Trouble With Air and Magic (California Malcolms)

4 STARS

Trouble With Air and Magic is book 2 in California Malcolms. I want to go and read book 1 now. I like the
characters. They are quirky, fun and likeable. Dorothea has so many sides to her, because she tries to hide herself.
Conan is terrible with communication with people. He is smart, slob and cares about his family.

The book is full of action, drama, paranormal and mystery. It also contains a lot of sex scenes which I admit to skipping over.
Dorrie does not feel like her brother is dead. She did not feel it. She lives in her father's house but it is slowly sliding down a cliff. She has a job running her father's foundation that she hates. She also has a dog name Toto.
Dorrie has someone after her it starts out slow and grows. She also thinks someone is stealing money from the foundation.

Conan runs his own computer security company he actually set up the foundations computer saftey. His brother died in the same accident that Dorries did. He is suspicious about the accident too. He is also recieving warnings from someone called the librarian. He is
looking into the foundation computers to see if someone was stealing the money from the foundation through the computer or if it is a inside job. After Dorrie's tires are slashed he takes her to his home to protect her.

I hope book 3 is coming soon I want to see who the librarian is. I will read more of Patricia Rice's work in the future.
I was given this book by Librarything early review program and asked to review it in exchange.

Romance and Danger are in the Air...

Dorothea Franklin’s life is sliding toward disaster just as surely as her house is crumbling into the Pacific. Her unusual talent for feng shui can’t bring harmony to her invalid father or prevent her brother from dying in an experimental helicopter crash. Or has he?

She turns to computer genius Conan Oswin, whose brother also reportedly died that day. When Dorothea informs Conan that she didn’t feel the vibrations of her brother’s death, he wants to dismiss her illogic... but his instinct for trouble is already on full alert. His attraction to her is almost as distracting as her nonsense about chi and harmony -- nonsense that plants doubts about the deadly crash. If only she would quit twisting his head with temptation, he might be able to save their brothers and her life.

Jack Templar Monster Hunter by Jeff Gunhus

5 STARS

The Templar Chronicles: Book One

I liked reading Jack Templar Monster Hunter and will continue reading the next book.
While Jack is telling the story he cuts back a few times to warn his readers that just
by reading it could put your life in danger. It draws you into the story more.

Children under 14 can't be killed either human or monster unless you first harm a monster.
Jack will turn 14 tomorrow and is body is already changing. He is getting faster, stronger,
and can fight.

Thier are a lot of different types of monsters in this book. Bullys, vampires.oblins, werewolves,
zombies and sirens, plus others.

Jack has two close friends T-rex and Will. He was raised by his Aunt after his parents died.
He meets Eva that tells him somethings but not a lot about what is going on.
I like the characters, they are not perfect kids, they have faults that gets them in trouble but
they also have a lot of good traits. Thier friendships make them stronger.
Lots of action, drama. The book ends in a good place and I hope more is too come in the future.
If your not afraid of monsters this will be a good book to read.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give it a honest review when done by netgalley.

Orphan Jack Smith has no memory of his parents and only the smallest details from his Aunt Sophie about how they died. But the day before his fourteenth birthday, things start to change for him. At first it's great: A sudden new strength helps him defend his nose-picking friend "T-Rex" from the school bully, and even his crush, Cindy Adams, takes notice. But then a mysterious girl named Eva arrives and tells him two facts that will change his life forever. First, that he's the descendent of a long line of monster hunters and he's destined to be in the family business. Second, that there's a truce between man and monster that children are off-limits...until their fourteenth birthday! Jack has only one day to prepare before hundreds of monsters will descend on his little town of Sunnyvale and try to kill him.

As if that weren't enough, Jack discovers that the Lord of the Creach (as the monsters are collectively known) holds a personal grudge against him and will do anything to see that Jack has a slow and painful death. To stay alive and save his friends, Jack will have to battle werewolves, vampires, harpies, trolls, zombies and more. But perhaps the most dangerous thing he must face is the truth about his past. Why do the other hunters call him the last Templar? Why do they whisper that he may be the "One?" Why do the monsters want him dead so badly? Even as these questions plague him, he quickly discovers survival is his new full-time job and that in the world of monster hunters, nothing is really what it seems.

Phoebe on her way out over hears a conversation that she figures is about her mystery man and wonders what that is about. The more she thinks on it the more she thinks he should know about it.

Dylan is upset that his Princess is missing. He wished he had not left her alone at all. He is not going to leave it alone. Especially when he thinks that Oliva might know more that she saying about that.

All He Ever Dreamed (Kowalski#6)

I liked it better than #5 in the Kowalski series. Some ways it was easy to see where the book was headed all along the way. Still how they got their was told really good. I did not want to put the book down.

Shannon has created the Kowalski family. They are more character driven romances. This is Josh and Katie story. But you see and hear whats going on with his other brothers and friends too. I missed reading book 3 & 4 but don't feel lost in the later books. It is easy to read any of the books so far that I can see. Though it is richer if you had read them. I want to go back and read them sometime in the future.

