Fenton groaned and put his saucer back on the tray, making an instantaneous decision that eased his mind quite a lot. To look at every woman he met as a potential wife was irritating, and after only two weeks he was quite tired of it. Perhaps the solution was to orchestrate a match that would not lay all aspects of matrimony at his feet all at once. Perhaps treating it as a business arrangement would help it to be exactly that, thereby freeing him from all the discomfiting realities he was not yet prepared to face. “I leave for Fentonview on Tuesday and shan’t be back for a week. Courting is such a boring prospect, and you yourself said that to become infatuated with anyone might become a complication.” He paused, considered one last time what he was going to say next, and decided he felt as good about it as could be expected. “You like Alice Stanbridge and feel she would make a good wife for me?”
Lady Chariton looked confused and perhaps a bit concerned. “I do, but-”
“Then that is good enough for me,” Fenton said, rising to his feet and smiling broadly at his mother, who stared back at him in surprise. “I do find her appealing and what’s more she is not a silly little thing without a practical thought in her head.”
His mother’s eyes widened and her eyebrows rose upon her forehead. Fenton struck a pose of consternation, with his thumb and forefinger on his chin as he looked toward the window a moment, then nodded crisply and turned back to his mother who still looked shocked by his pronouncement.
“Yes, I think that Alice Stanbridge is exactly what I should like in a wife, and so I shall see to it before I leave for Hampshire-I see no reason to wait until Michaelmas and might as well get it over with.” He leaned in and kissed his mother’s hand. “Thank you for your help, Mama. I shall let you know how she responds to my proposal.”

Josi S. Kilpack hated to read until her mother handed her a copy of The Witch of Blackbird Pond when she was 13. From that day forward, she read everything she could get her hands on and credits her writing “education” to the many novels she has “studied” since then. She began writing her first novel in 1998 and never stopped. Sheep’s Clothing won the Whitney award for Mystery/Suspense in 207 and Wedding Cake, book twelve in the Sadie Hoffmiller Culinary Mystery series won in 2014. My review: Lord Fenton's Folly

This is a regency romance novel. I loved the characters. especially Alice. Lord Fenton took sometime to like him. The plot was interesting and kept me wanting to see what would be next.

It is a clean read. Lots of drama.

Alice is a young girl when we meet her. She wants a garden for herself at age 7. Lord Fenton helped her to get it.


Then years later we see Lord Fenton a dandy in ton. He drinks, gambles and his father threatens to make his cousin his heir to the Earl and properties. If he does not stop his bad habits and marries. He needs to prove himself.


Alice has still found her puppy love for him still. So she accepts his marriage proposal. Then finds out it will be in name only. She is hurt.


The first half of the book is interesting look at the ton. But I love the part when they start bickering and the rest of the book. The more you see why the characters act the way they do and understand each other better. Has some twists that I did not see coming.


I like Josie S. Kilpack stories and would read more of her books.

My review: A Daddy for Christmas by Linda Ford (Cowboys of Eden Valley, )

Cute story.  It was full of charm.  It had some sad history, but hope for a better future. Some drama. A clean read.  It was also full of scripture, prayer but not preaching just part of the story.

 I loved the characters. Blue Lyons had a sad past.  He was a loner and tried to stay away from children. He was working in the church making the pews.

Clara Weston is a widow with two cute kids. She doesn't want charity. She wants to prove she can take care of her daughters.  She is planning to leave as soon as the stage comes back.

Eleanor is eight years old and Libby is seven.  They pray for different things than their mom. They want to stay where they are.  

I loved watching them interact with Blue.  They helped him so much while he helped them.

I really like the series of Cowboys of Eden Valley.  I look forward to reading sometime the books that I have missed in the series.

I like reading books by Linda Ford.  They are uplifting, full of drama, trials and strong characters.

Full of suspense, drama , action.  It is hard to know who to trust until the very end. It is a clean read. It is good but at times confusing about who is doing what and why.

Rikki Allen comes home to her townhouse in time to hear a shot and someone run out of her house.  She finds her best friend dead.

Rikki is a widow who has distanced herself from her family after her husband died.  She keeps in contact with her mother but she has been ill. Her family is Alvanetti.  Known notorious crime family.  She has no proof of it.

Blain Kent is a police detective and is out running when he hears the shot and scream.  He knows Rikki is hiding something. but he plans on finding the murder.

