My review: How Secrets Die by Marta Perry

4 STARS

This is the third book in the Laurel Ridge series.  The suspense, mystery is pretty good. It kept me guessing most of the book.  Lots of drama, action and romance added in.  This book hardly mentions the Amish people that the first two books did.

Kate Beaumont has come to Laurel Ridge, Pennsylvania, a year after her brother died.  She wants to find out what happened to him to turn him back to drugs.  Kate has lost her job and her step-father so has the time to get answers now.

Mac Whiting is the police chief.  He finds Kate on her way to town and wants to know what she is up to.  He wants to find out who is bringing drugs into his town.

With Kate bringing questions up about her brother stirs up trouble for her.  Someone does not like her asking questions.  Mac wants to keep a eye on her and help figure out what is going on.  Plus they have some chemistry  together.

I like Marta Perry' writing style. Her small town settings.  I will read more of her work in the future.

I was given this ebook to read from NetGalley and Harlequin.  In return I agreed to give a honest review of How Secrets Die.

Nice clean romance.  Good plot.

Lauren McCauley's has come home to her fathers ranch to stay for two months before she and her two sisters can sell the ranch.  Lauren already has a buyer for the property.  She plans to use her 1/3 of the money to buy into a accounting firm with a friend.

Vic Moore had a gentlemens agreement to lease the ranch land with option to buy it.  He plans to bring his brother into the business after he was injured and can't rodeo anymore.

Lauren is willing to sell to Vic if he can match her other sellers bid.  Lauren's two sisters are willing to let her decide.

Lauren has been burned by her ex-boyfriend, her late father and ex- boss and plans not to trust men in the future.

Vic is willing to search the ranch for the papers while working the land during the day.  He is drawn to Lauren.

I really like Vic.  He is willing to help Lauren to even show the other buyer around the ranch.

I like reading Carolyne Aarsen's books.

I was given this copy of Trusting the Cowboy to read for free from NetGalley and Harlequin.  In return I agree to give a honest review.

My review: Ambush at Dry Gulch by Joanna Wayne  (Big 'D' Dads: The Daltons)

    4 stars

I liked the story. I wanted more, sorry it was over.  The charity they were getting ready for sounds interesting. Lots of drama, characters interaction together.

Carolina Lambert is a rich Texas widow.  She is good friends with neighbor R.J. Dalton. Likes his whole family except Jake.

Carolina needs a different ranch for her training her volunteers.  It ended up at Jake's ranch.

Jake Dalton has agreed to donate his ranch for a week and did not realize Carolina was in charge.  Jake does not want to visit his dying father.  He thought Carolina was trying to get his father's ranch, but he was wrong.

Jake is a widower living with his teenage daughter and his mother.  He steps up to protect Carolina and her friend.
He is surprised at how attracted to Carolina he is.

    The setting is Texas.

It deals a lot with abuse.

A Royal Engagement : The Young Royals book 1 by Emma Lea

A Royal Engagement (The Young Royals #1)Despite being the second child of the King and Queen of Merveille, Alyssabeth thought that if she kept a low profile she could stay out of the media’s glaring spotlight and live a relatively normal life. That was until her father, the King, and her brother, the Crown Prince, are both killed in a hunting accident.
Her dream of joining the UN is no more and instead she needs to return to the small European country of her birth to pick up where her father and brother left off. Her Harvard degree in International Relations is forfeit and in it’s place she must become Queen, that is if the misogynistic Parliament can see past their prejudices.
Not much has changed in the small country in her four year absence, but there are two noticeable differences. Her brother’s two best friends Will Darkly and Jordan Wicks have grown up into two very intriguing men. Jordan practically sweeps her off her feet from the moment she steps off the plane, but Will’s more reserved, darkly intense interest in her gives her tingles.
Alyssa isn’t sure she is cut out to be Queen, but she knows that she wants to do her father and brother proud, so she is willing to give it her best shot, even if it means going toe to toe with Parliament. And then there is the small matter of her needing to be married in order to fulfil her birthright and take her place as the Head of State.

