Going Home (Nugget #1) by Stacy Finz

The small mountain town of Nugget, California, has a strange way of giving people unexpected reasons to start over-and find the most irresistible chances to fall in love...

Maddy Breyer needs to prove she can make her own life after betrayal blew up her previous happily-ever-after. Staying totally focused on renovating a decrepit mansion into a bed-and-breakfast might help her-and this recession-hit town-finally turn things around. But the mysterious new sheriff is the kind of lawbreaking temptation that's an even bigger challenge to resist...

Detective Rhys Shepard is only back in Nugget long enough to care for his ailing father. He's got a big-city promotion far away from this place that never accepted him. He does not need a sudden crime wave to solve. Or one leggy case of heartbreak stirring up all kinds of trouble and challenging his rules. Which might explain why he's suddenly finding it hard to leave...

    4 STARS

This is the first book to the series Nugget.  I liked it. I read the third book first, and now reading the second book.   Going Home is full of drama, romance and a good community. There were a few love scenes toward the end of books.

Rhys Shepard has come back to Nugget because his father was arrested for stealing.  Rhys is a cop in Texas. Turns out his father has Alzheimer.  He has taken six months off work to take care of his father.  He has also taken a temporary job of Nugget's Police Chief and getting it set up.

Maddy Breyer and her brother Nate have bought a old building and plan to restore it into a 20 room bed and breakfast.  She is in the process of getting a divorce.  She has moved temporary in the other side of Rhys house.  Part of the town does not want the inn opened.

I like the characters in town.  You meet a lot of them and want to know more of there stories.  It is a neat community.  Nugget is right close to where the Donnor-Reed party got stuck.  It is the sixth snowiest city in US.

I bought the book on Amazon.

Finally the last book of the Husband Maker is here.  It was good to end.  Was not sure how this book would turn out. I was happy with it.  It is full of drama, relationships, and romance.  It is a clean read.

Charlotte nickname was husband maker.  For years the ex-boyfriend of hers married the next girl they dated after breaking up with her.  Her twin brother Will and his best friend Angus called her Chuck or Charles.

Charlotte at last figured out she loved Angus.  When Charlotte finally told him.  Angus told her it was too late that he was moving away for four years to complete his training and fellowship to special in hip replacements.

Angus finally told Charlotte that he loved her and kissed her. Charlotte ran away to Scotland. He has given up on her and plans to get out of the state and get over her finally. He changed his residency and starting a fellowship at the same time in Kansas city.

Charlotte has to decide what to do.  She loves her life in San Francisco.

I was given this ebook Wife Maker to read so I could give a honest review and be part of Wife Maker blog tour.

    Excerpt below

My phone rang before six the next morning. Who would call that early on a Sunday? I rubbed my bleary eyes and looked at the screen. The number was unfamiliar and a strange configuration. I almost shut it off, but on a hunch, I answered the call.

    “Charlotte, it’s Flynn.”

    “Flynn? Is everything okay?”

“Aye. I think we should talk. Turn on your computer and call me.”

Ten minutes later, Flynn appeared on the screen of my laptop.

    “What’s going on?”

“I think you should move to Kansas City.”

I laughed. “What are you talking about?”

    “Don’t laugh. I’m not jokin’.”

“I can’t move to Kansas City. My job’s here. My family’s here. And I don’t think Angus would even want me to.”

“Ah, he’d say he doesn’t want ya to, but I’d wager that what he wants and what he says he wants are two different things.”

I shook my head. “You’re crazy. This is what you wanted me to call you for at this hour of the morning?”

“Aye. And hear me out. I’ve been chewin’ on this all day.”

I was touched that he’d been trying to figure out a way to help me, but this idea was insane. “I’m listening.”

“You say you’ll wait for him to come back.” I nodded. “What about him? You might be willing to wait for ten years, but what about Angus? He’ll be meeting new people. He won’t be waiting around. If ya want to cook a chicken, ya have to put him in while the water’s boilin’.”

I snickered. “I don’t even know what that means, Flynn.”

