Louisiana Longshot (Miss Fortune Mystery #1) by Jana Deleon

It was a hell of a longshot...

CIA Assassin Fortune Redding is about to undertake her most difficult mission ever--in Sinful, Louisiana.

With a leak at the CIA and a price on her head by one of the world's largest arms dealers, Fortune has to go off grid, but she never expected to be this far out of her element. Posing as a former beauty queen turned librarian in a small, bayou town seems worse than death to Fortune, but she's determined to fly below the radar until her boss finds the leak and puts the arms dealer out of play.

Unfortunately, she hasn't even unpacked a suitcase before her newly-inherited dog digs up a human bone in her backyard. Thrust into the middle of a bayou murder mystery, Fortune teams up with a couple of seemingly-sweet old ladies whose looks completely belie their hold on the little town. To top things off, the handsome local deputy is asking her too many questions. If she's not careful, this investigation may blow her cover and get her killed.

Armed with her considerable skills and a group of old ladies referred to by locals as The Geritol Mafia, Fortune has no choice but to solve the murder before it's too late.

My Review: Louisiana Longshot (Miss Fortune Mystery #1) by Jana Deleon

4 stars

I have had this book on my kindle for awhile now, I am glad that I finally read it. It is a mystery, full of humor, quirky characters that I loved. I did not put the book down till I finished it.

Fortune Redding worked for the CIA but she is in trouble so her boss hid her in a small southern town. She is completely out of her depth. She is smart, agile, killer and she hates to lose. She is single. Her cover a beauty queen librarian. She is supposed to keep a low profile. Everything goes wrong right off the bat.

She gets off to the wrong foot with the deputy every time she turns around. Finds a dead body or the dog does. She also gets hooked in with some little old ladies who are not what they seem at all.

You smile the whole time you are reading it. Has lots of twists and turns that you don't expect.

I want more of Miss Fortune Mysteries. One is not enough.

Resurrection in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law #4) by Jana Deleon

Helena Henry was hell on wheels—both alive and dead—when she resided in Mudbug, and a year in heaven hasn’t improved her one bit. Now, she’s back and has brought trouble with her.

When it becomes apparent that a major crime is occurring in Mudbug, Colt Bertrand is more than frustrated to be saddled with an inexperienced game warden, especially one who looks like Jadyn. My Review: Resurrection in Mudbug

4 Stars

I laughed so hard in places. This is a light hearted book. Some old characters are back and a few new ones. I like the characters, the laughter, the strong women.

The main Character that is back is Helena Henry. She has been in Heaven for a year and now she is back causing mayhem. Helen was not a nice person when she was alive. She still has a lot of issues.

Their is a couple of scenes with Helen running around scared for her life or scaring others that just made me laugh out loud. The type of scenes that you just want to stop reading and share it with others.

Jayden is the new game warden. She is also Maryse cousin. Her first day on the job is a wild one . She also sees Helena talking with Maryse. So everyone is worried that her life is in danger.

Colt is the sheriff of Mudbug. He has issues with Jayden. He is the take charge type of person.

This book is a fast paced story. takes place in small town of Mudbug, Louisiana and the surrounding swamp areas.

I hope we see more of Helen and her friends back for more fun and laughter. I will read more books by Jana Deleon.

I bought it on Amazon.

Working with pro-football superstars taught tough-talking PR woman Taryn Crawford one thing—she can go toe-to-toe with any man. But then dark, dangerous former Special Ops Angel targets her for seduction…and challenges her to resist his tempting kisses.

Even in four-inch heels, Taryn never backs down. Unless, somehow, Angel can convince her that surrender might feel even better than victory.

My Review: When We Met by Susan Mallery (Fool's Gold #13)

4 stars

I love the Fool's Gold series of books. The characters are interesting and so different. There is such a community with old familiar characters. There were a variety of new characters that still your heart. It is full of relationships with the characters. I did not put the book down till I had finished reading it.

There are a few love scenes that I skipped over. Another part of the book is the break up and party after. This time their is a different party twist on it.

We learn a lot about Scores in this book. Taryn is partners with three ex football players. She is the creative force of the team. They are moved into town now. Jack, Sam and Kenny are rich former pro-football players. The four of them are like family.

Angel is the last unattached member of the bodyguard school. He is a widower. Has no plans to get married again. He is really attracted to Taryn and lets her know up front.

The Acorns are loveable and scare Angel when he finds out what they really are. Taryn strikes a deal she will help him if he will help her to get ready for a client she has.