When his dad died his brothers and sister just assumed he would stay and keep the lodge going. Josh has let the anger build up in him and when he broke his leg they all came home to help. Kowalskis #5

This is my 3 Kowalskis series that I have read. I enjoyed the first two a lot more. All he Ever Desire is a good story. The extended family does show up at a wedding in the book. But family interaction is not a big as deal in this branch of the family.
Thier seemed to be more foul language in this book too. Thier are a few love scenes too.
Ryan Kowalskis comes to his hometown to help get the family lodge in better shape. He brings with him two of his workers to stay at the lodge during the week. He has left his business in his forman hands while he stays the two hours away at the lodge to work.

Ryan starts dating Lauren and just wants to see where it is going without making plans or even realizes that he lives ways away from her and her son.

Thier is some humor in the story. Mostly character driven. I like the characters and would like to read more of the Kowalskis family and see what happens in thier lives.

When Summer Comes by Brenda Novak

5 STARS
when Summer Comes is a Whiskey Creek book. It took me longer to read this book because I got so emotional and had to wipe the tears.
Thier are few in my family & friends who are dealing with kidney transplant, so it hit close. Plus I like the characters in Whiskey Creek.I look forward to coming back and visiting them again.
Callie Vanetta heard her door knock loudly in the middle of the night. She lives alone at a family farm. The voice on the porch demanded help and asked if a man was thier to help him. He needed a first aid kit.
Callie knew it was a stranger than because pretty much the whole town knows she is staying thier to fix up the place to sell it.
Callie dialed 911 and told them someone was banging on her door saying he needed help.
She told the man that she had called the cops. The stranger had said why did you call them it will only make things worse. He took off.
The cops did not find him and the blood trail ended. After they left Callie went back to bed. She is really sick and if she does not get a liver transplant by end of summer she will die. Callie is hiding it from everyone.
Callie wakes up to noise in her bathroom. Levi McCloud is in her bathroom trying to find first aid kit. He fell in the bathtub. Levi has bite marks all over him and has lost a lot of blood. He won't go to emergency room and makes her promise to not call the cops again.
So Callie calls her neighbor a retired vet. They both fix him up. Levi has been back from war for two years traveling around the country on his motorcycle. He broke down up the road from Callie and while pushing his motorcycle was attacked by two dogs and he fought them off. All he owns is his bike and backpack.
Callie makes him a deal he can stay in the room in the barn and help fix it and paint it and she will toss in food and money to fix the bike.
Because Callie is facing death she is acting different. She is not to worried about him hurting her. Since noone knows about her illness they want her to be careful and get rid of him.
Thier were so many places that got my tears flowing. This book made me feel so much.
Thier is so much drama in the book besides what Callie is facing. Her friends have different problems, Levi has lots of issues, someone tries to kill Levi. I only put the book down to wipe my eyes. Thier is one love scene.

Beyond Valor by Lindsay McKenna

5 STARS

Beyond Valor is a new series of books that starts off from a old series from Lindsay,
Morgan's Mercenaries. Megan Trayhern is a trained nurse and medic. Her father is Noah Trayhern a retired Coast Guard officer.
Megan has kind of followed her family's tradition of serving in the armed forces. She could have been a Officer but chose to be in the field helping. Megan is sent into Afghanistan near the Pakistan border. Megan as a women can go into the nearby village and treat the women and young children. They could not recieve medical help from men.
She is made welcome by the Afghanistan chief's wife. Given 4 widows to make a clinic and help her.
Her commanding officer is not thrilled to have a women in his combat unit. They only have one medic where they need at least 3. He assigns Luke Collier, A marine corps combat medic to be in charge of her. Luke is excited about this trial program because he sees the need for women to help the other women when they need it.
Luke and Megan are drawn to each other right away but they both fight it. While they are equal in rank they can be quartmashelled if they have a relationship.
This novel is full of action and drama, strong characters, explains pretty good the life the Afghans villagers must face with different factions willing to kill anyone who does not belive like them. Some of the things that we take for granted they have to fight for. I was drawn into the story and did not want to put the book down till I had finshed it.
Thier is one love scene in the book.

Blood of the Sorceress is book 3 in The Portal series.
It does a good job tying up the loose ends and filling in the blank spots. Thier is a few love scenes in the book that I skipped over. Thier was plenty of drama, romance, magic and action.
The characters that in previous books that I really did not care about I learned to care and see why they acted that way. The new characters especially Gus and Sid I liked.
Demetrius is now free naked and alone. He only has the three items that the first two witches used to hold part of his soul with him. Demetrius finds a empty cottage and takes clothes,a bus ticket to New York, and some money.
He ends up living on the street with a old homeless man Gus his only friend. Who does not really believe his story.
Lilia can only be brought into the world by Demetrius using his gifts and powers. Then she only has a short time to convince him to give up his powers and imortality to live on earth with her till they die a natural death. She can not tell him that if he does not agree to give up his powers and accept the part of his soul she holds by a certain date they both will die.
Demetrius and Gus are dreaming what they would do if they won the lottery when the knife and the chalis started to glow. A voice in his head told him what to do. When he followed the voice Lilia appeared naked into the alley with him. He ran from the witch into a drunk driver.
Who was a really rich and wanted to run for public office soon. So he gave Demetrius a mansion to live in for a year. Stock in his company, house staff for 3 year and money to take care of thier needs in arizonia.
Same time that Lilia came to earth so did the wizard who cursed Demetrius and killed the 3 witches. He came and took over the Priest who was in a comma body. He Plans to stop them again.