“Sure ya do. If ya wait ‘til the water’s all cooled down, good luck cooking the bird. Right now the water’s boilin’.”

“No it’s not. He doesn’t want anything to do with me.”

“That’s ’cause the water’s boilin’. If it weren’t, he’d talk to ya all day long. He’s just tryin’ not to get burned.”

There was an absurd and comforting logic to what he was saying. “Keep going.”

“There’s not much more to say. Move to Kansas City.”

“That’s easier said than done, Flynn.”

“Tell me this. What needs more attention? The things in San Francisco? Or the thing in Kansas City?”

I didn’t answer him. I didn’t know what to say.

“Charlotte, give him a grand gesture. Show ’im he’s more important than the things you’ve left behind.”

“Wow. I should never have answered the phone this morning.”

We laughed. “Think about it. It might work.”

“It might not. And then I’ll be two thousand miles away from my family and I’ll have given up the best job in the world and . . . It’s all so scary.”

“But you’re brave. And if it doesn’t work out, you can go back.”

“I thought you were my friend.”

Flynn didn’t say anything right away. He just smiled. When he finally spoke, his voice was soft. “I am.”

    Second Chances by Stacy Finz

    Description

Nugget, California, is a spot-in-the-road that's easy to miss. But this little mountain town knows how to give the struggling and discouraged many paths back to happiness—and love…

Reporter Harlee Roberts is used to finding the story, not living it. Unfortunately, losing her dream job and glittering city life means she needs a serious rewrite. Downtime at her parents' cabin in Nugget is a break she could really use. But the less her rugged woodworker neighbor has to say to her, the more Harlee’s natural curiosity is piqued, and the more she wants exclusive access—to his heart…

Nugget's open spaces and mountain quiet are the perfect refuge for Colin Burke. All he wants is solitude, to mind his own business—and for Harlee to mind hers. Still, her live-wire personality and take-no-prisoners commitment to those she cares about are a temptation pulling him way too close. Is their connection strong enough to survive his secrets—and risk a future together?

    4 STARS

I liked the town of Nugget so much I went and bought the first two books to read.  Second Chances is book three of the series.  There is a rich base of characters that I want to see more of and see what happens next in there lives.  Lots of community, drama, romance and life.  There is a few loves scenes but easy to skim over.

Harlee Roberts is a reporter that was fired. Not because she was bad but because the newspaper business is down.  Harlee has a nice wardrobe with credit card debt.  So why she waits to get a reporter job.  She is moving into her parents cabin for rent free.  She is going to build her start up company. Harlee is outgoing.

Colin Burke is a carpenter, makes wood furniture.  He has a lot of phobias and secrets. He lives off by himself which is close to Harlee's cabin.  He rescues her from her car going off the mountain.  He is shy but keeps helping her.  Colin is a loner.

Where this the third book in the series I think it stood alone fine but I am going to read the first two books real soon.

The setting is Nugget that is close to where the Donnor party got stuck.  This is a mountain town in California one of the snowest  town in the US.

I was given this ebook to read by Net galley and Kensington.  In return I agreed to give a honest review of Second Chances.

My review: Ladle to the Grave by Connie Archer
    4 STARS
Ladle to the Grave is the fourth book in the A Soup Lover's Mystery series.  This is the first one that I have read though.  I liked it.  I thought it stood alone alright.  The characters had a past, and were interesting.  I was wrong on what I believed about who were the murder was and the motive.  Other twists I saw coming.
Lucky Jamieson is the main character.  She is a good friend, talented and owns By the Spoonful.  A soup shop.  Lucky is hosting a wedding for her fiend Sophie.  Even going to the trouble to make her dress.
In Snowflake there has been two mystery deaths.  The first one it looks like Lucky's Grandfather Jack might be at fault.  The second one is on Sophie's family land and found him.
Jack is Lucky's grandfather.  He has PSTD from the war years ago.  He is a gardener and knows wild plants.
I liked the humor of the town on planning to go to  the wedding even though they were planning a small wedding. (That might be just because my daughter's wedding was just two weeks ago.) I liked the wedding plans.
The setting is small Vermont town with a ski resort up the mountain.  The ski resort wants to buy Sophie's family property. Sophie works as a ski instructor for the resort.
I would like to go and read the first three books of the series sometime and look forward to reading more about Lucky and friends.