My review: A Royal Engagement : The Young Royals book 1 by Emma Lea

    4 STARS

A Royal Engagement is a nice clean romantic fast read,  Had drama, intrigue at the palace, danger, and romance.

It opens right to the drama. Alyssabeth was sitting in a class at Harvard,  when her security went in high alert and got her out of class and on private airplane.  She had no idea what happening till she heard Aurora on Phoenix one.

Her father the King and her brother the Crown Prince were dead on a hunting trip.  It might have been murder.  She was no longer the spare who was living quietly a college student.  She was now the Crown Princess soon to be Queen of Merveille.

She was met by the good looking Jordan Wicks her brother's good friend from childhood.  He was now home and stationed at the Palace.
Her brother's other good friend was Will Darkly  He grew up handsome too.  Alyssabeth got tingles from him.

Everything has changed for Alyss.  She has to get advisers, lady's waiting.  She is sent to meetings for both the Queen and King roles.  Her country had never had a Queen before.

This is the first book by Emma Lea that I have read it was worth the price and I will look for more books from her.

"Lynn Cahoon has created an absorbing, good fun mystery in Mission to Murder." --Fresh Fiction

My review: Tea Cups and Carnage by Lynn Cahoon (A Tourist Trap Mystery #7)

    4 stars

I like this series of cozy mysteries.  This is the seventh book in the series but you can read it solo if you want.  I think I have missed a book in the series.  I like the characters, the setting and the mystery.  It is also a clean cozy mystery.

Jill Gardner is the main character.  She owns Coffee, books and More.  She is involved in the city business group.  Her boyfriend is the police detective.

Kathi Corbin has moved to town she is opening a tea shop.  She will sell tea sets, teas.  She is from Texas.  Her family has shown up in town too.  She is not happy about it.

Jill is curious about the Corbin family and can't stop digging for information about them.  Where Kathi came from.

This is more than a murder mystery.  You get involved with the characters,  and see there daily life.  You know all of Jill's co-workers and a little about there lives.  You know the different shop owners.  It is a nice fast book.

South Cove, CA is a tourist town right by the ocean.

I will read more books by Lynn Cahoon in the future.  In fact you can get a look at her new series in the back of the book.

I was given a ARC to read for free from NetGalley and Kensington  Books and in return I agreed to give a honest review of Tea Cups and Carnage.

My review: Into Dust by B.J. Daniels  (The Montana Hamiltons #5)

    4 STARS

Has some good twists I did not see coming.  This is one series that is better to read in order.  It has a bunch of story lines that it continues in each book and always had at least one new one.

This opens right into the mystery Jack Durand sees his father pay a good at his mom's grave.  Jack follows the goon and interrupts him trying to kidnap Cassidy Hamilton.

Cassidy Hamilton is the youngest daughter of Buck Hamilton who is running for President.  He just won the primary.  Cassidy is a twin.  She is in Houston staying with a friend no one else knows she is there.

Jack keeps secrets from Cassidy till he finds out for sure his father his behind the attempted kidnapping.

Cassidy mother Sarah is getting some of her memories back.  She had disappeared for most of Cassidy's life.  She had her memories wiped. She is being blackmailed to make sure Buck stays in the race or Cassidy will be killed.

The Prophecy group is behind  a lot.  They have had sleeping agents with along plan that deals with the Presidency.  Sarah  is part of there plan.  She wanted out that is why they took her memory for 22 years and why they now brought her back.  They have killed and are not afraid to kill again.

If you have been reading this series at all you will want to read this book.  Has more answers to some of the questions,

Has a great tease to what the next book tells us and makes me want to read it right now if I had it.

The setting goes between Houston, Texas and Montana.  to the Hamilton ranch.

A couple of love scenes but easy to skip if you want to.

I was given this Arc from NetGalley and Harlequin to read for free and in exchange I agree to give a honest read of Into Dust.