I like how Angel wants to do service and give back to the town. He is a good roll model.
I also like how Taryn sees a need and tries to help with friends she comes up with a good idea that helps the person she was targeting but also helped a lot of others in the process.

While Angel and Taryn's romance is the main characters of the story it is so much more. I love how all the characters are part of the story and we get to see so much about the characters in their lives.

This book has a lot of charm, humor and is very entertaining. There is drama and action with romance on top of it.
I will keep reading Fool' Gold books in the future.

I was given this ebook to read for purpose of giving a honest review of it by Netgalley and Harlequin.

My Review: Breaking Point (Shadow Warriors #5) by Lindsay McKenna

4 STARS

Breaking Point seems like it has it all. Interesting characters, drama, romance. action, honor and heartbreaking situations.
It is non stopping action, drama I did not want to put the book down till I had finished.

The setting is in Afghan. Bay Thorn has been assigned atop secret mission. She is joining a Navy Seal team as a medic. Bay cares about people. She is brave, talented, smart. She speaks their language, and on top of it she is a sharp shooter.

Gabe Griffin is set to teach her the Navy Seals training that she will need on missions with his team.

Their are Seals who do not welcome Bay into their group. They do not think a woman can belong to their group and keep up that she will costs lives. Hammer is the biggest person outspoken against her. On first day Hammer and Bay get into a sniper rifle competition. She borrows Gabe's rifle. She has never used the military sharpshooter rifle. Bay did tell them she shot long distances to get meet for her family.

Bay proved that she could shoot and belong to their group.

The book got a little about how tough war is on everybody. How little the people of Afghan have compared to what we take for granted here in the states.(I personally live below the poor line in our country. Compared to them I am so rich. With warm house, groceries & clothes a plenty. Hey my outhouse is nailed shut.)

It also makes me want to sent a package of cookies to someone who does not receive any from home. Thank you for keeping our Country safe and trying to make a better world.

There is no boring parts to this story. I cared about Bay and was heart broken with her when some of her patients don't make it.

I like reading Lindsay McKenna's novels. They entertain, educate and leave us thankful for what we have.

My Review: Inn at Last Chance by Hope Ramsay

4 STARS

This had some twists that blindsided me. Lots of drama, action, book reviews and saving libraries, secrets and ghosts.
I like the reading guide questions. Sometimes I would like to read them first and if I had it would have ruined some of the twists for me.

I like Jenny. She is going for her dream. When she is offered a lot of money to sale her dream she says no. She is willing to fight for her dreams. Also willing to do a lot to help make her town better.

Gabriel Raintree has writer's block. He wants to come back to Last Chance and live in his family's Jonquil house that he just sold.
He is brooding, stubborn and has secrets. He believes everyone has a price. He is a famous writer and his books have been made into movies.

Zeph is always quiet and seems to walk around with a gun in the woods. He warns Jenny and Gabriel to leave Jonquil alone. He does woodworking. He used to work for Gabriel's family. His grandfather blames Zeph for the death of Luke years ago.

Luke died as a teenager. Gabriel was 10 years old but does not remember the accident. Zeph was the only adult their with the three boys. Simon was their too. Luke has definite ideas about what he likes and dislikes. Luke loves animals.

Jenny has given up on finding a husband. She is starting her own business. She bought the old Jonquil house and is fixing it up to be a bed & breakfast. She loves to cook. She belongs to the local book club. She always read the chosen book till the end even if she does not like it.

The book club and saving the library are big components to the story. I admit to not having read most of the books they have discussed. Tempted to read some of their selections though like Little Women.

The setting for the story is outside of Last Chance a small southern town.

Jenny so far has no furniture in the bed and breakfast except an old iron bed that she has cleaned up and new mattress on it. When Gabriel wants into stay before its open Jenny says no. So Gabriel offers to buy it back. He wants to stay for three months so he can write his next book.

When Nita comes up with ideas to save the library it involves getting Gabriel involved with it. Get lots of folks interested and convince the county to keep its library.

This book is a good mix of a ghost story, romance and mystery all in one. Part of the violence is the ghost but someone else is trying to ruin Jenny. Lots of strong opinions come out that are causing fights around Last Chance.

I hope more stories come out that are set in Last Chance. The three stories that I have read set in Last Chance I have liked.

I was given this ebook to read and asked in return to give honest review of it by Netgalley.

Synopsis

Criminologist and foodie Cait Morgan was looking forward to her dream vacation in Mexico with her boyfriend Bud Anderson. She wasn’t anticipating a fresh corpse on the floor of a local florist’s shop, and she definitely wasn’t expecting Bud to become the prime suspect.