When Blain takes Rikki to her family's mansion he realizes what she has been keeping from him.  He now knows he can't trust her but knows her family will protect her.

Someone wants to kill Rikki but ends up killing people around her instead.  She has no idea about who wants her dead.

The setting is Millbrook Lake, FL modern day.

This is the second book in the Men of Millbrook Lake series.  The only one I have read.  These friends meet and realize that they all have served in the military.

This is Ryan Colton's story.  He gets the DN A testing from the window broken at his family's ranch barn window and does not like the results says it is his sister Greta's DNA. He asks for the test to be run again.

Ryan is a detective in Tulsa Oklahoma.  His family owns a big ranch and has money.  His ex-girl-friend is the one who ran the DNA tests.  He broke up with her ten years ago when he was deployed again in middle east.

 Susie Howard was heartbroken when she got the dear John letter.  She has kept some secrets from him.  She decides to help figure out what is going on with Greta when she is charged.

Ryan feels bad when he has to ask Greta to come into the police station to talk to him.

This is full of mystery that is easy to figure out part of it.  Lots of drama, one love scene, makes me want to read the next book in the series.  Did not put book down till I finished it.

Ponderize, Save 2 goals

So I decided to take these two challenges from a talk this week. 

1. First was to save every week.  The amount is your personal goal. 
     My goal is survey amount I earn on paypal. 3 a survey


2. To pick a scripture each week,  write or post where you can see it all week and ponderize it all week long to help fight all the evil in the world.  If we are thinking about a scripture all week will help us to keep our eye to the Lord.

   Luke 21:36  is first goal  10/4/2015

36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.


Why I chose this scripture.  I need to pray more and better.  Love the promises

My review:   Nowhere To Hide by Lindsay McKenna  (Delos #1)

I love reading the first book in a new series. Delos is Lindsay McKenna's new series. It is full of drama, exploring, romance and with characters with heart.  There is a couple of love scenes towards the end of the story that i did skip over.

I really loved the scenes with Lia and the children.  She really cared for them and thought they were important.

Lia Cassidy was attacked when she was in the army.  She fought back and has the scars too prove it.
Lia now manages a school in Costa Rica for the Delos charity.  She works more than full time there.  She does not think she will ever get married.

Lia loves to go Caving.  Makes me want to go too. I can imagine how it would be from the great descriptions in the book.

The school gets attacked and the two teachers murdered and the school gets burned down.  That does not stop the school, Delos or Lia.  Lia has a plan.

Dilara Kemel-Badem Her family started Delos charities in 1950's.  Dilara is a matchmaker.  Her employees are part of her family. She married U.S. Air Force Major Robert Culver in 1990.

Robert Culver now General. They have three adult children in the armed forces.  Robert and Dilara are going forward to protect all there charities around the world with there own force. Artemis Security.
They are going to protect Lia and the new teachers and children.  Lia gets Cav Jordan as her personal protection.

Cav has his own past troubles. A former US Navy Seal.  I really like Cav.  He falls for Lia fast but takes time to get to know her and help her gain self confidence.  Cav is determined to keep her safe.

I look forward to reading more of the Delos Charities in the future.  I can see why such a need for both the charity and for the security force to protect them.  It is modern and entirely believable.

My review: Plantation Shudders by Ellen Byron

This is the first book in a new series set in Pelican,  Louisiana. It is full of characters, plantations, murders and feuds.  It is full of atmosphere , suspects and food.

Maggie Crozat has returned to her home after living in New York.  Her family has turned their plantation into a bread and breakfast to save it.  Maggie's mother side of the family  Doucet had turned their plantation over to the state.  Maggie also is a tour guide at Doucet Plantation.  Maggie is a artist.

They are full up when a couple of senior citizens newly weds die within moments of each other during a storm. where  everyone is around after dinner.

Police Chief Rufus Durand hates the Crozat family.  He blames his family's bad luck to their ancestor cursing his family.  His family plantation home is falling apart.  He makes things worse for them.  His new detective is his cousin Paul Durand called Bo.

Bo is divorced with a son.  His ex-wife and husband has moved into the area and he wants to live close to his son.

 I like the way Maggie goes about to clear her family's name.  She decides to give her workers a vacation and cleans the guest rooms and finds out what secrets her guests are up too.

I would read more books by Ellen Byron in the future.  I liked reading Plantation Shudders.