Candidate for Murder (A Mac Faraday Mystery Book 12) by Lauren Carr

Candidate for Murder (A Mac Faraday Mystery Book 12)It’s election time in Spencer, Maryland, and the race for mayor is not a pretty one. In recent years, the small resort town has become divided between the local year-round residents who have enjoyed their rural way of life and the city dwellers moving into their mansions, taking over the town council, and proceeding to turn Deep Creek Lake into a closed gate community—complete with a host of regulations for everything from speed limits to clothes lines.
When the political parties force-feed two unsavory mayoral nominees on the town residents, Police Chief David O’Callaghan decides to make a statement—by nominating Gnarly, Mac Faraday’s German shepherd, to run as mayor of Spencer!
What starts out as a joke turns into a disaster when overnight Gnarly becomes the front runner—at which point his political enemies take a page straight out of Politics 101. What do you do when you’re behind in a race? Dig up dirt on the front runner, of course.
Seemingly, someone is not content to rest with simply embarrassing the front runner by publicizing his dishonorable discharge from the United States Army, but to throw in a murder for good measure.
With murder on the ballot, Mac Faraday and the gang—including old friends from past cases—dive in to clear Gnarly’s name, catch a killer, and save Spencer!

My review: Candidate for Murder (A Mac Faraday Mystery Book 12) by Lauren Carr

    5 STARS

This is funny, full of true feelings people feel about politics at times.  I am convinced I would vote for Gnarly.
We learn about Gnarly's past and why he was discharged without honor from Army.  Fans of Mac Faraday will love it.  You can read as stand alone but much better to have read other books first.

Police Chief David O'Callaghan is fed up with both candidates for his small town Mayor.  He is dog sitting Gnarly and to make a statement he registers him as a independent candidate. Gnarly is smarter and more honor than anyone running.  Things take off right away because others are fed up too.

Lies come out about Gnarly and his past. Jessicas and Murphy get involved with Gnarly to find out the truth.
I want a less dangerous Nigel for myself.

One of the candidates starts to have things happen around them.  They don't trust David to be fair.

Mac Faraday is back with all his regular characters and some new ones too.  Mac on the day he lost everything in his divorce inherited $270 million dollar estate from his birth mother and property in Deep Creek Lake.  Mac was a homicide detective in DC.  Now he helps solve homicides as a hobby for his half-brother David small police force.

Gnarly is a German Shepherd that Mac inherited too.  Gnarly is smart and was trained by U.S. Army.  He is also a thief.

I love to read books by Lauren Carr.  They have mystery, drama, and humor.  I look forward to reading more of them in the future.  This is also a clean read.  Some violence dealing with murders, terrorists ect.

I was given this ebook to read for free by Lauren Carr.  This is my honest opinion.

My review: Pony Express Hero by Rhonda Gibson (Saddles and Spurs)

    4 STARS

I liked the plot of Pony Express Hero.  It was cute, tender, historical, had drama, mystery, action, with characters that I admired and would like to see more of.  It was also a clean read.

Jacob Young is a character from another book.  He has come to look for his mother and ask her why she left him in a orphanage when he was 10 years old.  He still works for Pony Express but he will be out of a different ranch.

Lilly Johnson and her little sister Daisy own a ranch. Lilly has been taking care of her sister since she was born and running the ranch.  She is only 20.  Daisy is 4.

Jacob as he is getting close to his new home hears a child screaming.  She is being chased by a herd of cows.  Jacob rushes to rescue her before she gets hurt.  Someone had taken Daisy and put her in danger while she was sleeping.

Jacob offers to help Lilly watch out for Daisy and protect her.  He soon finds out that Daisy is his half -sister.

Jacob does not trust women. While Lilly thinks men only want to marry her for the ranch.

The descriptions made it easy to picture life on the ranch.

I would read more stories by Rhonda Gibson in the future.  I have liked the stories that I have read by her.

I was given this ebook to read by Harlequin and NetGalley.  In return I agreed to give a honest review of Pony Express Hero.