With Bud’s freedom, and maybe even his life, at stake, Cait has to fight the clock to work out which member of the small community living in the seemingly idyllic municipality of Punta de las Rocas might have killed the locally respected florist, and why. Needing to investigate under the watchful gaze of the local police, Cait has to keep her relationship with Bud a secret, and she soon discovers she’s not the only one with something to hide. Peeling back layers of deceit to reveal even more puzzles, Cait struggles with a creeping sense of unreality, desperate to save Bud . . . and, ultimately, herself.

In the third book in the beloved Cait Morgan Mysteries, The Corpse with the Emerald Thumb, travel to the idyllic Mexican countryside as Cait Morgan works against the clock to clear her wrongly accused partner of murder.

My Review:The Corpse With The Emerald Thumb (Cait Morgan #3) by Cathy Ace

4 STARS

This is the third Cait Morgan mystery. The second one I have read. I did guess who the killer was earlier on but had no idea about all of the secrets that were revealed. Cait and Bud go on vacation to Mexico together. While Bud is gone to get some supplies and flowers he comes across a murder. Bud is arrested for her murder.

Bud refuses to say anything after yelling something for Cait to hear. So the cops have no idea on him even what country he is from.
I like Cait Morgan. She is smart, remembers everything she sees. She saw Bud go into the flower shop and no one else who had gone in and out right before Bud. Cait cleans out where they were staying and took all of Bud's stuff. As Bud's old partner Jack told her too.

Cait is now staying in a different place and her arrival looks completely different time. The local chief of police recognize's Cait from reading all her books and asks her to help him figure out who the killer he has behind bars is.

I really like the characters of this story. We really don't get to see much of Bud in this story.

Setting is a small town in Mexico that has a tourist town. Lots of tequila information in book. As I don't drink it was interesting.

The pace was easy going. Cait does a good job trying to figure out who the killer was while everyone else was sure Bud was guilty.

My Review: Where There's Smoke, There's Prometheus by Sara M. Barton

3 STARS

This has a complex plot that in many ways went over my head. I was trying to follow all the twists and turns I never really connected to the characters. I was surprised many times at where the plot was taken too. It has spies, violence and action. You never are sure who to trust.
I would not like to live that way.

Maddy Walker is a college student. One of her professors really works to draw her into his beliefs. Their is a lot of peace not war, anti government, psychics. Maddy wants to work with dying patients. If you did not agree with the professor you were kicked out of his class.

The setting for the most part was after Vietnam college campus during the cold war with USSR. With sleeper cells with a 50 year plan.

I can see how a lot of the issues of the 60's are still around with different agendas. anti-war at colleges, drug scenes, brain washing, sleeper cells, You can see history repeating itself in so many ways.

I liked Maddy but the other characters where all hiding agendas. Never really connected and cared for the others characters. Some of the characters that I did not like seemed to succeed in life.

I like Sara's mysteries and will continue to read her stories. If you like deep complex stories try this book.

There is a lot of violence but she rates her books PG. I agree it is not graphic in details of violence.

My Review: Among Friends by Jim Sichko

4 STARS

I liked how easy to read and understand the stories that Father Jim tells. I am not Catholic but can learn from him. Some of the Catholic terms were unfamiliar too me but did not interfere with the stories and life lessons Father Jim was teaching. He reaches out to others. He shares his faults very honestly. I smiled a lot with this book. He shares his trials, his miracles, his faith.

One thing he has been sharing is having a set of fundraisers for his church that was in debt. Part of the money raised would go to the debt and the other to other charities. He share experiences with Regis, Dolly Parton, Bill Cosby and even Donny Osmond. He even told his experiences with the Mormon Missionaries at the concert. I enjoyed hearing his stories and experiences. It is very entertaining but also faith promoting.

The more we learn about other religions and learn to respect our differences, and find what we have in common makes for a better world.

I would read other books by Father Jim. He is easy to like and admire, while being very human.

The Sage After Rain A love story by Jaclyn Hawkes

High Society or High Desert?
A Washington D.C. socialite would never walk away from the power and prestige of marrying a sitting U.S. Congressman—especially not to live in the high desert out west, would she?
At least that’s what Taya Kaye hopes the corrupt elected officials from inside the Washington beltway assume. Faced with the choice of disappearing into the witness protection program, or into the high desert, Taya opts for Colorado color country and a world far removed from the glamour and hype of high society.
It’s not so secret as secluded, and surprisingly, after what she’s been through at the hands of those in power, Taya is just fine with that. It’s peaceful and simple. Unpretentious. Safe.
After all, what could possibly happen to her in the desert, where the smell of the sagebrush after the desert rain is like a drug? And who knew she’d discover the most masculine and intriguing man she’d ever met out in the middle of nowhere?
Sometimes power has more to do with strength, than with politics.