    4 STARS

This is the third book in the series.  The mystery was okay.  I guessed right about a lot of it before the reveal.  To me I liked best the relationships between all the characters.  Especially the square dancers and callers.

I liked the ending of the book. It fit really good for me.

The square dancers and callers sure go to a lot of events.  They work hard on learning the calls and the dances. It makes you want to check out square dancing in your own area.  It brings lots of my own memories from years ago trying to learn it.  It sounds like a lot of fun and companionship.

Darla King is the main character.  She is a caller for square dancing and travels a lot with it.  While she is away her new neighbor is found dead in her driveway.  Darla is a widow and her daughter is away at college.  She is dating a FBI Agent.

Darla is curious about her neighbor.  She only met him once for about 5 minutes but know one believes her.  Especially the bad guys.  Someone broke into her house and gave it a good search.

This a clean read and a fast read.

The setting is in Texas.  It shows the life of square dancers in the area.  It is full of drama and mystery and makes you want to dance.

Caitlin is the ten-year-old niece Andie never knew she had. Silent, wary, and shy as can be, Caitlin only responds to the horses that run wild across the island. Andie has no idea how to deal with Caitlin—until Sam Brennan enters the picture. A tall, handsome loner who rehabilitates abused horses, Sam is able to help Caitlin break out of her shell. But that’s not all: He finds a way to touch something deep in Andie’s soul, opening her up to the healing power of love. My review: Heartbreak Cove by Lily Everett

    4 STARS

This is third book in the series.  I have not read the first two but I thought it stood alone.  There are some good moral issues brought up in this book. Is a horse property? Should powerful people be able to get away with anything? Is stealing anything can it be right? It made me think what do I believe?
I figured out where the book was headed on the issue.

I think it is wrong to steal a horse.  But it is wrong to poison a horse.  I think we need stronger laws to protect abused animals. When I used logic it is wrong to steal than I think about my animals and they are more than things. They have personalities, feelings and want love.

Sheriff Andie Shepard is surprised with a ten year old niece Caitlin.  Her brother never knew he was a father.  He was on his way shipped out to serve in military. Andie takes in Caitlin till her brother gets back.  She is single and up for relection.

I really like how Andie keeps reassuring Caitlin and how she explains about laws and rules.

Caitlin's mother died.  She loves horses especially Queenie.  She is learning to ride.  She had a hard first ten years. I like her.

Sam Brennan has come to Sanctuary with Queenie a horse that needs physical and emotional help.  He is staying with his cousin.  Sam has a lot of secrets he is keeping to himself.  He has a problem with authority. He is teaching Caitlin about horses.

Sanctuary Island has  wild horses and they are protected.  Only certain people can have anything to do with them.  So they can survive on the island.

I enjoyed reading Heartbreak cove and would love to read the first two books in the series.  The book is romantic, caring characters, thoughtful and makes you want to cheer.

I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and St. Martin's Press.  In return I agreed to give Heartbreak Cove a honest review.

This is my first kindle worlds book that I have read. This is in the world of Miss Fortune  but written by a different writer. If I compare to Jana than this would be only 3 stars. But I thought it was a good novella that was entertaining and true to Miss Fortune world.

I liked the characters and would like to see more of Miss Felicity Chance. I love that she cares about her father and has gone to look for him.  She also loves purses.

Bayou Bubba is dead and clues lead Felicity and her PI Cal to thinking he might be her father but can't get a positive ID on the body so they try and back track him.

I would have liked a longer book. More in depth of characters and there past.
I would read more from Sam Cheever in the future I have already downloaded one .

I like the community of Thunder Point.   This is mainly Grace and Troy's story.  But does catch up on a few other couples we have met in previous books.  There is some suspense and drama.  But mostly just good characters, relationships and good humor.  I really laughed at a couple of scenes. Also a few love scenes.

