Chasing Hope by Kathryn Cushman

A Personal Drama of Shattered Dreams and Second Chances

A talented runner fully committed to Olympic dreams, Sabrina Rice’s future was shattered by a devastating diagnosis. One forfeited scholarship and several years later, she has new goals and dreams that have nothing to do with running–something that’s become far too painful to think on.
Until the day she sees Brandy Philip running across the community college campus, easily outpacing security. Sabrina immediately recognizes world-class speed, and it’s all the more painful that it belongs to a teenage graffiti artist. When a chance encounter brings the two young women together, Sabrina becomes Brandy’s best hope for staying out of juvenile hall. Soon, Sabrina begins to feel an uncomfortable nudge that her new life is just about to be toppled…that God may be calling her to minister to this talented but troubled girl.

MY REVIEW; Chasing Hope by Kathryn Cushman

5 STARS

I decided to give 5 Stars because I was rooting for the characters, I shed some tears, made think about things differently. Even makes me want to go see Chariots of Fire a movie that I have not seen in decades. It was entertaining and inspiring.

This had a lot of strong women as the characters. Sabrina is the main character who saw the movie Chariots of fire with her mom and decided she wanted to be like Eric Liddell. She was going to be runner and win gold than be a missionary. She started that next day running with her mother. Till road blocks got in her way.

Brandy runs from cops. She gets into a lot of trouble. Now she lives with her grandmother. The grandmother asks Sabrina if she will get help for Brandy to join the running team at her school. But the judge wants her to more involved than two days a week. So Sabrina says she can only do it at 5:30 am.
Their is a guy at collage trying to date Sabrina. She is keeping secrets from him. She just does not want to tell her story. Brandy also wants to know Sabrina story and decides to spy on her to find out what it is.
Their are a lot of road blocks for both Brandy and Sabrina. I really liked their characters. They both have weakness and talents. You are rooting for them and can see the races. You can see what they do with their trials.
Sabrina has good attitude mostly but has days when she questions why God had given her so many trials. I liked that one of the things that helps her get through some of her trials is her own journal where she wrote a talk.
I am not a runner but had to learn to walk again and still have some health issues. It is hard to be positive all the time. This was inspiring to me to read. Leaves me smiling when I think of Chasing Hope.
Talks about missionary work and about Moses leading children of Israel across the red sea. About Gods plan. It is a small part of the story but is not preaching but searching whys.
Good pacing in the story. Keeps you wanting to know what happens next.
I was given this ebook and asked to write a honest review and be part of its book tour.