LDS Romance story. I liked it. Others might find a lot of religion talk in it. It is a clean romance with some danger on the side.

I like Taya. She is smart, beautiful, believes in helping others, of doing what is right. Taya starts out getting ready to go to a fundraiser with her parents and fiancé a U.S Congressman. Her mom wants her to take off her jacket and show her arms. Taya refuses because it would not be modest. Soon everyone is trying to pressure her into it. Taya stays strong. but her fiancé gets mad and hits her and knock her into the wall. While she is hurt bleeding everyone including her parents leave her hurting on the floor.

Taya presses charges and because the police taking evidence more misdeeds come to light. They want her to go into witness protection. Instead she goes out west to college friend and gets hired to watch sheep all by herself.

Matt Maylon life is a mess. He somehow ended up living with a girl named Stacy who drinks a lot. He is supposed to be working in an office, but his coworkers instead of working are just staying at motel, partying and doing drugs. So Matt trying to save his job does their work and his.

Matt is a nice guy and hard worker. When he runs across Taya tending sheep. They slowly become friends and help each other when things get dangerous. Taya also helps Matt to save his job.

They both feel they can trust each other and Matt ends up camping by her sheep trailer using her electricity and shower. He helps her to stay safe. Her knowledge and use of rifle saves him. They for the most part at first just end up leaving things for each other like dinner or breakfast.

My Review: Burnout by Teresa Trent (Pecan Bayou Series #5)

4 STARS

I have liked the two books of Pecan Bayou that I have read. It is a cozy mystery with characters I find interesting and sometimes funny.

Betsy now married mother of two teenagers. It is a big change for the newly blended family. She writes a newspaper column Helpful Hints. She also gets involved solving murder mysteries.

Leo is a weatherman and has been asked to fill in for a sick tv weatherman Hurricane Hal. He had one son now another one. Leo is working two jobs right now. So hardly gets to see Betsy and the boys.

Zach is 11 months younger than Tyler. He is having a hard time adjusting to a new brother and step father. He feels that Tyler is so much better than him.

Tyler is the new kid in town. He is making friends and doing well.

Rocky the newspaper owner is presumed dead in the fire of the newspaper. Rocky has made lots of people mad at him for different articles he has published. He has no family.

Betsy does not want to believe that Rocky died in the fire. She is determined to find out what he was working on and their alibi for the time of the fire.

There are a few suspects. I kept guessing wrong. Their is some other things in the story line that I did figure out early.

I really liked the scene with the woman from the beauty parlor arrive to help Betsy. It is funny picture in my mind.
I love the town of Pecan Bayou and their involvement with everyone business. The caring of different characters and their relationships to each other. The humor in the book is fun and made me smile a lot.

I would love to go back and read the other books that I have missed in Pecan Bayou series.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it.

Book Excerpt

An hour later, Tyler and I walked into the Harvest Dance with our arms full of every baked item we could get our hands on from the grocery store. The tables were already covered in sparkling autumn colored table cloths with tasteful pumpkin and scarecrow centerpieces. It was stunning, and I hated to plop a box of Tasteeo Cupcakes on top of it all.
Phyllis, dressed in a mustard turtleneck with a maroon silk scarf tied around her neck approached. “What is this?” Her face turned white, and then was replaced with a complimentary fall color of scarlet red.
“Uh…” I stammered. “I had a little difficulty with the pumpkin squares, but you know kids. They’ll eat anything sweet, right?”
I waited for her to reassure me, but she seemed to be at a loss for words.
“You want me to open up these boxes, Betsy?” Tyler asked.
“Yes, if you would. I’m sure Mrs. Hamlin has lovely plates for us to put these on.”
Phyllis gritted her teeth and turned toward Tyler. “There are some paper plates over there.”
She turned back to me and took hold of my arm squeezing tightly on my bicep with her tastefully manicured nails.
“I specifically told you to make the pumpkin squares. If I wanted a hodge podge of junk food I would have simply stopped down at the Circle K Convenience store.”
Another mother stepped by with her freshly groomed son in tow. “Lovely tables Phyllis,” she said with a little wave.
“Thank you Shelley. We work very hard to make it a wonderful experience for our children.” Somehow I knew she wasn’t including me in that statement.
“I tried to make the pumpkin squares, but we’ve had flu at our house, and … I lost track of time, and they burnt.”
“Then why didn’t you just make another batch?”
“There’s not a can of pumpkin left in the entire town.”
“Yes, there is. I have four cans of pumpkin in my pantry. All you had to do was call me.”
The principal walked by. “Beautiful job, Mrs. Hamlin. Don’t know what we’d do without you.”

