My review: Nourish by Christi Silbaugh
4 STARS
I like how it has recipes that are healthier whole foods, instead of just telling you to move she shows you some yoga moves and explains them. Christi has also thrown in quotes to inspire you to keep trying and moving.
I never think to do anything with cauliflower besides steaming it. She bakes it, makes tator tots and other yummy ideas.
The recipes are ones that anyone can do. She has a healthier deviled eggs recipe without the mayonnaise. I love deviled eggs.
Her cookies look good and you need food processor instead of oven which would be real nice especially for summer months. I am going to have to buy some dates they are very useful in this cookbook.
The pictures are beautiful of the dishes. They make me want to go and try them. The pictures of the yoga models makes me want to go to beach. The scenery is so peaceful and beautiful.
The yoga I don't think I can do any especially by myself. I need the bed or chair yoga to start with but it gives me ideas. She gives you the name of the position, tells you how to do it and has someone doing the position in a photo.
I was given this ebook to read by Cedar Fort Publishing. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Nourish and be part of it's blog tour.
About the book:
After struggling for many years with a raging sweet tooth and emotionally-driven cravings, author Annie Oliverio began the journey back to a healthy, balanced palate. This is a cookbook focused on plant-based foods that protect, nourish, and heal – yet satisfy “cravings” that can easily trip one up when striving to eat healthier foods or when feeling lonely, stressed or in the need of comfort.
About the author, in her own words:
If there is an unnamed, undiagnosed condition where one suffers from planning, thinking about, and anticipating future breakfasts, lunches, and dinners while eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner, then I have it. And I don’t want to be cured. But I wouldn’t be opposed to having this ailment named after me.
I was fortunate to be raised in a home with two excellent cooks: my mom and dad. Mom covered the basics of breakfasts, lunches in brown paper bags, and a square meal at night. She also covered Thanksgiving and Easter dinners. Dad took over on Christmas Eve or whenever an ingredient—be it a stinky cheese or olives or eggplant or artichokes or polenta—caught his fancy. Sauce splatters and piles of pots and pans in the sink were guaranteed. Between mom and dad, my three siblings and I ate eclectically and well.
My own culinary journey got off to a rocky start when I began living on my own post-college. I went for convenience and speed (and sugary, fatty, salty) rather than quality. Slowly, however, I began buying more fresh and whole foods to make my own meals. At the same time, I was learning about what foods are best for our bodies. Long story short, my plodding and indirect journey led me to plant-based eating. I no longer rely on packaged, frozen, or prepared meals, and instead make everything we need right here in our own kitchen.
What about the non-food part of my life? Before escaping the mean city streets for the wild, windy plains of Oklahoma, I was an administrative assistant and office manager at a subscription fulfillment company in Boulder, at a think-tank in Santa Monica, at a university in Cambridge, MA, in the Green Zone in Baghdad, and at a non-profit in Washington, D.C.
I now spend a good deal of time walking the pastures trying to identify different types of grasses and insects, feeding hummingbirds, writing and reading, struggling to solve crossword puzzles (with a pen and a lot of Wite-Out), and blogging at An Unrefined Vegan and Virtual Vegan Potluck. I live in blissful satellite- and cable-free isolation with my husband, Kel, and our only son, Ike (part dachshund, part Labrador).
My review: Crave, Eat, Heal’ by Annie Oliverio
4 STARS
Crave eat Heal is a Vegan, no sugar, few oil cookbook. Now I am not a vegan but I can use this cookbook to eat healthier. There are so many of the foods listed that I have never heard of and some I have never tried. But I am going to try.
Annie tells us in the front of the book why and how she became a Vegan. What foods she eats if she needs certain vitamins or minerals. That cravings our bodies are telling us what we need in our diets.
One thing she tells us how to sprout seeds. I have not done that for years and have never tried all the different sprouts she mentions. I want to try the different sprouts. Getting fresh greens that anyone can do especially if you can't garden.
One thing she uses is Tofu. She shows us how she cuts it up which way for the recipes. She also loves her tofu press. I have never tried it but I am willing to now.
Annie has chapters based on what you are craving like sweets, sour, spicy even chocolate. Recipes that will satisfy you but are healthy. I want to try the chocolate cake recipe.
The pictures in the book are good and I like that every item that was made was eaten after the picture was taken.
In the back of the book she tells what brands and where she buys certain things on the internet because she does not live close to health food stores. I can really use those.
I know I am going to buy some foods that I have never tried lots of different beans, vegetables and spices and eat better.
I was given this ebook by Cedar Fort Publishers and in return I agreed to give honest review of Crave, Eat, Heal and be part of its blog tour.