Grace owns the flower shop in Thunder Point.  I had no idea about her past before.  I like Grace how she is independent, hard worker, good friend and talented. Grace likes Troy but he liked her best friend Iris who just got married.

Grace has a surprising past as a famous figure skater.  No one in Thunder Point knows that because she is using only her middle name. Her past catches up to her though.

Troy is a high school teacher, and works at Cooper's bar part time.  He is into extreme sports.  At first he seems just like a play boy.  He wants to show Grace a good fun time playing.

I had to finish reading One Wish till I was done. I enjoy reading Robyn Carr's books.  She makes you like the whole community of characters.  You never know when a different character would come into the story,

The setting is a small Oregon beach town.

I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Harlequin.  In return I agreed to give a honest review of One Wish.

This was a good setup for this new series.  Some of the secondary characters are old familiar ones. I want to read the rest of the series. There is a lot of drama going on in this story.  There are couple of different mysteries. Lots of action.  Clean read too.

Olivia Hamilton is engaged to  Cooper Barnett. At her engage party we find that Livie is being blackmailed and is pregnant.  Cooper might not be the father.

Cooper Barnett is training wild mustangs.  He works for Senator Buckmaster.  He does not want to take any help from the Senator to build his house.  He wanted to wait till he had the house finished but Olivia does not want to wait.

Senator Buckmaster Hamilton has six daughters.  His first wife Sarah died twenty odd years ago or did she.  Senator Buckmaster is getting ready to run for President of United States.  He owns a big ranch.  Angelina is his second wife.

Lot of people are betting that Cooper and Olivia will never get married.

The characters are interesting.  I want to see what happens to them next.  I want  to see the one mystery solved.

The setting is Beartooth, Montana. Modern day.

This is a nice seek & find with Book of Mormon scenes and items found in the scriptures.  I really liked the art work. some were funny, some were unique and even has the scriptures where the items were found.  Even tells a little about what the scenes were.
This would be a good book for keeping kids quite while they look for the hidden objects.
I had fun looking for the items in the pictures.

My review: Three Sisters  (Emily Castles Mysteries #1) by Helen Smith

     4 STARS

Three Sisters is a British mystery novel.  It is only 104 pages.  It is a pretty good story.  I did guess part of the mystery early.  I liked Emily.

Emily likes mysteries.  She is really feeling the loss of her dog.   Which I can understand some of it.

I found it interesting that a group just moves into a empty house fixes it a little.  They are having a big party and inviting everyone.  It is Halloween and Guy Fawkes night.  The group is a troupe of circus performers.  Not sure what is real and what is just a act.

Emily sees one of the blindfolded knife thrower sisters get stabbed with a knife.  The police are called and the dead girl stands up and says it was an act. Emily is not satisfied with the answer.

The setting is London, England at the end of Oct.
It is a clean read, some humor, some sadness.  A interesting read as you try and figure out with Emily just what is going on.  Who do you trust?

It would be interesting to see what happens next to Emily.

Deadly Assets has twists and turns some I saw and others I did not.  Did not want to put the book down till I was through. Allison Campbell and those close to her are back in this second mystery.
    I like Allison and friends.

Allison Campbell owns her own business. She is a image consultant. She is divorced to Jason who is her boyfriend. She bought her business from her Mia her mother-in-law.

Vaughn works with Allison.  He takes care of his twin brother. He changed his life after his brother got shot when they were teenagers.

They have two new clients. One a Italian heiress from Finger Lakes.  The second is a shy eighteen year old from Scranton, Pennsylvania.  They both go missing on the same day and the last one to see them last was Vaughn. Neither family really wants to involve the police.  Vaughn is interviewed though.

Allison, Vaughn, Mia and Jamie are not going to just let go.  They are determined to find out where the women are.  Are they even connected?

There are lots of secrets, mob, someone is following Allison. There is danger around them.  There is a love scene.  Not sure what I think of the ending.  It works though.  I look forward to seeing what happens next with Allison and her friends.
