This is the seventh book of the series but the first one I have read.  I felt it was okay as a stand alone book but I really wish I had read the other books first.  The characters were all well developed, they had a lot of past together, that were mentioned. Lots of characters that you may have met in earlier stories. (I admit I am wanting to read for myself to find out the full story)

Jennifer Marsh is the main character. She is a mystery writer that has not been published except for her true crime books. She likes to follow murders. Her boy friend is Sam. Jennifer takes a job to write at a tabloid newspaper to be undercover to find out why one of the reporters was murdered.

Sam Culpepper is a journalist. He won't propose to Jennifer because he knows how she feels about marriage, but he has let her know he will say yes when she does. She can't email, text or write it either but clearly be asked.

Jennifer finally feels ready and has the evening all planned but it does not go at all like she thinks it will go.

Jennifer's friends make her have a wedding with lots of details. She is more into solving a murder than planning a wedding.  Her friends decide to help her find out more without being asked.

Lots of mysteries, murders and kidnapping to keep Jennifer and Sam occupied. It is also a clean read.
I hope Jennifer keeps her new job for awhile she does a good job at it.

I want to read the first six books in this series if I can find the time. With all my books I agreed to read pile getting bigger never smaller.

I loved the writer group and enjoyed seeing what one might look like. How they were all friends supporting each other.

My review: Keeping Kate by Lauren Winder Farnsworth

This is a modern retelling of Jane Eyre with a L.D.S. spin on it.  There is not much religion or preaching in it but does talk some about it.  I can not remember Jane Eyre well from decades ago so can't if is well done.  I can say that I shared some tears along the way with Kate.

There is lots of drama in Kate's life both in the past and modern day troubles.  I like Kate and she seems real to me.  I like how much she cared for those around her.  Kate has been a orphan since she was 8.  She has a teaching degree but takes a job as a nannie to Addie.

Addie is spoiled with things but not love.  She lives on a ranch and sees her father about twice a year. Her mother is dead.  She is cute.

Tyler is 12 years older than Kate.  He is rich and works in New York.  He does not treat Addie good. Does give her everything but love and attention.

There are a few times when I want to shake Tyler and a few other characters for not taking care of the kids in there care.

There are a bunch of love triangles in this story.  That make a few choose between two good choices or not choosing.  Have to decide what is important to them.  You want them to be happy but you can understand what there choices have to be.

This will get you involved with the characters and the story.  It is a good clean romance.

The setting is from a Utah ranch, Boston or New York in modern day.

My Review: Big Mojo by Jack Getze  (Austin Car Mystery #3)

I like Austin Carr more and more.  He is smart, gets into so much trouble, lots of drama, action and you are not sure who is good or bad until the end. Austin Carr has a lot of enemies, but he also has some good friends, and enemies.

 

His partner Mr. Vic Bonacellis calls him into his office and introduces him to a beautiful women who has insider information.  They want him to buy stocks with the information and think they can get away with it.  Austin does think about it for a moment but he is not willing to risk going to jail and risking his future with his kids.

 

Vic hates Austin especially after he left him holding a mess of trouble last year and he ended up now as major partner of the firm. He wants his mom to have him killed.

 

Mama Bones Bonacelli likes Austin but is willing to mess with him. She decides to put a spell on him.  Mama is part of the local mob.  The spell goes wrong if it works.

 

You never can guess where this story goes it has so many twists and turns. Austin is beat up a couple of times, he is being accused of insider trading, trouble with his daughter, he is falling in love and is best friend at a wedding.  It has a little bit of everything in this story. It is a book that is not boring at all.

 

The setting is the Jersey Shore.

My review: One Garish Ghost & Blueberry Peach Jam by Jennifer Fischetto

There are some funny moments in this story for sure. Lots of characters, I like Gianna Mancini, would not mind seeing some more of her in the future. Disappointed in some of the male figures in the book. I really want to say who and why but that might be too much.
The ghosts are fun and likeable. Keeps you guessing who the murder is and why they killed cupcake.

Gianna Mancini has moved back home. She has lived with a boyfriend for almost a year in another state. Then they fought and she moved out. Now she is going to work for the family deli and live upstairs in the apartment. While she is moving in she notices a ghost. She can see and talk to them since she was a child.

Gianna family are funny. I like them. Her older sister Izzie is having issues with her husband. Enzo her brother is a cop and wants to be a detective. They are close. Her mother collects interesting things.

Gianna wants to help the ghost in her apartment murder be solved and she does some interesting things to check out Cupcake's work.

Gianna's romance I am not sure what I want her to do about it but I would like to see what happens next with them.

One scene I think is funny is almost to the end. I want to join Izzie and Gianna laughing so much they sit on the lawn.
I want to read the next book in the series and see what happens next to Gianna.

