The Secret Sister by Brenda Novak (Fairham Island #1)

Did she once have a sister? Has her mother lied all these years? Why?

After a painful divorce, Maisey Lazarow returns to Fairham, the small island off the North Carolina coast where she grew up. She goes there to heal—and to help her brother, Keith, a deeply troubled man who's asked her to come home. But she refuses to stay in the family house. The last person she wants to see is the wealthy, controlling mother she escaped years ago.

Instead, she finds herself living next door to someone else she'd prefer to avoid—Rafe Romero, the wild, reckless boy to whom she lost her virginity at sixteen. He's back on the island, and to her surprise, he's raising a young daughter alone. Maisey's still attracted to him, but her heart's too broken to risk…

Then something even more disturbing happens. She discovers a box of photographs that evoke distant memories of a little girl, a child Keith remembers, too. Maisey believes the girl must've been their sister, but their mother claims there was no sister.

Maisey's convinced that child existed. So where is she now?
My review:  The Secret Sister by Brenda Novak  (Fairham Island #1)
4 STARS
I liked The Secret Sister.  It had romance, drama, mystery and characters that I wanted things to work out for.  It did have a few love scenes that I could do without.  It set up for a new series called Fairham Island.
Maisey Lazarow is the main character.  Her last couple of years as been really hard on her.  Maisey whole world was shaken up.  Her brother called her for help so she moved back from New York to Fairham Island, North Carolina for him.
Maisey would rather live in a cottage with damage then move back home with her mother. Her mother wants things always her way or else.
Rafe Romero is the person putting the cottages right.  He is next door living in a cottage.  Rafe has a little girl. Rafe was also the boy who was a one night stand with Maisey when she was a teenager.
Rafe is still attracted to her and Maisey to him.  Maisey is not in any condition to fall in love again but they can't stay away from each other.
While Rafe was working on another cottage he found a box of pictures hidden in a wall.  He gave them to Maisey thinking they were pictures of her and her family.  The pictures really shook her up and her family.  Because she was not the girl in the pictures.
The mystery I did guess what did happen.  But not everything.  Lots of drama that I did not want to put down till finished.
I would read another book in the Fairham Island series.
I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Harlequin.  In return I agreed to give a honest review of The Secret Sister.