My heart goes out to the people of Kathmandu and areas around it that are suffering so much. I read this book before the earthquake and now to know so much as changed since I read it. I looked at pictures of the area after I read it and now to know a lot has changed. God be with you. We cry with you and pray for you.
Sidney Marsh’s job as a New York travel agent is on the line. On her last two tours, she and her colleague Jay ended up smack in the middle of murder and mayhem. Their sleuthing sideline did not endear them to their employer, Itchy Feet Travel, so naturally they are relieved when their wealthy friend Brooke requests their presence on a no expense spared tour of India and Nepal. Another agency has made the arrangements, so all they need do is sit back and enjoy the ride. Well, not quite all. Brooke has enlisted them to keep a sharp eye on their fellow travelers, all “friends” who have grown rich from the demise of others. After surviving an attempt on her life, Brooke is certain the culprit must be one of the five: a handsome Scotsman, a Bollywood actress, an investment banker, a Parisian filmmaker, or a twice widowed blonde. Many of the tour accommodations prove to be as dodgy as the reputations of the travelers themselves. After one of the members of the moving house party dies of an apparent heart attack, everyone’s nerves are on edge. Sidney can hardly be blamed for assuming a deadly game is afoot … or for falling for Adam, the doting Scotsman. Now, if only she can unmask the killer before the killer beats her to the punch. Side Trip to Kathmandu is the third book in the Sidney Marsh Mystery series, which began with Shore Excursion.
About This Author
Shore Excursion was Marie Moore’s first novel, but not her first writing experience, and like Sidney Marsh, she is a native Mississippian. She graduated from Ole Miss, married a lawyer in her hometown, taught junior high science, raised a family, and worked for a small weekly newspaper, first as a writer and later as Managing Editor. She wrote hard news, features and a weekly column, sold ads, did interviews, took photos, and won a couple of MS Press Association awards for some of her stories.
In 1985, Marie left the newspaper to open a retail travel agency. She completed agency and computer training with Airlines Reporting Corporation, Delta Airlines and TWA, earned her CTC (Certified Travel Counselor) designation, and joined the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). For the next 15 years, she managed her agency, sold travel, escorted group tours, sailed on 19 cruises, and visited over 60 countries. Much of the background of Shore Excursion comes from that experience.
Marie also did location scouting and worked as the local contact for several feature films, including Heart of Dixie, The Gun in Betty Lou’s Handbag, and Robert Altman’s Cookie’s Fortune.
In mid-1999, because of her husband’s work, Marie sold the travel agency and moved to Jackson, MS, then New York City, Anna Maria Island, FL, and Arlington, VA. She and her husband now live in Memphis, TN and Holly Springs, MS.
Marie and her mystery novels have been featured in Click! Magazine, At Home Memphis and MidSouth Magazine, Portico Magazine, and Southern Writer’s Magazine. She has been a guest on WREG’s Live at 9, BookTalk, and The Earle Farrell Show. She has given 30 minute presentations: Whodunnit? Crafting the Mystery Novel and Finding A New Career in Mid-life to numerous civic groups, senior citizens groups, libraries, and from The Balancing Act Stage as part of the program of The Southern Women’s Show. She has served as a program panelist for Malice Domestic Mystery Conference (Bethesda, MD, 2012 and 2013) and Killer Nashville Mystery Conference (2013). In 2013, Marie’s books were specially chosen for inclusion in the onboard libraries of all the Holland America and Seabourn Cruise Line ships. GAME DRIVE, Book 2 in The Sidney Marsh Murder Mystery Series, was named Finalist in Foreword Review’s 2013 Mystery Book of the Year. Marie is a member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America.
Oh it makes me want to travel and see India and Nepal. Rich in travel settings in the story. I would not want to drink or get in the Ganga river. I would love to travel on a elephant to see other wild animals in jungle.
Sidney Marsh works for Itchy feet travel agency. She is warned that because of her last two tours had murders and she solved them, that she was on probation. She had better not come across another murder. But Brooke a rich favorite customer wants her and Jay on a tour of India. She has arranged thinks with a tour in India but wants them too.
Sidney is single southern lady who lives in New York and is a travel guide. She is curious.
Jay is another travel guide and they work together a lot. He is very into fashion and things just like. He is ten years older then Sidney. He is a fun character with good and annoying at times.
The mystery has lots of suspects and then a murder or heart attack of one of the suspects. The suspects have all profited by a loved ones death. The mystery is not the main focus of the story. The traveling and experiences really make this story one that I did not want to put down. The history and beliefs of the people is shared.in a way that I really enjoyed. Plus the characters are ones I was interested in seeing more.
This is a clean read but some of the history of a sight is not just mentioned.
I would like to read what happened in the first two books. I also wants to know what happens next to Sydney and Jay' future.
I was given this ebook to read and in return I agreed to give a honest review of Side Trip to Kathmandu and be part of its blog tour.

