Yesterday's Stardust by Becky MelBy

4 STARS
I admit to listening to the book on my kindle and sometimes I got lost for a few seconds as it switched back and forth from the 1920's to 2012. If I was reading I would not got lost as often.
One thing I loved was the questions they ask you at the end makes me think of the story a little different way.
Dani is a reporter for a newspaper and gets involved in her stories. While they are discussing story ideas she gets a phone call from a teenager she interviewed a few months ago China. China is mad that Dani told her to leave her abusive boyfriend and she did. Now her boyfriend shot himself because she left. China blames Dani.
Dani goes back to where the shooting happens and realized China was taken in for questioning by the police. After the cops left the apartment Dani went in and then realized it would not look good if she is caught their. She is worried about China.
She decides after dinner at the Italian restraunt across from China's apartment to stake out the apartment from her car.  Dani finds a journal from the 1920's
The story goes from the 1920's to now and how the people are going through some of the same problems.
Nicky is a chef at his family restraunt that has been in his family for  generations. He is also the manager.  He calls the police because he thinks someone is drunk or dead parked in front of his restraunt in a stolen car owned by Vito.  Dani had fallen asleep in the car that she borrowed while hers was getting fixed. The policeman is Todd Nicky's cousin.  After they called Vito and he confirmed that he loaned Dani his car they let her go.
Vito and his wife had Dani over for dinner and set her up with Todd but also was Nicky and his sister Rena was their.
Francie was raised on a farm in the 1920's. She spied on her father and his business of selling moonshine.  She wanted to go to Chicago and help her sister with raising her nephew. Her parents were keeping it a secret that her sister Suzette wanted her help. Francie saw two of her dad customers in his barn while he was gone and decided to help them with buying the moonshine and when she over heard them saying they were going to Chicago she asked if she could go with them. They said yes if your ready to go in 15 minutes.
Francie age 15 went with them and found out they were crooks and was almost killed. She had to do what they said or else they could kill her or her family especially her nephew. Also was given lots of stuff so she could play certain roles they wanted her to play. Francie could not figure a way out of the mess without having to leave her nephew and sister their.
back in the present Dani is looking to help China. She knows about the gang she is in. She also finds out that Rena is in a gang and feels trapped in it.
Nicky has no idea his sister is in the gang. Dani shares the journal with him but they only read in order no skipping ahead. Nicky wants to date her. Todd wants to take Dani on a ridealong and show her the neighborhood. Dani and Evan her cameraman go undercover. They are both Christians and Dani decides she wants to help the kids more. She does not let anyone but Rena know she is moving into the now available apartment across from the restraunt.
The two stories come together really good and you get drawn in Francine story and want to know what happened to her did she ever get out from the mob?
Can Dani help Rena, China and some of the other teens or are they stuck in the gang for life.
I really enjoyed reading Yesterday's Stardust and look forward to reading more books from Becky. I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley.

A Secret Disgrace by Penny Jordan

4 stars It's sad that this is the last Penny Jordan novel. I have read her books for years. She passed away on Dec. 31,2011. She will be missed. Louise Anderson is trying to get her grandparents ashes buried in the graveuard of the church of Santa Maria. It was thier last wish. Louise has not been back to Santa Maria since 10 years ago she had shamed her family and they were asked to leave thier rental. Her father whos attention she has always tried to get said he was done with her. Her mother too did not want her. They wanted to get rid of her baby which she would not do. Her grandparents welcomed her and helped her. Duke of Falconari Caesar remembered her well and knew she had not forgiven him since she never answered his letters 10 years ago. Louise was surprised to hear Ceasar had recieved a letter after her grandfather died telling him he was a father and how good a mother was but her son needed a father figure in his life. Caesar asked if it was true? and when she said yes but they did not want anything from him. The Duke demanded a DNA test and if she tried to leave the island he would stop her taking his son. Thier are some love scenes in this book. I like Louise she admitted her mistakes than she got over them and made a good life for her and her son. Also feel bad about the way certain people treated her. I would like to go back and read the Penny Jordan books that I have missed sometime in the future. They also have people trying to hurt someone because of jealousy. Kathleen Alexander is visiting the Valley of Fire when her car breaks down and her jug of water is empty. She passes out in the middle of the road. Steven Winngate was riding his motorcycle on his way to a business meeting when he almost hit the car in the middle of the road. He could not wake the blond and he figured out the car was not working. So he locked up her things in the trunk and tied her to him on his bike to take her to get help. Steven finally came upon cop car and flaged them down and told then where he found her. They asked for his id and thought he was not The wealthy oilman. They also saw his gun in his boot so they cuffed him, when he got angry at them. Before they could get him to the jail they found out he was telling the truth. Kathleen also goes by the way Brandy Alexander writer but she does not like to tell people who she is. The ER Doctor comes on to her and she says not. Review:Exiled by J.R. Wagner