I enjoyed reading The Cowboy's Surprse Bride this sunday. I can really imangine the snowy winter scenes by looking out my windows.
It took a lot of bravery for Linette to come across the ocean to marry a man she did not know. She reached out along the way to help others and caring for them no matter what. Linette is a good example of caring for others.
Eddie had big plans to marry a girl he had seen before crossing the ocean to ranch in British terratories.(now Canada)He is surprised when a different woman gets off the stagecoach and plans to marry him. Before he is done he ends up with two women and a 4 year old orphan that is scared of him.
Eddie lives in a two bedroom cabin till he gets a more formal house finshed. So he gets to sleep on the kitchen floor while the women get his bed. He tells them they can stay till spring since the stage coach won't be able to take them anywhere till then.
Eddie knows his father won't want him to Marry Linette because he does not like her father.

She thinks that she can show Eddie how much she can be a good wife for him. Except she does not know how to cook and she keeps making lots of mistakes. Linette believes with Gods help anything is possible.
This is a nice romance story of settling in the west. How life might be like and the attidudes around that time. It is a very clean read.

The First Prophet by Kay Hooper

4 STARS

The First Prophet is book 1 of the Bishop Files.

I liked the story but it was confusing on who are the good guys and bad guys. Even with the first book read I am not totally sure of the answer.
I was expecting to see more of Bishop and gang in this book than we did see.
I liked the characters and thier journey they went through it should be interesting to see where the next two books reveal. Hopefully they will come out sooner than later.
This was my book of the month selection. Lots of drama, action as they try and figure out who is following Sarah Gallagher around, what do they want with her. They already burned her house down and she barely made it out alive.
Writer Tucker has been looking for a psychic for years to help him find someone. He really does not believe in them. In fact he has proved some were fakes. He arrives while her house is burning down and feels like he needs to watch over her when he finds out someone has been watching her and her house fire was arson.

Discription taken off Goodreads

Within the FBI, there exists a team of psychics whose powers cannot be denied. But these agents are feared—by a cabal of conspirators with only one weapon: to blind the psychics to the evils all around them.

Blue Suede Shoes by Deborah Reardon

4 STARS

Blue Suede Shoes is a well told story. But I had a hard time getting into it. Maybe because the missing is a little girl. I raised two girls and thinking if one of mine had gone missing.

The characters are interesting and I like them mostly. Clare is not happy to be back in her hometown. Clare relationships are strained around her. Clare keeps trying to figure out what happened to the little girl. Her good friend found evidence of blood and her shoes. She is dating the sheriff but not ready to get serious. Clair has a lot of anger in life.
Clare is a banker but she wanted to go into police work and actually took two years in collage in thier program, but had to go back home because of her moms health problem.

For her first book was pretty good and I look forward to reading her next novel. I was
given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley.

Redemption by B.J. Daniels

5 STARS

Redemption was full of suspense, mystery, danger. The book kept me guessing till the end. Every time I thought the drama was over more surprises were to come. Some of the people that were hiding secrets made me mad. So much hate, lies were told so people could get thier way.

I thought by previous books that I would not like Jack and Kate. Thier story was good. A slow build up in thier characters before I came to understand them and care about them.
The story takes place in Beartooth Montana with the Crazy mountains in the background. A lot of characters took after the mountains. Lots of these characters were introduced in other stories set around Beartooth. It was good to come back and see how some of the characters have grown and changed.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley.

Witch Twins by Adele Griffin

4 stars

Witch Twins is book one of the series. It is pretty good story aimed at older elementry age or higher. The twins look a like but are way different. They try to help and sometimes they try to use witch craft but they are newer witches and get into trouble.
Claire and Luna's dad is getting remarried and they are afraid they will loose him. That he will move away so they want to stop the wedding. The girls dont like change.

It keeps your attention in the story and has some good lessons that the girls learn along the way.
I would give this too my niece who loves to read. I think she would like it. I would read the other Witch Twins book in the series. It is fun story dealing with some real problems that a lot of kids face. No not the witch part.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review of it from Netgalley.

Description taken from Netgalley about Witch Twins

Claire and Luna may be witches, but there’s no easy spell to stop a wedding!

Though identical on the outside, ten-year-old twins Claire and Luna Bundkin are as different on the inside as peaches and peanut butter. Claire is mischievous and Luna is a dreamer, but they do share a favorite hobby: witchcraft. Whether it’s making breakfast or washing dishes, there’s nothing a five-star witch can’t accomplish with a wave of her pinkie finger. But there are two strict rules: Don’t tell Mom, and don’t try any spells without Grandy—their magical grandmother—watching. When Claire and Luna’s father announces that he’s getting remarried to a loudmouthed Texas woman named Fluffy, the twins know they need to do something to stop the wedding. Fluffy wouldn’t be a bad stepmother, but Claire and Luna know that she would lure their father to far-away Houston. A spell might be the only way to save their Dad, and they’ll try anything. Even if magic usually lands them in a pot of trouble. This ebook features a personal history by Adele Griffin including rare images and never-before-seen documents from the author’s own collection.

Murder Key (Matt Royal Mysteries)H. Terrell Griffin

4 STARS

Murder Key is the first book I have read using Amazon Prime program. At 11:30 pm I was around 65% through when the book quit on me. After I tried reloading it I chated with Amazon customer service and got it figured out. Had to restart my kindle. It was not at a place that I wanted to stop reading.

