My review: Knock On Wood by Linda O. Johnston

This is the second book of the Superstition mystery series.   The whole town is into superstition, but a lot are really not believers so they say.  Though they knock on wood, don't want to break a mirror.  It is surprising how many of them I do without thinking about them.  There are so many that I have not heard of. Every business has superstitions about them in this tourist town.

Rory Chasen is the main character.  She is now the manager of Lucky Dog Boutique in Destiny, California.  She is not in a relationship she says, but she eats out a lot with the Sheriff, calls him and is always kissing him.

Gemma Grayfield, a librarian who is Rory's good friend comes to visit her a day earlier.  Her old boyfriend Frank Shorester is following her determined to bring her back. Gemma first night in town meets two other men that are interested in her.  They get her to run the bookstore in town.

Rory out walking her dog ends up finding another dead body.  This time the trail leads back to Gemma.  Rory is determined to help her friend.

This is a pretty clean book. Full of drama, superstitions, gossip and characters that you like and some twists in it that you don't think about..  I was in the dark about who the real murder was.

I would love to read another book in the series.

Somehow, I always knew the people I saw hovering around looking aimless were ghosts, and it never really bothered me. Sometimes I talked to them when I was little. They never talked back. Sometimes they would play with me, though. My mom used to tell people what a good baby I was, how I never cried or fussed. She thought she had just lucked out with an easy first kid. Really, I always had someone standing over my crib smiling at me or making silly faces. Ghosts really seem to like being around babies for some reason.

It wasn’t until I got a little older that I realized some of my ghostly friends were hanging around for a reason. A few of them were just lonely and either weren’t ready to move on or didn’t know how. I haven’t got a clue about how to send them on their way, so I figure the least I can do is keep them company.

Others, they had messages they wanted to pass on. At first, I didn’t know how to do that without getting into trouble. My mom refused to make phone calls or send my letters to who she deemed were random strangers. I found ways to get the letters in the mail, at least, without her knowing, but it wasn’t easy and they occasionally got sent back to us when the address proved inaccurate. Mom wasn’t happy when she found one and realized what I’d been doing.

Holden was the one who came up with the idea for the webshow. It made things a lot easier since my parents think it’s just a funny hoax we like to pull, and it gives us a hobby and keeps me out of trouble for the most part. That’s the biggest reason they let me do it. As I got older and more capable, more able to help the ghosts, they became more insistent. That’s when things got really bad.

Up until that point, I didn’t know the ghosts could affect my dreams, and not in a good way. The nightmares got progressively worse, morphing into full on night terrors. The headaches followed, though I’m still not sure if the ghosts were trying to talk to me, or just doing whatever they could to get my attention. Sometimes, their presence would become so oppressive as they tried to communicate that I would completely zone out… which sent my grades into the toilet and my behavior into the realm of unmanageable. The worst by far is when they try to touch me.

My review: The Ghost Host by DelSheree Gladden

I did not want to put the book down. I really like the characters.  Especially the teens. It is full of drama, relationships, ghosts, & mystery.  There is one short love scene.

 Echo Simmons is 18 year old senior.  Everyone thinks she is crazy except her only two friends.  She sees ghosts.  Sometimes they are friendly and other times scary.  She hosts her own web show on YouTube.  She interviews Ghosts and gets their messages out there if they follow her rules.

Holden is Echo's friends.  He makes the rules to keep her safer.  Holden's cousin Zara is the other good friend.  They help film the show and together they have made money and helped a lot of ghosts.

Echo's parents don't believe her and make her go to doctor once a week.

Then one day a ghost named Madeline's message to her great grandson changes things.  Echo's answers when Malachi contacts her.  They are drawn to each other.

Then the FBI come to her house and starts asking questions about Madeline and what she had to say about the cold war when she was a spy.

The setting is mainly California and Georgia.

The story is compelling and you want to find out what was left for Malachi and why he is scared to go there.  What do the FBI really want from Echo.

I want more of these characters.  Like to see what happens next in their lives.

This is the first book that I have read from DelSheree Gladden but I would read more of her work based on The Ghost Host.

My review: Death on the Prairie by Kathleen Ernst

Either this book is set in a earlier times or is a reprint.  I noticed when Chole talks about gas going over a dollar.  Plus they are always on  pay phones no mention of cell phones.

Chole Ellefson is the main character.   She is asked to find out about a quilt of her parents neighbor has inherited.  To also decide where the quilt should go after her death.  It is supposed to be Laura Ingails family.

Chole is supposed to give a talk at one of the stops of a tour talking about Laura.  Chole and her sister loved the books growing up.  So Chole invites her sister Kari to go on tour with her. Kari is facing some family problems of her own and jumps at the chance.