4 stars Exiled is a about a power fight, prophecy, magic and the boy it all falls around. This story jumps all around in time and place. I listened to it on my kindle and sometimes got lost because I did not realized it had jumped again. So I recommend just read it, don't listen to it. The story starts in 1989 in South America during a hearing. James Lochlan Stuart IV is on trial for murder. He is found guilty and sent to the Never. No one comes back from thier. James wakes up and has none of his powers and is in a strange and dangerous place. The 3 chapeter takes place in December 1894 England. the last chapter takes place in June 1626, Ireland. Akil Karanis wants to find the person who the prophecy says will save their people. For many years the ones who do not believe in magic kill those who do. While thier laws prohibt fighting back. The prophecy says the fourth of the name with strong magic will save them. James the third is told about it and shown the world of magic and tells him his son will be the one it speaks of. So James third learns magic so he can teach and protect his son. Anyone can learn magic if they believe in it. They can use this powder to go to anyland that they have been before. You can transport to a place you dont know. This tale is good but I hate when you finsh a book and the story is not done and you have to wait for it. James when he gets to the never he meets the people that have been banished to thier and when they hear his name recognized him as the one who can save them. No one can drink standing water without dying. They can't travel across the ocean it spits them back out or they drown. There are a lot of different creatures and dangerous plant life. But they believe James can change that. In fact they build a small boat and have him sail across the bay and he survives and give the people hope. So they build a bigger boat so a group and can try and gather the things they will need to leave. Thier is so many unanswered questions that I want answered. Oh well I will have to wait for the next book. I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley. 05/05/2012 PUB Greenleaf Book Group

Review:Always in My Heart by Kayla Perrin

4 STARS You never know what a person is feeling or why they do something without asking and being honest yourself. I liked Always in My Heart the first book about 3 sisters who have been away from each other over 8 years ago. A lot of the Hart Sister's problems are thier mom dropped them at her sister's and told them she would be back soon. So far they have not heard from her since she abandon them. Callie Hart has just arrived to her Aunt's funeral she has not been back for over 8 years, She only saw her Aunt & Uncle when they came to visit her in Florida. Now it was too late see the women who raised her and her sisters. She has not seen her sisters either. Callie was the oldest and when her sisters were feuding she was in the middle and they were making her choose. At the time she was having problems with her boyfriend and she was pregnant and did not tell anyone for awhile. This past week Callie and her son were in a car wreck after being forced off the road. Callie knew the time to tell her son's Kwame father about his son. Detective Nigel Williams was surprised when his old girl friend appeared on his door step. He had loved Callie and was hurt when she ran away. He did not want to let her back into his life but finally invited her into say her piece. Never expecting she would tell him that he was a father of a nine year old boy. Nigel wanted to get to know his son. Callie is glad that Nigel and Kwame can start building a relationship and accepting each other. Nigel wanted to be a good father but he was so hurt and mad that she kept his son away for 9 years. Thier are a lot of drama going on with Callie reconnecting with everyone. Her sisters and thier fight. Her Aunt's death and finding out thier mom might have left them for a good reason. Thier are a few sex scenes in the book that I skipped over. Did enjoy the book and can not wait for the third sisters story and hopefully they can learn more about thier mom. Review: Surrender my Heart by Kayla Perrin

4 STARS This is the second book of three about the Hart sisters. But I read it first before I realize that. So I know what I will read next. The story line of what happened to thier mother has been in the first two books and I bet it will continue in the last book. It was not the main focus of the book. Natalie Hart is the youngest of the three sisters. They have not talked to each other for years but I guess in the first they came together for thier Aunt's funeral that had raised them after thier mom left them. Now Natalie gets a surprise from her husband that they are now divorced. She is shocked they seperated only two months ago and this was the first she knew he wanted a divorce. He was a professional basketball player and had an affair with her bestfriend. Now he divorced her and proposed to fiance that same day it was all over the media. While out shopping as therapy she saw a reporter outside a store talking to someone good looking and found out he was a professional football player. A little while later trying to avoid the same reporter she bumped into him Michael Jones. Michael did not mind her running into him and started to flirt with her but she brushed him off. Noway she wanted to get involved with another athlete. Later they were both asked to help out on a chairity event and Michael kept asking her out every time they met. Natalie has a hard time not comparing him to her husband and quite a few times jumped to judgement against him. Michael had never been so attracted and worked so hard for someone attemtion. He admits he was a player but he was single but he had changed after his mom was in a bad accident. He wants to be thier for Natalie if she will let him. I can see why Natalie was having a hard time getting over a marriage in just two months would be hard. Especially with all the other factors going on in her life. No wonder she did not want to get involved with anyone let alone a athlete. Thier was a couple of love scenes that I skipped over. Thier was a lot of the book that was fairy tale romance, plus the mystery of her mother and why had their never been any other family besides her Aunt & Uncle. It kept my attention from the start. It is a quick read. Can't wait to read the first book in the series and the third one comes out in June sometime. Murder takes time by Giacomo Giammatteo

4 STARS BUT ONLY READ 20% because of a lot of bad language, sex scenes & violence. Okay without all the swearing in it I would have finshed the book. I was getting more uncomfortable as I was listening to the book on my Kindle. I decided that finshing a book that was bugging me more & more was stupid and I love books had plenty more to read. I love the writing, the characters, storylines. It was drawing me into the stories. It jumped from now to the past trying to figure out what path brought them to this point. The cop was trying to figure out who the murder was and what the clues left for him personly meant. Like I say if you don't mind the swearing its a really good story.
