, CA it is a mile wide and two miles long on the coast.

I would read more books by Sybil Johnson in the future.