Temporarily assigned to the Shadow Squadron in a troubled region of Afghanistan, Chief Warrant Officer and pilot Leah Mackenzie is no stranger to conflict—even if most of her physical and emotional scars are courtesy of her vicious ex. Still, she's got a bad feeling about picking up a team of stranded SEALs. A feeling that's all too justified once enemy fire hits their helicopter and all hell breaks loose…
SEAL Kell Ballard's goal was to get the injured pilot out of harm's way and find shelter deep in the labyrinth of caves. It's a place of dark intimacy, where Leah finds unexpected safety in a man's arms. Where prohibited attraction burns brightly. And where they'll hide until the time comes to face the enemy outside…and the enemy within their ranks.

My review: Running Fire by Lindsay McKenna
4 STARS
Running fire is full of drama, romance, action, deals with abuse and deals with women in military.
Does have love scenes but not a major part of the story. I admire the Navy Seal characters. Some of the Army ones not so much.
Chief Warrant Officer and pilot Leah Mackenzie has got a temporary assigned to the Shadow Squadron in Afghanistan. She is the only woman pilot in the unit. Leah is a divorced. It was not good marriage
Kell Ballard is a Navy Seal. He is out in the Afghanistan borders in the caves in the mountain. He is looking for a certain terrorist and getting information on terrorists. Kell is divorced too.
Leah is co-pilot in helicopter going in too pick up two soldiers. When her helicopter is shot with a RPM. She makes it out.
Kell sees the helicopter shot down. He got the guys but too late. Kell sees the pilot crawl out the helicopter and runs too him. He is surprised when he picks the unconscious pilot over his shoulder and feels breasts. He moves and hikes up to a cave where he can look at her.
I could not put the book down till I was finished reading it. I liked the ending.

Robin's Reward is a romance with lots of drama, emotion and small town. It is a clean read. It does mention faith, prayer and God in a realistic way. I love the town hall meeting. It is my favorite scene in the book. Makes you want to clap and cheer too.
There are characters that I like and some you want to boo and hope they can be stopped in there tracks.
Robin Bennett is a small town of Bonita Creek’s librarian. (My dream job.) She has had some tough breaks. I really like and admire her. She is making a difference in her town. Born and raised in Springville, Utah, the first time Nathan Huffaker boarded a plane was when he left home to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kiev, Ukraine. The two years he spent in Kiev later helped him to base parts of “Stranded” on his missionary experiences. Huffaker recently graduated from Utah Valley University with a degree in English and now resides in Spanish Fork, Utah, with his wife and five kids.
My review: Stranded by Nathan Huffaker
5 STARS
This is a good LDS action, suspense novel. It definitely preaches LDS beliefs but it is just part of the story. The main characters are two missionaries in Kazakhstan. Another character is the Mission President of Kazakhstan.
President Howard Russell of the Kazakhstan Astana Mission received a call in the middle of night telling him to get his missionaries out of the country they were in danger. He started making calls right then.
Elder Johnson was from Texas his Russian was coming along with a strong accent. He was really positive.
Elder Schofield was at the end of his mission. He was good in talking Russian
Elder Johnson and Schofield had to get off the train because of left behind passport and their train blew up. President Russell thought they were dead.
The Elders were suspected by the Police as the terrorists who blew the train. The Mafia wanted them dead because they could finger the bomber. The Elders could not get ahold of anyone with there phone and bags blown up on the train. They needed to get to the US Embassy in Astana before it closed in a few days.
This is exciting with the two missionaries trying to get help but every time someone is blowing things up. Elder Johnson never stops trying to teach the gospel along the journey to those he comes in contact with. Elder Schofield keeps growing his faith along the way.
There is a lot of people willing to help the Elders along the way. I don't know if I would help two young men that the police wanted as bombers. It would be scary with bombs going off all over and the army taking over the country.
One of the policeman that works on catching terrorists Michael had met the missionaries the day before the bombing and was given the Book of Mormon. He just wanted to learn about their beliefs to see if they were a danger or not.
I did not put the book down until I had finished the story. I would read more from Nathan Huffaker in the future.

About This Author
Jo-Ann Lamon Reccoppa lives in Old Bridge, New Jersey, and uses her experience as a freelance correspondent as the basis of her protagonist’s career. Several of the incidents within these pages are actual occurrences. They have been shamelessly embellished and are not a blow-by-blow account of a few really bad days on the job. Hide Nor Hair is her second novel.
I liked Colleen. She is recently divorced with two kids. She works as a reporter for the local newspaper and wants on full time. She is curious, drinks too much and cares about her family.
This has action, mystery, humor and romance. It is a fast paced book.
Colleen and her sister Kate are going early to get their hair done before work, but when they get there the place is dark and the door is open. They go in and find the owner hairstylist is dead. Colleen tries to give CPR and Kate snaps pictures from her phone before they move the body.
Colleen gets to write the story and follow up on it for the paper.
Her daughter thinks it is cool that her mom keeps finding dead bodies in fact there is a pool at school on how many more bodies she finds before the end of school.
Colleen has a crush on her boss at work, trying to make ends meet on what she makes, work on her articles and deal with being a single mom.
The setting was New Jersey.
I really want to read the next book in this series and see where it goes. I hope it comes out soon.
I was given this ebook so I could give a honest review and be part of Hide Nor Hair blog tour.

I liked Double Duplicity so much I went and bought the next book in the series.
It has a good mystery. Likeable characters, drama, romance and action. It is also a clean read.
