Life holds no surprises for Devon Murphy. Her life consists of keeping tabs on her aging Irish father, working part time at a coffee shop, and building her online graphics design business. Devon’s only tricky situation is a shallow relationship with the pampered and affluent Michael Turner, who sees her as just another woman to conquer.

Following his father’s death, Brandon’s only goal is to expand the family business and live life on his own terms. That is, until he walks into the coffee shop one snowy evening and meets the enchanting, red-haired barista behind the counter. But can Devon and Brandon’s attraction for each other be strong enough to help erase their deepest disappointments and renew their faith in God?

Excerpt:

Brandon looked over at her neutral expression. Whatever kind of relationship she had with Michael Turner didn’t seem to be making her happy. At that moment, all he wanted to do was to make her forget all about the jerk.

As if sensing him watching her, Devon turned her head enough to make eye contact with him. The faint, milky glow from the streetlight showed enough of her features for him to see a soft blush warm her cheeks. Under her dark lashes, he watched her sea green eyes glint invitingly as her soft lips turned up at the corners. In that moment, his resolve to keep the date on a friendly level came crashing down.

Toured to Death by Hy Conrad

Description

“Fast-paced, entertaining, and a mystery-lover’s treat.” —John Clement, co-author of the Dixie Hemingway series
Book a ticket with this all-new mystery series featuring Amy and Fanny Abel, a spunky mother-and-daughter duo of travel agents who find their mystery tour becoming all too real…

While Fanny takes care of the business end of Amy’s Travel in New York City, Amy is traipsing around Monte Carlo, managing their first mystery-themed excursion, a road rally in which guests compete to solve a fictional murder along the way. Amy still has reservations about partnering up with her mother. But both women, having lost the men in their lives, need a fresh beginning.

The trip starts off without a hitch. Clues quickly mount, the competition is lively, and just when the suspense is peaking, the writer they hired to script their made-up mystery is found murdered in his New York apartment. Suddenly, on top of running a new venture together, mother and daughter must solve a real-life case of foul play, while trying not to drive each other bonkers. But Amy and Fanny are ready, willing, and Abel to track down a clever killer with some serious emotional baggage, one who will go to any lengths to keep dark secrets from seeing the light of day…

My review: Toured to Death by Hy Conrad

4 stars

The setting is something that sounds cool to me a Mystery tour set in trip to Europe.  The owners are mother and daughter. Fanny and Amy.  Amy is leading the tour. Amy is shy and does not like limelight.  Fanny is more outgoing and daring.

The murder mystery they find out is based on  a real case.  The writer after he is paid is murdered back in New York.  There is someone following the tour that works for the writer. Amy has no idea who that is.  Also no one on the tour knows who the murder is on the tour.  Amy gets the clues only a day ahead and instructions on where to place the  clues.

Tour is going good until it starts going wrong. One of the ladies on the tour is murdered.  The others of the group don't believe that the person the Italy police arrested is the murder.  They think the three different murder cases are related. From San Francisco 4 years ago, New York and Italy.

I would read more of this series.  It tied up the cases in a good way. I guessed some of it but not all of it. The mystery was good. I liked the characters. It was also clean read.

I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Kensington Books.  In return I agreed to give a honest review of Toured to Death.

My review: Echo Lake by Carla Neggers (Swift River Valley #4)

4 STARS

It was good to back to Swift River Valley. The characters are interesting, and I want to see more of them. Cute puppy too. The mystery was okay. Part of it I guessed early. The setting was small town in winter. Good drama and romance.

Heather Sloan is in charge of renovation of 1912 stately country home. She is the youngest child with six older brothers.

Brody Hancock he works as a Diplomatic Security Service agent. He has come back to his home town of Knights Bridge to look into things for Vic Scarlatti problems. He is on leave after something about a mission went bad.

Vic Scarlatti just retired from working the past 40 years in government. He was a Ambassador. He has some unexpected things happening to him.

Lots of wine tasting, about building wine cellar. Which I don't drink and don't plan to so that part was not too interesting for me. I have no way of judging that part of the story.

Has some snappy dialog. Great descriptions of scenery.

I enjoy Swift River Valley and would come back to visit there again.

I was given this ebook from Net Galley and Harlequin. In return I agreed to give honest review of Echo Lake.