Synopsis

Hairstylist Azalea March is looking forward to a wild weekend in Las Vegas with her friends. Oh, sure, they’re supposed to be there on business, attending the biggest hair show on the west coast, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a little fun. But fun quickly turns to drama. On the first morning of the show, Dhane, the biggest celeb of the hair-styling world, is found dead. As it urns out Azalea’s friend, Vivian, not only knew Dhane, but the tale she weaves of how they met is faker than a showgirl’s uh… assets. When Vivian confesses to the murder and is arrested, Azalea knows there’s no way she could have done it and suspects Vivian may be trying to protect someone. But who?

Azalea now has to convince Alex, the sexy detective from her past, to help her prove Vivian’s innocence and comb through clues more twisted than a spiral perm. But the truth is stranger than anything found on the Las Vegas Strip, and proving Vivian’s innocence turns out to be more difficult than transforming a brunette into a blonde.

About This Author

Best selling author, Beth Yarnall, writes romantic suspense, mysteries and the occasional hilarious tweet. A storyteller since her playground days, Beth remembers her friends asking her to make up stories of how the person ‘died’ in the slumber party game Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board, so it’s little wonder she prefers writing stories in which people meet unfortunate ends. In middle school she discovered romance novels, which inspired her to write a spoof of soap operas for the school’s newspaper. She hasn’t stopped writing since.

For a number of years, Beth made her living as a hairstylist and makeup artist and co-owned a salon. Somehow hairstylists and salons always seem to find their way into her stories. Beth lives in Orange County, California with her husband, two sons, and their rescue dog where she is hard at work on her next novel.

My Review:Dyed and Gone by Beth Yarnall

4 STARS

Azalea and friends make for a fun cast of characters. Even the suspects are a range of characters that keep you guessing about who might be guilty or not. Lots of drama, action and romance among the hairstylist convention in Las Vegas. It is also a clean cozy mystery.

Azalea March is a salon owner that is depressed over romance that is over before it really started. Her two friends get her to go with them to the convention. Azalea is a very curious person. She gets a invitation and room key to come up to Dhane's hotel room after only meeting him that morning.

Vivian is her partner and friend. She turns out that she knows the famous Dhane and lies to her friend how she met him. She is found in Dhane hotel room. She turns up confessing to the murder. Her boyfriend is James back home.

Juan Carlos is the other friend and hairstylist that goes to Las Vegas with Azalea, & Vivian. He is single too. Juan gets into a fight with Richard who used to work with them. They are fighting a lot.

Alex is a detective and the boyfriend that Azalea was being depressed over. He comes with James to help prove Vivian's innocent.
I like Alex and Azalea they keep each other guessing about their relationship.

Azalea does not believe her friend is a murder and she is determined to find out who is the killer. Azalea turns up everywhere and gets on Detective Kennedy's radar as a suspect.

There is a lot of humor, lots of suspects. Azalea gets into a lot of trouble. I really like the makeover she did on one of policeman.
I would like to see more of Azalea and her friends in future books.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it.

The Most Important Catch by Jaclyn M. Hawkes

Run or die!

She knew too much, and she’d seen too much. And the police refused to help. Knowing that she was to be the next scheduled death, Kelly Campbell hid under head to toe black leather and a tinted motorcycle helmet and ran for her life.

When the weather turned cold, she turned south. She ended up in North Carolina, home to one of the most famed and eligible NFL football stars in the whole league; only she didn’t know that. She thought he was a businessman. Not being a huge fan, all she knew was that he was incredibly attractive, kind, generous, and that she was safe with him. Or was she?

His brand of fame proved to be all but deadly, but his fame wasn’t nearly as lethal as his attraction. He kept her safe and protected. All except for her heart.

My Review: The Most Important Catch by Jaclyn M. Hawkes

4 STARS

I have been reading a lot of her books the last few days. I have liked all of them so far. It does talk a little about LDS but not preachy. Is a clean read. Has some danger and tension. I love the characters.

Kelly Campbell is a nurse. She saw too much and realized her life was on the line. She went to the police but could tell he was not going to do anything about what she saw and knew. So she faked her death is on the run.

Kelly is 23 smart and brave. Her cousin helped her with old motorcycle and what cash he had. She took no id or credit cards.
She ran out of gas in middle of the country.

