Description
Newly-single magician Eli Marks reluctantly attends his high school reunion against his better judgment, only to become entangled in two deadly encounters with his former classmates. The first is the fatal mugging of an old crush’s husband, followed by the suspicious deaths of the victim’s business associates.
At the same time, Eli also comes to the aid of a classmate-turned-movie-star who fears that attempting The Bullet Catch in an upcoming movie may be his last performance. As the bodies begin to pile up, Eli comes to the realization that juggling these murderous situations -- while saving his own neck -- may be the greatest trick he’s ever performed.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
In real life, John’s not a magician, but he has directed six low-budget features that cost very little and made even less – that’s no small trick. He’s also written multiple books on the subject of low-budget filmmaking. Ironically, they’ve made more than the films. His blog, “Fast, Cheap Movie Thoughts” has been named “One of the 50 Best Blogs for Moviemakers” and “One of The 100 Best Blogs For Film and Theater Students.” He’s also written for TV and the stage. John lives in Minnesota and shares his home with his lovely wife, several dogs, a few cats and a handful of pet allergies.
My review: THE BULLET CATCH by John Gaspard An (Eli Marks Mystery #2)
4 STARS
I like magic shows so a book about a magician solving crimes is good. I did guess part of the killer. Their were some twists I did not see coming at all. So lots of suspense. I did like the characters. Especially the magicians. The plot was different one.
Eli Marks is a divorced Magician. He has moved back by his Uncle in an apartment upstairs from the his magic store. Right now he does not have a girl friend because they are taking a break.
Jake is a tv star in town making a movie about a magician who dies while performing a risky magic trick in a foreign country. Jake is afraid someone will try and kill him during the filming that part of the movie. He wants Eli to be at the filming to help him with the magic.
Eli and Jake go to their 15 year reunion from high school. While their they reconnect with Tricia who they had a crush on in high school. Tricia, Eli and Jake spend a lot of time talking while her husband flirts with other women. She hints that her marriage is on the rocks.
Their is a lot of stuff happening in this story. Eli is dealing with fear of heights and wanting to throw himself off a building.
Their is Jake making the movie. A murder that has Eli's ex-wife's new husband questioning him about the day after the reunion.
Lots of film quotes that I did not know by a mysterious Mr. Lime. I really like the neighborhood that Eli's lives in. While I love the personal life of Eli. In some ways I would say the story was too busy. But I don't know what I would cut out. The story works and keeps your attention.
It is a clean story and one I would like to see the characters again. It does make me want to watch a magic show.
I was given this ebook by Net Galley and Henery Press. In return I agreed to give honest review of The Bullet Catch by John Gaspard.