This is a novella with familiar characters from Breaking Point and Never Surrender.  We get to see a little slice of their lives since there books. Bay and Gabe Griffin now have twins.
I love that with ebooks authors can do that when they want to.  And we don't have to wait till we get to a bookstore to order it.
Gabe gets a phone call about his best friend Mike who is still a Navy Seal serving in Afghan that he is MIA which his story is told in Taking Fire.  Which I have already read but realized that I have not read Never Surrender.
Bay is feeding her babies and thinking about her past serving in Afghan and being a prisoner and life right now. There is some sad times, some sweet moments and some funny scenes. Especially the sheep scenes.
The setting is October at their cabin on Black Mountain where they live in a cabin. It is where Bay grew up.  Her mother and sister live in a separate cabin on the farm.
If you have wondered about Bay and Gabe life now that they are home you will want to pick up Zone of Fire.

Taking Fire is a action packed, war romance rolled  into one book.  There is so much drama you don't want to put the book down. Strong characters who you come to care about.

Khat is such a strong brave caring woman.  Khat saves lives and she also can take lives. She has lots of secrets. She was born in the US but her father is from Afghan.

Michael Tarik is a Navy Seal.  While out with his unit he is separated and wounded.  Khat sees that they are walking into a trap and as a sniper starts taking out the Taliban soldiers.  Michael is unconscious.  Khat is able to get him to her camp in a cave and gives him first aid.

Khat does so much to help the Afghan villagers in her area.  She gives them clinics.  It makes you realize how much as a American we take for granted.  Simple doctor visits, medicines, water.  I learned a lot. Never picture red heads as a Afghan.  In one scene Mike gives a villager $400 and they mention that it could feed the village for a year on that amount.

The setting for Taking Fire is Afghan.  Mostly in the mountain area.

    4 STARS

This is a fantasy, action, YA, children book and a book that keeps your attention till the end.  It is also a clean read.  I liked reading about Jack and his friends.

There is a Prophesy that has been around since the beginning.  About a child who will be born without scales that will either destroy or save the world.  That will work with the assassin. Both the forces of good and bad want the child.  No one really knows exactly what the prophesy means.

The characters are ones that I like or ones that are scary and creepy.  Jack is the main character. He is eleven years old.  He is a child of promise.  He can save the world or destroy it.  He has some powers he does not know about let alone can control.

There is a great twist that only a few know about. Now it comes to light.  The evil forces come to Jack's village to get him. Creatures don't care who they kill to find Jack.

Jack does not understand why he is special or what is going on.
The setting is in Ireland, a small village. Travel is by horse or wagon.

I was not ready for this story to be over and can't wait till the next book comes out.  I hope the writers write fast.

    4 STARS

This is a good suspense action mystery that keeps you trying to figure out what is going on till the end.  Full of drama, mystery and characters I like but don't for sure who to trust.

Jace Vega has got a new job working for Omnibus.  Her father wants her to work for them.  Jace loves to run.  One day while running she finds a tablet she picks it up and tries to find the owner.
The tablet is message from the future. It seams to warn about the future.

Jace sees her with Corey in the future so when she runs across him at a park she tells him about the tablet and he helps her to figure out what it is from.  Jace sees a picture of herself with Damien the owner of Omnibus son and a boss.

Corey lived in the same apartment complex with Jace while they both were at college together.
Damien and his family lived in the same town as Corey when they were around 5. There moms were friends. There dads served together in military.  Jace really does not remember much of that year.

Jace and Corey want to stop the future they see in the tablet from coming true, but they first need to figure out what the tablet is showing them.

I admit at times I was lost in the story.  I could feel her confusion about what was going on.

    Synopsis
**Now in development for a TV movie!**
For Franki Amato, life in New Orleans is anything but “The Big Easy.” When she met handsome bank executive Bradley Hartmann, she knew she’d finally found a man she could trust. But she can’t say the same for his sexy new secretary, who is about as trustworthy as Mata Hari and every bit as seductive. Meanwhile, Franki’s best friend and employer, Veronica Maggio, has named her the lead investigator in the murder of a gorgeous cosmetics CEO who was found lying dead in the master bedroom of a historic plantation home.
Now the pressure is on Franki to figure out what a bottle of pink lip gloss and the legend of a pink diamond have to do with the bizarre killing. The problem is that the plantation is notorious for being haunted, and Franki is less than enthusiastic about the prospect of meeting a ghost. Adding to her stress, her Sicilian grandma is up to her usual meddling antics—this time planning Franki’s engagement to Bradley before he’s even considered popping the question. As Bradley grows distant and plantation employees begin dropping like Southern belles during a sweltering summer, Franki turns to a psychic with a phobia of ghosts to solve the mysterious murders and her own relationship fears.