Robby Robideaux loves his career but hates all the attention he gets from women for the wrong reason. He is tired of the rat race. He buys a old run down farm house not far from the city. He sees the broken down motorcycle being pushed from a young kid in leathers and helmet. He offers to give him a ride. When refused he decided to go buy a gas can of gas and take it to him.
Later he sees him taking of the helmet and her lush hair fall down.

He talks to her at restaurant and feels like he should offer her the job of caretaker. Help him get the place livable. She accepts.

Kelly has no idea who he is. She treats him like a regular person. Robby knows it cant last for long but it is refreshing to him.

I just enjoyed reading about the characters. I like how Robby p
describes his job as a wide receiver and his friend the quarterback describes his job is funny.

I will keep reading Jaclyn M. Hawkes books.

The Outer Edge of Heaven by Jaclyn M. Hawkes

Montana truly is heavenly. Especially a certain handsome rancher. Her parents want a clout wielding attorney, safely enthroned in an appropriately high end Mercedes sedan and a tailored business suit. She just wants to teach kindergarten. When her "all-powerful" parents actually choose her future husband, who just happens to be a divorce lawyer named Elroy, Charlie opts out and heads for Big Sky Country. After all, who marries a divorce lawyer? She and her best friend Fo, who have been buddies since the third grade, go to work on his cousin's sprawling ranch in the heart of the Montana Rockies. Filled with colorful characters of all shapes, sizes and species, including an orphaned baby pig, most of the Langston family put the fun in dysfunctional, -give or take a couple of black sheep. There's one in every family, isn't there? Add to that glorious scenery, a horse of her own, and one extremely attractive cousin rancher, Luke Langston, and it makes for a summer never to be forgotten. Which might not be a good thing. She has the time of her life, but her heart may never recover. Once again, Jaclyn M. Hawkes spins a tale filled with a deft mix of humor, romance, and tension that will leave you wishing that she'd kept on writing.

My Review:The Outer Edge of Heaven by Jaclyn M. Hawkes

4 STARS

I liked the plot of this story. The humor was funny. The characters were likeable and still had faults and good points.

Charlie goes with her best friend Fo to work at his family ranch in Montana instead of going home after she graduates from collage and standing up for what she wants against her parents. Fo's relatives are surprised when his best friend since he was young is actually a girl.

Charlie wants to be a teacher someday. She is smart, talented, strong except when facing her parents. They want her to be a lawyer and have picked out her future husband Elroy. She is single and does not plan to marry a divorce lawyer her parents have chosen for her.

Luke is running his family ranch helping his father. He is surprised to find Charlie is a girl. He has to figure out where he can put her. He really says they need help with the children. Luke is engaged to be married.

Jamie is 2 years old and cute sounding little boy.
Evie and Elsa are four and five years old
Tuckett is 14 years old

Chase is the oldest. He works out a lot and chases the girls. He does as little as he can.

Chase and Luke's mother died. Tuckett's mother left his father when he was only 6. Richard's third marriage is not happy.

Charlie is strong and makes a difference with everyone. Stepping into help with the little ones. Just like Luke asked for help. If only she can stand up to her parents.

These characters have real problems that a lot of people are facing. Dealing with moral problems, stalkers, teens smoking, unwed pregnancy.

I like reading Jaclyn M. Hawkes books and will continue reading them.

For Joey: A love story (The Rockland Ranch Series) by Jaclyn M. Hawkes

He didn’t mean to mislead her.
She didn’t mean to fall in love with him.
Joey Rockland is the only sister among 6 brothers on the sprawling Rockland Ranch. Leggy, beautiful, and the best darn exotic sports car mechanic in the whole valley, Joey has lots of male admirers, but no one who actually makes her feel emotional fireworks—until an intriguing and hunky Easterner shows up.
Burnt out with high society, lonely, and mourning his father’s recent death, when New York banking tycoon Michael Morgan accepts a friend’s offer to use his remote ranch house in Wyoming, he has no idea what he’s getting himself into.
Thinking he will lick his wounds alone and unknown out west, Michael is surprised when even though he doesn’t tell anyone who or what he is, he’s cheerfully swallowed up into the huge Rockland family. Their world of brown eggs, homemade bread, anonymous acts of service, and unlocked doors is like a foreign country to him sometimes. Still, their slightly boisterous, yet always entertaining welcome is exactly what his thrashed spirit needs.
Now if he can just make Joey realize that he’s exactly what she needs as well.

My Review: For Joey: A love story (The Rockland Ranch Series)

4 STARS

I really like this series of romances. Love the characters both the old and the new ones. Love the family closeness to each other, love the scenery. That it is a good clean read that you don't want to put down.