Murder Key is full of action and drama. Loyal friends and bad cops. Also plenty of good cops. Matt has no idea why someone wants him dead. The only way he will be safe is to find out why. Logan and Jock take off work to help protect Matt and figure out whats going on. Matt gets his first taste of what Jock has had to face in working for the secret goverment agency.

I have liked all seven of Matt Royal Mysteries that I have read this week and sad now that I have read them. If you like action, detective, spy stories you will like Matt and his friends. I would like to live in florida for the winters too.

The mystery flows and tingles in the beautiful Florida autumn, the ugliness of the phosphate mines and migrant camps juxtaposed against the pristine beaches and extravagant lifestyles of the island Matt calls home.

GUEST AUTHOR SARA BARTON

As an author, I’m still discovering all the ins and outs, the whys and hows of getting my books out to the public. That’s why I appreciate the opportunity to share my books on Readalot. These blogs are a very important tool, not just for authors, but also for readers. There are so many books now in digital form and in print. How do you find out what the next best book is, if not by a recommendation from someone who loves to read?

Rhonda’s personal story has actually given her some valuable credentials as a reviewer. Books are her wings, and she is passionate about losing herself in a terrifying tale or laughing with a humorous character. When you read Rhonda’s reviews, you can find yourself swept up by the passion she has for a good storyline. She enjoys a real page-turner and it comes through in her enthusiasm. She makes you want to read more because it’s a pleasurable experience. That’s the best kind of reviewer.

I wrote The Practical Caregiver Capers after being a long-time family caregiver. Some people think that being a caregiver makes you noble. The truth is it makes you humble. If you’ve ever struggled to understand the world through the eyes of someone with a disease or a disability, you know the deck is stacked for that person, so you try to find the right card to play, to keep your loved one in the game as long possible, even when the odds are against it.

Wise caregivers learn valuable life lessons from the experience. If we do it right, it makes us better human beings -- kinder, more compassionate, more caring. It’s not about doing everything for a loved one. It’s about making your loved one as independent as possible. That’s why family caregivers are often so dedicated to helping a loved one in need. I’ve never met a caregiver who ever regretted the sacrifice. We’d do it all over again in a heartbeat. That’s because we know our loved ones are the real heroes, facing the battle to survive every day.

My favorite story in the Practical Caregiver Capers anthology, “Having a Killer Time, Wish You Were Here!”, is about a woman who becomes her mother’s caregiver after a stroke ravages Mama. As the main character in “The Passion Beach Psycho Strikes at Midnight”, the good-hearted Mel strives to do her best, but that doesn’t mean she has all the answers. Sometimes she’s just clueless. Even as she struggles to balance her career with her mother’s need for care, Mel knows she needs to do more to help. She takes on the task of taking her mother down to Passion Beach for the therapeutic benefits. That sounds a lot easier than it really is, because her mother has some serious physical disabilities. And yet Mama’s still feisty, with an independent streak a mile wide. That comes in handy when Mel is in trouble, because Mel needs all the help she can get to stay alive.

The thing I like most about Mel is that she really tries to figure out how to help her mother feel less trapped in a body that no longer works as it should. While other people might be willing to plunk Mama in a wheelchair, to spend her days immobilized, Mel refuses to quit. She goes the extra mile trying to communicate because she’s all too aware of how frustrated her mother is at not being understood.

But the real hero of the story is Mama. She may be stuck in a wheelchair and unable to speak clearly, but her mind is still as sharp as a tack. Who would ever expect her to come through when Mel is in danger? And yet she does. A lot of folks think that disabled people are somehow weaker than the rest of us. Sometimes those among us who struggle the most are the ones with the real inner strength, courage, and determination to survive. Mama is very resourceful, even from her wheelchair, and she’s determined to protect her daughter.

4 STARS

Collateral Damage is a Matt Royal Mystery.

It is full of drama, action, mystery. Matt is starting to really like J.D. Longboat's only police detective. Something is going on Longboat killing people. Thier is 4 murders on the same day.
The characters are still loyal and strong friendships tying them together. Doc. who served in Vietnam and saved Matt's life comes asking for help in solving his son's murder. Matt starts looking into them and then he is attacked. Logan and Jock start looking into it with him. Matt for being a retired lawyer and now a beach bum sure gets into a lot of trouble.

Description

Matt Royal is in trouble and probably in love, but he's not sure. His buddies, Logan Hamilton and Jock Algren, come to his aid and together they try to figure out why a young bridegroom was killed on the beach of their southwest Florida island and what, if anything, that murder has to do with other murders that took place aboard a dinner cruise boat the same day. Fun in the sun becomes a deadly chase when Matt and his friends run into some very bad guys who seem to have no compunction about killing people.

Collateral Damage has a bunch of strings that they are having a hard time untangling to find what is really going on. What is Doc. not telling Matt and J.D. It is fast paced story. You don't want to put down till you are through. At least I have not wanted to. This is the 5th Matt Royal story that I have read in the last few days. I think I have missed two of them that I will have to go get them.

I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review by Netgalley.