My review: Me Tarzan You Jane by Camelia Miron Skiba

This has drama, romance, humor and characters that I want to keep reading about.  It is easy to fall into the story and not want to put it down.

My favorite part of the story is their trip to France. How they draw so close and learn to be there for each other.

I like the characters. Especially Ella and her mother Jane.
 Jane is a widow who never plans on remarrying.  She is very shy. Only slept with her husband.   She is a unpublished writer.
Ella is a cute 4 year old.  I really like the scenes with her and Lucas. She brings smiles to me when I read actions.
Lucas Oliver is a famous cover model. He is a playboy who parties at first glance.

My least part of the book is when they become lovers.  Jane is going against what she thinks is right and does not want to be seen in public with Lucas.

I loved the ending  chapters. It was perfect for the characters.

Corky let out a screech from the family room bringing her back to the present. He was tented underneath the overturned rocking chair watching the television set from the corner of his eye. A program was just ending and he was transfixed by the credits that rolled by. Lorraine knew better than to interrupt the credits—for some reason Corky loved to see them although he paid little attention to the programs themselves. At last they ended and a commercial replaced them. Corky wiggled out from beneath the chair, righted it, sat down, and began to rock.

“Come on, big guy, let’s get you into the tub.”

He ignored her and continued to rock back and forth.
Lorraine took Cork’s hand in hers. “Bath time,” his mother said.

He rocked a few more times then launched himself from the chair and ran squealing down the hall to the bathroom with his mother following behind. She turned on the water and began to help Corky out of his clothes. He’d chewed a hole through the top of his blood-soaked shirt and somehow during the day had managed to get his pants on backwards. As soon as Lorraine started pulling his shirt off, Cork squirmed like an eel and pulled it over his head. When he was younger they had to watch him like a hawk or he pulled off all his clothes and ran naked out of the house. At least that hadn’t happened for a few years. He peeled off his shoes, sank to the floor and stuck his feet in the air. Lorraine massaged them while the tub filled. He loved to have his feet rubbed.

When she reached past him and turned off the water, Corky leapt to his feet, peeled off his pants and his underwear, and jumped into the tub. Water splashed everywhere as he let out a satisfied moan. He placed his feet against the end of the tub and pushed himself back and forth, sending waves onto the floor. Without even thinking about it Lorraine pulled the extra towels she kept in the linen cabinet and dropped them next to the tub. It was standard operating procedure with Cork’s baths.

She left Corky soaking in the water, picked up his clothes, and dropped them into the washing machine. “I don’t know if the blood will come out,” she shuddered.

My review: The Cottage Park Puzzle by Richard M. Siddoway

 The Cottage Park Puzzle makes you feel involved with the characters.  I kept putting myself as the mom of the different boys and think what would I do or react if that was my son.  Who knows what we would do or say.

Two boys are found at school unconscious having been beaten by a third boy covered in blood. The fourth boy Scott said he found Corky with the baseball bat hitting the boys.

Corky does not talk. He is autistic. Has not shown violence before.  Corky goes to special needs at Cottage Park JuniorSenior High School. His parents are sick with the idea he hurt two kids. They worry over the boys and pray for them.

The Principal Karen Porter wants to expel Corky. Does not think he is safe to be around the other children.

No one really knows what happen to set Corky off. No one saw anything. Scott and then Tony Smutz the assistant principal arrived and called 911.

Everyone is in a rush to judge and want immediate action. The town takes sides. Lots of anger , worry over the two boys. Their moms are angry. One is threatening lawsuits. The police sent Corky home with his mother Lorraine because of his special needs.

Most of the book is fast paced and happens in a weeks time. We see this happening more and more as people rush to judge and punish before all the facts have a chance to come out.

What should happen to a boy that does not understand like everyone else? Through his teachers Corky has made leap and bounds progress. He has become potty trained, not to rush off alone things other children learn as toddlers. But Corky is now 6ft 200lbs. He does not communicate. Should he be locked up behind bars? Should his parents be punished?

I don't know the answer what should a dangerous person who does not understand have happen to him.

I liked the story, the characters, how some of the characters forgave others that did them wrong.  All the parents had to forgive someone and be forgiven for their actions. What they all said in the heat of the moments. I need to learn this lesson of forgiveness and ask more to be forgiven.

My review: Beneath by H.B. Moore

Beneath is a short novel that gives you a look about Omar Zagouri and Chalice Stratford.  It leaves you wanting to know more about Omar.

Chalice Stratford just started at the museum when the museum was robbed. Chalice is a woman with secrets. She has a past that I want to know more about to.

I wish this was a longer story, but it grabs your attention.  It has mystery, drama and characters that I like.

Finding Sheba is another story about Omar Zagouri. I went back after reading this to rereading Finding Sheba because I want more.

The setting is Middle East.