Did not like how all of a sudden Joey lost her confidence for so long. It just did not seem real to me. Maybe it was because she was feeling pain and trapped.

Joey loves cars. even wants to design safer cars. She works on the family ranch. She is the only girl with 7 brothers. She has lots of guys wanting to marry her but she is holding out for love. One is a famous singer, one a doctor. She is talented, beautiful, kind and caring. She sees Michael in trouble and wants to help him.

Michael Morgan is a strong character. His father just died and he is morning. He gets out of town and stays at a friends house he just received. Michael is finding out that small town is a lot different than New York City. He is a banker, writes music and is rich.

Joey and her mom want to help Michael heal. They offer food, company and animals to help. In fact her whole family befriend him.

Michael actually knows two of the women that have married into the Rockland family. They know more about him in different ways, and keep his secrets.

Does talk about prayer, That their is life after death. That they believe in a heaven.

I bought this story from Amazon and have another couple of her books to read. I like Jaclyn M. Hawkes

Once Enchanted A love story (Rockland Ranch Series) by Jaclyn M. Hawkes

What happened to her fairytale life? She's young, she's sharp, she's the hardest working attorney in the whole LA office. Still, when Alexis O'Brien finally gets brutally honest with herself, she has to admit she's nothing more than a glorified workhorse for her boss and his slippery partners. Her dissatisfaction only deepens when she gets sent on a wild goose chase to rural Wyoming to find some elusive gifted architect for a project she thinks is corrupt. Then she meets Sean Rockland. The antithesis of the effeminate manicured types she's used to at work, with his muscles fairly rippling under his button down, Sean ticks her off from the very first moment she lays eyes on him as he's recuing her from car trouble-which only makes him laugh. Of course that doesn't help. Sean has this way of calmly logically encouraging her to face her issues that makes her even madder. Why does he always have to be right? Why is she drawn to him anyway? What's up with all these crazy fairies appearing? And why can't she find the darned missing architect? When her spitfire meets his steel sparks begin to fly! Watch for more of the Rockland Ranch series! You really can't go wrong with any Jaclyn M. Hawkes' book you pick up!" Cathy G.

My Review: Once Enchanted A Love Story

4 STARS

I really like this series. I love the characters, the settings, the humor, clean reads.

Once Enchanted A Love Story is the third book in the Rockland Ranch. In this book we get to know more about Sean Rockland. He is a talented Architect. He is only willing to work with certain people. If he does not like their ethics he won't work with them. He is single.

Alexis O'Brien is a attorney who works in LA. One of her bosses sends her to Wyoming to find Sean Rockland but she does not know his name just the company name. Alexis is out of place in Wyoming. Her cell phone does not work in most spots. She can't find the mystery Architect. She is the third person her boss has sent out to find him.

One of the first person she meets is Sean and they get off to a bad start. She thinks he works for a towing service. Because their is no hotel around Sean's mother offers her a place to stay while her car is being fixed. Even lends her a car.

Alexis is going everywhere she can think of to find him. Everyone promises they will pass on her card and tell Sean about her. They also chuckle when they find out she is staying at Rockland Ranch.

This does have LDS beliefs and talks about prayer.

I have read a few of her books and have enjoyed them. You can find my other reviews below.

My Review: Killing Jesus by Stephen Mansfield

4 STARS

At times this was a hard book to read. It is important to look back and see what Jesus did for you and me. I like the facts and the explaining why certain followers did or said something. At times it was laid out logical. Other times I just wanted to cry reading about the torture.

A lot of the details I have forgotten over the years. Like that their was three King Herod. I knew King Herod ordered all the boy babies under two to be killed. Did not know how gross he got before he died with his illness. I always figured that the number of boy babies was a lot higher that died. But one is to high.

I also liked how they told of Jesus riding into Jerusalem and how Pontius Pilate rode into Jerusalem on the other side with all the troops and compared them.

Another interesting fact was how many lambs were sacrificed in two hours at the temple.

This is a good look and understanding why so many people wanted Jesus to be killed. How many different times they wanted him to be killed.

This is a good book to read on Easter Weekend. Too really remember that Jesus is the Son of God. He died for us and he lives.

Stephen Mansfield used a lot of different resources to write this book from. That you can see where he got his information from.

The torture of all Jesus went through is very hard to read at times. At times very graphic. Explain just what happens when someone is crucified or scourged.

I believe that Jesus did live. He lived his life for us as examples of what to do. That he did miracles of making wine out of water, raising the dead.