Wyatt's Revenge: A Matt Royal Mystery by H. Terrell Griffin

4 STARS

Wyatt's Revenge is book 4 in the Matt Royal Mystery series. This book has a lot of revenge, greed, brothers in arms. Thier is a part of Matt that comes out that is wrong. I can see him justifing his decisions but no matter how evil it is wrong to set out to murder someone.
I learned a little more about different groups were like during WWII. How many Jews were slaughtered and robbed. How Christian churches helped smuggle the Natzis out of Germany.
Thier is some strong language, violence. Non stop action and drama as they fly across the ocean and back.
I got this book free on Amazon awhile back. I have one more of Matt Royal books on my kindle to read yet and I just might have to break down and buy the other two that I don't own yet. I like the characters, How loyal and good friends they are too each other. They try to do what is right and protect freedoms and safty for others.

Matt Royal never has to look far for excitement. Excitement-and sometimes trouble-has a way of finding him first. But for this fun-loving lawyer turned beach bum, things are about to get serious. Dead serious. When his ex-wife asks for help in tracking down her stepdaughter, last seen in Matts hometown of Longboat Key, Matt agrees to do a little searching. Enlisting the aid of his buddies Jock Algren and Logan Hamilton, Matt launches a full-speed-ahead search that leads from Longboat Key to Key West to an ominous strip of land called Blood Island. Bullets fly, and as the clock ticks down, it will be up to Matt to make sure that what happens on Blood Island stays on Blood Island.

I did not want to put down the book till it was through with it. I admit in one place I did share a few tears. Can't wait to read the next Matt Royal Mystery book.

Longboat Blues by H. Terrell Griffin

4 STARS

This is the second Matt Royal Mystery now that I have read in the past 2 days. I liked it so much I am going to read another one next.
Longboat Blues is more of a legal thriller that draws you in right away and keeps your attention all the way through. Like the characters, the drama. Some stronger language in this book especially from one character. It reminded me of a Perry Mason show with dramatic scenes in the courtroom.
I bought this from amazon because I liked previous Matt Royal mystery.

Fatal Decree: A Matt Royal Mystery by H. Terrell Griffin

4 STARS

This is my first Matt Royal Mystery but not my last. I found that I had two others on my kindle that I will read next. Fatal Decree I believe is the 6th Matt Royal Mystery.
Thier are a lot of characters that fans of the series has already met in detail.
Fatal Decree can stand alone but I want to go back and read the books before in the series.
I like Matt and his friends. They have some very powerful friends in high places. Thier was no way I would have guessed who the killer was and why. It is full of drama, action, police detective, secret goverment agencies, drug dealers, murders. Did not want to put the book down until I had finshed reading it.

Description

When a serial killer shows up on Longboat Key, Florida after a twelve year absence, Matt Royal is stymied. The first woman killed on Longboat Key has ties to a secretive government agency for which Matt's best friend Jock Algren works. Was this a coincidence or was she a targeted kill? Matt's friend, Longboat Key detective Jennifer Diane (J.D.) Duncan investigates the murders but also seems to be a target of the killer. Why? And where has the killer been for the past twelve years? And why has he come to Longboat Key when his earlier kills were all in Miami? The mystery deepens when Guatemalan gang-bangers try to kill Matt and J.D. and suspicions grow that Mexican drug cartels are somehow involved. The director of Jock's agency orders him to do whatever is necessary to find the killer because of the death of the woman with connections to the agency. Will Jock simply take out the murderer or allow J.D. and the law to arrest, try and convict the bad guys? Matt's life is further complicated by J.D.'s growing dissatisfaction with island living and her thoughts of returning to Miami. (Taken off Netgalley site about Fatal Decree)

Matt Royal is retired lawyer and loyal friend. He is divorced and a beach bum is his discription.
Jock Algren works for secret goverment agency and when he is between assignments lives on the island in Matt's house.
Diane (J.D.) Duncan Matt's friend who he wants to be closer too but does not want to ruin friendship. She is the Island's detective. Someone wants her dead. Her boss is Matt's friend too.

The one thing that I did not like is that clue about what was going to go wrong with thier plan. Matt hinted a lot of different times about what was going to happen. Just a little complaint.

I would love to live on Longboat Key, Florida too especially after the foot of snow in my yard this week.
I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it when I was done by Netgalley.

All Due Respect by Vicki Hinze

5 STARS

It was a nail biter. Lots of drama, action and dealing with abuse and overcoming it.
My heart was racing reading one part of the book. I really was into it.
Former Air Force scientist Dr. Julia Warner-Hyde has been hiding in small town teaching grade school. When her former partner finds her and asks her to come back and work with him. If she does not millions might die with the missle system that they had developed together being in the wrong hands.
Julia is afraid to go back to that life she ran from. But how can she live if millions are at risk if she does not? She also is worried about one of her students who's mother died and she believes that the father is abusing him.
Dr. Seth Holt has missed his old partner Julia since she just left 3 years ago without a goodbye. Thier missile system has been stolen and he is working on something that will defend against it but things are not as secure as it needs to be. He needs someone he trusts to lead the project. He has loved Julia for five years but has not let her know it because she is happily married to a cop. He needs her. It could be life or death if the work is taken and with the missile could be deadly to our country.
Julia has been hiding for 3 years ago because her ex-husband had abused her for years and three years ago she was almost killed by his hand. She does not want Seth to know and pity her. She finally tells him she was attacked just not by whom. Told him she was in coma and almost died 3 times.
Agent 12 working in security pretended he had not met her but actually helped her to be safe and how to hide.
Someone at the lab is trying to get the program they are working on. Setting up Julia and Seth as the ones behind the sabatoge. Mathew trusts both Seth and Julia. Seth and Julia almost trust each other but they have both been abused in the past and is hard to trust others.
Julia's ex-husband is out of prison after only 3 years. Even while in prison he would call and threaten her 4 to 5 times a week. She has had 14 unlisted phone numbers and her cell and new apartment are not even in her name. But Karl has had help finding her always.
Thier is a terrorist group inside the United States that has the missile and now wants the new technology they are developing against the use of it. Can turn the missile back to thier home. They want the power of having both and want to get back at the goverment. They are not afraid to use it.
I really enjoyed this novel. High suspense level. Like Vicki Hinze novels and plan to read more especially if they are as good as this one is.