My review: Prosecco pink by Traci Andrighetti

    4 STARS

Franki Amato is back in her second book. Franki is a P.I. working in New Orleans for her friend Veronica Maggio.  She is smart, jealous, & has a funny family. Unless you have one like hers.
    Full of interesting characters.

Bradley Hartmann has been dating Franki.  He is a bank executive. He is always working late especially on days they have dates planned.  His new assistant is a beautiful sexy woman who is trying to steal him away.

physic has a message from a ghost for her, Franki is asked to solve a murder, There is a missing pink diamond, Land lady is a stripper. Her Sicilian grandma is trying to plan her engagement party( She is not engaged) behind her back. Her boss is behaving different. It all combines to be a fun light hearted murder mystery.

It is full of troubles for Franki. Lots of drama ,action and murder in this book. Also lots of laughter.

The setting for this book is New Orleans. also a lot is set in a old plantation with ghosts.

I was given Prosecco Pink to read so I could give a honest review of it and be part of it's blog tour.

I was given a PDF file so I could review it.  That made it hard for me to write the answers in the puzzles. They were different levels of difficulty.  Some were easy and others I gave up on.
Do want scriptures handy if you don't have them memorized.

There is word search, crossword puzzles, code puzzles and unscramble words.  They were fun to try and figure out. but would be easier if I could write my answers in the puzzles.

These would be fun to use for Family Home Evening. Sunday activity or just for fun.

I like to do these puzzles.  The codes were harder for me to do.

This could be the merger of a lifetime

The holidays are over, but Allison Caldwell can't stop thinking about the kiss she shared with Nathan Garrett under the mistletoe. The dazzlingly attractive playboy she's secretly crushed on for years isn't just off-limits because he's out of her league; the heir apparent to the Garrett furniture empire is about to be crowned CFO—and the single mother's new boss!

One night changed everything for Nathan. And now his executive assistant is strictly hands-off despite their intense physical attraction. Besides, Allison has a son, and Nathan's no family man. I liked the characters. the pace of the story, cute son,. I really enjoyed the scene where Nathan took her home to meet his parents with no warning.

Part I don't care for. The sex scenes. With the idea of just one night together won't hurt anyone.
Dylan's father putting him last.  I know it's hard on kids when promises are broken time after time. But it added to the story.

Allison is a single mother to Dylan. Allison's boss is retiring.  Her new boss she had slept with one business trip.

Nathan is a playboy. He does not do serious relationships. He is the new CEO of the company.
He wants more than a one night stand with Allison.

Dylan is a shy kid who has a hard time making friends.  He loves racing. He has bad asthma.

It was a nice romance. A fast read. Lots of drama going on.

I was given The Daddy Wish to read by Net Galley and Harlequin so that I could in return give a honest review of it.

    4 STARS

This is a new exciting cozy series.  The mystery was good with some twists.  Clean, good read ,with characters I would like to see more of.  I can see how Angie could come across a lot of bodies in the future.

Angie Curtis lives in Arizona, working for P.I.  She gets a message from her grandmother to come home her mother was finally found.  Her grandmother Charlotte raised her.  Angie's mother disappeared when she was young child. She had left home when she was eighteen.

Angie's Gram had started a business with some friends.  Mainely Needlepoint.  They have not been paid for the past few months. They need to find the Jacques Latimore who was their agent. He owes them thousands of dollars.  Angie volunteers to help find Latimore.  She also plans to look into who killed her mother Jenny.

The pace was pretty good.  Story was easy to keep the charactes straight.

The setting is Haven Harbor,  Maine.  Where they get lots of tourists in the summer.

I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Kensington Publisher and in return agreed to give Twisted Threads a honest review and be part of it's blog tour.