This is the first book that I have read written by Stephen Mansfield. I would read more books by him in the future.

I was given this book to read and be part of its book tour. In return I have given my honest opinion of this book.

Excerpt

When we reach the deck, everyone stops to stare at me. Trying to ignore the blatant curiosity, I follow Hanna down the aft stairs to the brig. Zane and Taranis occupy cells across from each other. They're both sitting on the floor glaring daggers at each other. Hanna hands the key to me and slips away. Inching closer, I'm careful to remain out of reach of the two prisoners. As soon as they see me, both men jump up and start talking over each other.

"Ashlyn! How are you feeling, Love?" Zane asks.

"Ashlyn, my fiery angel, you are a ray of sunshine in this dank prison!" Taranis says.

"I'm gonna let you both out, if, and only if, you promise to behave," I threaten. Both men nod their agreement. "That means no fighting. It also means we never, and I mean never, speak of what happened last night." When I get no argument, I free Zane first and then Taranis.

"Do you even know what happened last night?" Zane asks, taking me into his arms. I stand rigid in his embrace, not sure if I'm ready to forgive him quite yet.

"Only what Hanna told me," I snap at him.

"I saved your virtue from this raving lunatic," Taranis says, pointing at Zane.

"Then you decided to take it for yourself!" Zane yells back at him.

"Did you not hear me?" I shout. Pulling myself from Zane's embrace, I back up and glare at both men. "No speaking of last night. Period. End of discussion."

"Yes, Love," Zane replies.

"Yes, virtuous virgin," Taranis replies.

"Taranis!" I release a menacing growl, and wince when my right eye starts to tic. "Yes?" he asks, eyes full of mock innocence.

"Run," Zane says.

Taranis listens to Zane's advice and takes off up the stairs to the deck with me hot on his heels.

Her debut novel, Shadow Fire, is the first book in The Light Chronicles series. Watch for book two, Stolen Moon, a standalone sequel, coming soon.

Is she doing something wrong or is she just cursed?

When Kyle Aldsworth enters the picture and sweeps her off her feet, Charlotte begins to hope that maybe she's not destined to be single forever. Praise for Gift of the Phoenix

“An incredibly impressive book that grips you from the very start. There is plenty of action in the story, some wonderful characters and magical, atmospheric settings. Donna has created a fascinating realm in this story which, even if you don’t consider yourself a fantasy fan, you’ll definitely enjoy.” – Excerpt of Stephanie Dagg’s review at Books Are Cool.

“As an avid reader of fantasy, I often encounter boring or overused plotlines—this was neither! With a fresh new take on fantasy adventure, Cook constructs an enchanting world of magic, kingdoms, rebirth, and death.” – Excerpt a review by Artemis at Fantasy Book Lovers Unite

“Gift of the Phoenix reminds me of a mix of Paolin’s Eragon and Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, but stands on its own as a unique fantasy-adventure. Cook creates a magic system that is intricate and unique, which can be hard to do in a genre littered with magic. The story is very complex, and yet very easy to follow… layers upon layers of intertwined plots that all culminate to a fantastic ending. I would recommend this book to anyone of any age.” – Excerpt of a review by Will Wortner at Zero2Fiction

My Review: Gift of the Phoenix by Donna Cook

4 STARS

Gift of the Phoenix is a long fantasy book. That I did not want to stop reading. It had a lot of characters, with a lot of secrets that slowly were revealed. You never knew fully who you could trust till it was revealed. It is a journey to save their world and the magic of the Phoenix. A prophecy that goes before them.

The three who are chosen are different from each other. Nicolai is a farmer, Corren is a wizard apprentice, Marcellus is a Prince. They are each given a stone and told to keep it secret. Not to tell anyone about it. The three stones have power and they will have to figure out what there stone can do.

They know when they are brought together with the prophecy that their will be a great betrayer. The three young men will have to work together to stop the evil spreading.

The Phoenix lives a long life than dies and comes back. With it the ashes give powers to different groups, but the last time was when the stones came and a smaller pile of ash was left. Some of the magic is dying.

Besides the Phoenix are other creatures that are in the book, some are a surprise others are fairies, Wizards. Their are Kingdoms, knights on horses. Castles. There are great battles and small ones.

There were characters that I rooted for. Others who I did not trust. Some I guess right others I was wrong about. Some I was sad to see them go. I want to say more but don't want to ruin the surprises of the story.

It is full of drama, action, heroes, some romance and evil that will keep you wanting to read till all the surprises are revealed. It is also a clean read.

I would read more from Donna Cook in the future.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it in return.