C.R.I.M.E. Science - Book 1: The Beginning by Sue Perry

3 STARS

You can tell that this book was written in the past. So many changes in phones & computers. I would be interested in what the next book in the series will be like.
I had a problem of connecting to the characters and caring about what happens to them.
The story was good but a lot of science that made it hard for me to be interested.
Its a clean read. A short story or novella.
This is a different detective agency with a bunch of scientists and tech whizzes that solve cases.
Thier client wants them to prove that her husband a famous volcano scientist was murdered. The police did not question his death was anything but a accident. A lot of volcano scientists die in explosions or eruptions. She had the body cremated before she thought it through.
They take the case and try to back track and see who might have wanted him dead and why.

Blüd and Magick by Preston Norton

4 STARS

Blud and Magick is a different story but is simalar in type to Harry Potter fans will like. It has magic, wizards, vampires, good guys and bad guys some you know some you don't expect at all. Blud and magick has lots of drama, kids in high school trying to fit in.
The story evolves around Darla. But she has no idea of how her beginning was different and thier are fractions wanting her dead, some want her so they can have thier evil leader back.
All Darla knows is that she lives with her Uncle and he is always moving to different towns and she has to be the new kid in school again. That boys are always following her around and being dumb about it. She is a Straight A student.
She is now a freshman and the new school has started two weeks ago. Darla hates attention and always get it. Except by two brothers she is assigned to work with. They tend to be in a world by themselves. Ash and Cirrus the rest of the school think they are nuts too.
Then thier world changes around them when Darla sees Ash use magic and then she uses it to protect a bully. Darla has no idea she can do magic or that real power and other worldly beings are real.
I did not put the book down till I had finshed reading it. The drama kept coming. Some of the Characters I wish were a little more fleshed out. The ending felt a little rushed. Still have questions and wonder if thier will be more books to follow. I hope so. I want more answers to my questions.

Guardian by Gerald N. Lund

5 STARS

This is a great story. It is full of enchantment, drama, action and humor too.
The main characters are three children with two of them teenagers. Danni McAllister
at age 13 gets a birthday present from her grandfather that is an old purse or bag that has been passed down in thier family for over a 100 years. She tries to hide her disappointment in it.
Her best friend for years has been Ricky Ramirez he has to help babysit his sisters and even works with Dani's father part time. He is a year older than Dani.
Cody is 10 and Dani's sister. He is smart with numbers.
Dani & Cody's family is being held hostage for 20 million dollars that thier family is selling a mine for that price. The kidnappers know a lot about thier family and what they are up to.
Dani is a tomboy, stubborn. She gets a rifle for her 13 birthday too and her grandfather, father,Ricky and her go camping and Ricky and her get taught how to fire the rifle.
Dani gets teased about the pouch that is called the Guardian because her mother makes her take it to school in her middle school everyday. One day some interesting things happen to Dani and she learns a little more about what the pouch can do. She learns some important lessons along the way.
When thier family is kidnapped Dani and Cody get away and caught again and escape. Every time it looks bleak for them something happens to help them out of trouble. But when things are looking like they will workout something goes wrong so you are on your edge of the seat waiting for what happens next.
It is a well told story and I hated to have to put it down. The characters are exciting with flaws and good points. This is a book that a lot of different ages can read and enjoy it. Or even read it together. I loved it. Would like to read more by Gerald N. Lund.
This book makes me want to go camping and explore some of the places that the book takes place in more. Dani lives in the small town of Hanksville. They talk about a few different canyons that are close by thier. Even Lake Powell which I have not gone to for years.
I wish I had a purse that made wishes come true for me. I recommend that you read this book and be carried away with its enchantment too.