Chole's boyfriend Roelke is back at home deciding some big questions himself which could make a difference to Chole.  He is a policeman.

Boy is there a lot I did not know about Laura Ingails Wilder and her books.  This 
sixth book in the Chole Ellefson mystery takes place on a tour following the different sites Laura Ingails lived.

There is lots of problems surrounding the tour.  deaths, thefts, abuse something happens at each stop.

This is the first book that I have read of Kathleen Ernst.  I would not mind reading more of her work.  I also feel like going back and rereading Little House on the Prairie.

My review: Murder at Redwood Cove by Janet Finsilver

I would love to come visit Redwood Cove Bed and Breakfast.  accept for the murders it sounds charming.  I like all the characters.  They care about each other and for doing whats right. The Silver Sentinels are great.

Kelly Jackson has been flown into manage the Bed and Breakfast after the manager died.  Some don't think Bob Phillips death was a accident.  That he knew the cliffs and would not have fallen.  Kelly starts to follow Bob's path the day he died.

Bob belonged to the Silver Sentinels.  It is a group of retired friends that protect the areas, and things.  They do what they can and meet at Redwood cove for there meetings.  I would love to find out more about them in the future.

There is a lot of drama, danger, mystery and chocolate.  The B& B is also getting ready to host a Taste o Chocolate and Wine Festival.  So lots of yummy deserts.

The setting is Northern California coast area.

I would love to read the next book in the series.  I enjoyed reading Murder at Redwood Cove.

My review:  Scrapbook of the Dead by Mollie Cox Bryan  (A Cumberland Creek Mystery #5)

This is book 5 of A Cumberland Creek Mystery but the first one I have read.  It can stand alone, but I have already got the first book in the series now to read.  The characters are well rounded and have a history you can tell.  There are a bunch of them and at times I wish I had written notes so I was not confused.

The group of scrapbookers get together and scrapbook once a week.  Sounds like it would be fun.  There are some tips in back of the book too.  They also have good food.

They talk about food a lot with one member having her own bakery.  Plus the one murder happened at a Pie shop.

One of the scrapbookers Randy works at Pamela’s Pie Palace.  He finds a dead body in the freezer.
Reporter Annie Chamovitz covers the story it will be her last story.  She also is covering the murder the next day.  The two were sisters from Mexico.

Annie is also a member of the scrapbook club.  With these two murders she is learning more about the area she is living in.  That there is a group of foreigners in town and also gangs.
The mystery is good. plenty of drama, clean read and lots of questions.

The death of these two young women matter to them and they want to find out more about them.  If they have any family that can contact.

I would like to read more books in this series .  In fact I am going to.  I look forward to reading more of these cozy murders.

My review: A Beeline to Murder by Meera Lester (Henny Penny Farmette Mystery )

This is a new series.  It is a cozy murder mystery. Lots of drama, romance, action and suspects.  Has humor, recipes, help farming hints, lots of food and picking the wine to go with it.  Too me I would rather have the recipes and extra information in the back of the book instead of in the end of chapter it was mentioned in.

 Abigail Mackenzie  used to be a cop before a injury that ended her career.  Now she is raising chickens, harvesting honey on a small farm.  She is a hard worker trying to make her farm going.
She does some investigating on the side for the DA.

Abigail is taking her lavender honey to local chef Jean-Louis Bonheur.  When she gets there things are burning, back door was open and she she finds him dead. Lots of questions are asked by the scene.

Abigail is asked by Jean-Louis's brother Philippe Bonheur to keep investigating after police close the case fast saying it was sucide.  Philippe speaks French and is handsome.  He wants to find his brother's killer.

I like all the information about the honey and different blossoms made the honey change color and flavor. Lots of bee information made the story fleshed out.

Part of the mystery I figured out early but not all of the twists.

I would like to see more books in this series and see where the characters go to next.

My review: Tangled Pursuit (Delos #2) by Lindsay McKenna

This is book 2 of the Delos series.  It is set in Kabul, Afghanistan region.  This is mostly a military romance book.  There is plenty of drama, love scenes, action.

I love  Marine sniper Captain Talia Culver and her family.  I love the scenes they have together, the love, the gifts and how they reach out and help others.  Would have loved to see more of them.

Talia Culver even though she is a Captain still goes out on missions.  She lost one boyfriend to the war and is not looking to get involved with another person in the military.  She is oldest of three children.

Her father is US Air Force General Robert Culver.  Her Uncles own the two biggest shipping business and are billionaires.  Her mother runs Delos charities  around the world.  Because of attacks on one of the charities they are building their own security agency Artemis Security to protect them.  Talia will be the CEO of it when she resigns her commission.