Scandalous was first published 1991 in Loveswept. I recongized that I had read this book years ago. Could not remember much of the details but it was fun to back and read it again. I probably still have the paperback in a box somewhere.
There are love scenes that I did skip over.
Paisley Vandermeir spent her first seven years in a hippie commune and then to high society after that. Her Aunt Izzy was wild in the 20s and took Paisley and taught her to be free and daring. The rest of the family looked down on her. Paisley loves her Aunt Izzy and all her vintage clothing. Which she wears all the time. Her Aunt is giving everything to charity.
In the Vandermeir thier is always one person that causes a scandalous scene. Her Aunt Izzy fell for a married man and had an affair with him. So Paisley thinks if she picks her scandalous affair than she can get on with her life. First she needs to give something back from her Aunt to her lover.
Christopher Quincy Maitland is at his sister's debut and his grandfather was unwell so Paisley gives it to Christopher and asks him to secretly give it to his grandfather.
Christopher has been engaged for 11 years while he waits for his fiance to finsh school.
Paisley thinks that if she publicly tries to win Christopher that he would be safe because he must really love his fiance to wait so long. She thinks it is the perfect plan. Then things don't fall in the way she thinks. and how strongly she feels for Christopher and Christopher's feelings in return.
Some humor scenes in this book. Lots of love scenes. I think it would be fun to dress up in fancy old clothes but I would be afraid of ruining them.
I was given this ebook to read and asked to give it a honest review of it when I was done from Librarything.

Countdown to First Night by

4 STARS

There is 3 novella s that mainly take place New year Eve in Snow Falls, Colorado-on First Night. The main complaint is I wanted more. All three stories are a clean read. Each one had children being raised by a single parent. Love all the kids and thier joy.
Winter's Heart by Jillian Hart
Shelby Craig is down on her luck. She lost her husband a cop before her second child was born. Now they are almost homeless and she is coming to Snow Falls to stay with her grandma and at least as a few days work for the First night at the bakery in town.
She is almost to her grandmas when she gets a flat tire. A cop pulls her over and she has expired plates.
The cop Deputy Winters recongizes her after a while as the fist girl who broke his heart at 10. He lives next to her grandma house still.

Snowbound at New Year by Margaret Daley
Ellie Summers childrens author has come for the first night festivals from the east coast. She is to open the first night and give a talk, read her book. Really she agreed because she needs to talk to her new illustrator not really working out. If they cant get together on what she wants she will need to find a new one fast.
Ellie decides to meet with him now instead of in a couple of days. She gets directions and travels up the mountain. The weather takes a turn for the worst. She is snowed in.
Brody has not told his twins that he might be working with thier favorite author.
They want him too they also want to matchmake for thier father. They are cute girls. What a handful they are.

A Kiss at Midnight by Brenda Minton
Jolie Godwin is a artist who had a rough childhood. She has had hard feeling for Jake Wild the hotel owner. He fired her father years ago. Last year they shared a kiss at New year.
Jake Wild has a hard time trusting women. He has just got custody of his niece who has hearing problems while her mom is in drug rehab.
I don't want to say too much about these books since they are so short. Makes me want to go to First Night. They are cute stories.

Tracking Justice by Shirlee McCoy

4 STARS
Tracking Justice is a Texas K-9 Unit continuity series book.
It has a lot of drama, cute kid, cute dog and some romance thrown together, and it leaves some unanswered questions for the next book in the series so I hope it is coming soon.
Eva Billows is a single mom who is independant. She works and goes to school while being a good mother. She thought she heard her son so got up to check him and he was gone.
Brady age 7 is missing at 2 am. He did not argue with his mother and runaway.
Police detective Austin Black in the K-9 unit answered the call. He was curious about thier being two calls to this street hours apart.
Eva answers the questions but she wants him to take his dog and start searching right now.
When he loses the tracks in the woods near by and they start a search command Eva says she is going with him to find her son. She will not be talked out of it. She had a cell phone so if someone else found him or more questions they can get in touch with her.
Eva was brought up to trust no one. The police were not much help in solving her parents murder over a year ago either.
I like Eva and Austin both our untrusting in relationships and don't want to be attracted to each other.
This is a fast read, keeps your attention in the story. Also keeps you wanting more.
Its a clean read. I want to read more of Shirlee McCoy's books in the future.
I was given this book to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley.

BLAST FORM THE PAST BY LAUREN CARR

5 STARS
This is a Mac Faraday Mystery
I like Lauren's mysteries. I can usually figure out a little piece but never all of it.
There lots of twists, turns, lots of dead bodies, lots of bad guys, lots of good guys and Gnarly too.
There are a lot of characters in this book, most of them are new ones. At the start she has a list of characters and a little about them. I always like that when thier are lots to keep straight.
Kendra Douglas witnesses a murder and testifies against a mob boss. She goes into the witness protection and twelve years later she has been found.
Her boyfriend has no idea she was part of the program untill she killed two killers with her pink gun.
Ramdi Finnegan Marshall who is in charge of protecting Archie wants to move her. No one agrees to be moved. Randi and David O'Callaghan Spencer's police chief fight. Archie does not want to change her name and move again. She does move into the mansion and shares Mac Faraday room.
Randi and David find the leak in the Marshall's office but she is already dead.
Mac gets some of the security guys from his 5 star hotel to help guard Archie with the local police.
Thier are a lot of people who end up walking Gnarly when Archie goes out to walk the dog.
Gnarly brings a lot of humor into the story, from flushing his stolen rubber duckie in the toliet. Too taking down the bad guys and making good friends with a shy little girl who only talks to him.
I think I would take the ice cream cone from Sari and get her a new one over sharing it with Gnarly each taking a lick at a time.
Thier end up being lots of different murder scenes and Spencer is a small police department. While David is working one scene and Bogie is at the manor with Archie. Mac gets a badge and David clothes to go work a different murder scene. He does not like the husband but he has a great witness for his alibi Mac.
They have to figure out who killed who at which murder scene. Which case is the Marshalls or FBIs and which ones are for the local police.
Lots of Drama, action, murder and humor. I did not want to put the book down till I had finshed it.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley.

WELCOME MISTY WRIGHT

What Makes Good and Interesting Characters in Romance Novels?

When you read some interesting romance novels, sometimes you don’t notice that time is flying by, but in your perspective, it feels like it is just a few minutes. A good romance story is the best novel for everybody.

Interesting characters in romance novels are so important in every aspect of a book because the reader relates to these characters. The reader follows every action that the character did and they want to read what happened next after the other next event happens. Interesting characters in a romance story have an amazing body structure so that the reader can imagine how beautiful and handsome he or she is. Every reader likes reading books when they see a very interesting book cover. Characters with a good attitude are one of the best factors of the sequence of the story. Readers like those characters, not only because they are beautiful or handsome, but also because have a good personality.

Attitude is so important, because with the right attitude, you can live freely like nothing else matters. You can make all things possible. Most people need an attitude that lets them look at their situation positively. Did you know that the right attitude can greatly contribute to success? Wow! Good stories are so important to readers, and when a novel is well written, it makes it easy for readers to love your writing or your book. The best method to making every word you want to write interesting, enchanting, and full of mystery is to add a twist to the story. It is like doing a magic trick. Sometimes, readers say that the cover of the book is not important, but it is the mystery within the pages that matters to them. I like saying, “Do not judge a book by its cover; judge a book according to what is inside it.” It is not very easy to write books that are special in the eye of reader; you must be patient as you create a novel out of your ideas. Also, there are many readers who read books because the plot is different. One of the best factors to writing a successful book is its uniqueness, which can easily take the reader’s mind to the next level.

No matter what you write within the book and no matter how you make this unique, in all published books, good stories and good characters can take the reader into an imaginary enchanting and magical world. When you write, first you need to know that every character within the book is special and can help to take the readers inside the story. Second, if characters have a good attitude, then readers can relate to how the characters perceive themselves. One of the factors that get readers to read until the end of the book is if you give them an enchanting story. Readers keep reading until the last chapter. Some people say that readers purchase a book based on its cover; an interesting cover makes people curious about what’s inside. Additionally, make sure to use unique ideas and don’t copy from other authors. Readers love a unique book that gives them a different story from which to learn. Remember that creating interesting characters in your book is the best way to maintain the reader’s excitement until the end.

Immortal Mine: An Immortal Life by Cindy C Bennett

4 STARS
i liked this story, I laughed and cried while reading it.
The story takes place in a small town of Goshen, UT.(I am a shamed that I had to look up where Goshen is especially since its only a around an hour or so from where I live in another small town.)
Niahm Parker is 17 and lives on the family farm. Her parents travel the world and write travel books. She has stayed on the farm while they have traveled since she was 13. She has chickens, cow, dog on 50 acres. She plans to stay in Goshen the rest of her life while all her friends plan to leave as soon as they can.
No one moves to Goshen they all leave instead so it was big news when a farm is sold. The town did not know till the moving van got their. It was passed around that Sam Coleman 17 and his uncle Shane moved in. Everyone took them food to welcome them.
Niahm took her famous pie to them and got off to a bad start with Sam when he asked if it was bought. All the high school girls were excited to have a good looking males move to town.
Sam felt the binding to Niahm which meant that he had to be close by her as much as he can. A binding means to protect her. He ends up boarding his horses at her place till they can fix up thier barn. Sam is really old over 400 years. He is Immortal can only be killed by a few immortals who know how. So they have to be careful of others of thier kind. Sam starts to fall in love with Niahm and that is usually frowned upon getting attached to humans that they feel a binding for. Sam can also read minds by holding someones hands.
It deals with a lot of issues. I like the characters and how slowly they built and let us know more. I kept on thinking how can they leave thier 13 year old home alone while they traveled around all the time. I hope that Cindy writes more books about these characters.
I was given this ebook and asked in return to give honest review when I finshed it from Librarything.

The Soldier's Sweetheart(The Larkville Legacy)

The Soldier's Sweetheart(The Larkville Legacy) by Soraya Lane
4 STARS
It seems lately I have been reading about soldier's coming home with problems from the war. I wish thier was a magic pill that could help them all. Thank You all for your service.
Nate Calhoun has come back to the family ranch wounded both physcally and emotionly. Nate was Special Forces and he loved his job until the last year of it. Nate is not fitting in at home, as nightly terrors & temper is on edge.
He has not met his brand new siblings.
Walking is hard to do with his wounded leg. When he gets to his tree that he used to spend a lot of time under thier is someone thier, Sarah Anderson.
Sarah was his best friend and they used to dream and plan under thier tree. When Nate finally broke it off she had married his good friend Todd.
Sarah has her own heartache. Todd left her for another women and she is pregnant.
Sarah has always wanted a family and now she knows that she can never have her own.
For me I have only read a few of The Larkville Legacy and they have been apart from each other. To me I really have not connected all the stories together in my mind.
I like how Sarah and Nate are opening up to each other, that thier is no easy answer to solve the problems they have. They seem to be real. I wish thier was more of the surrounding characters involved in the story more.
Thier is a couple of love scenes that I skipped over. It is a nice emotional story.
I will read more of Soraya work in the future.
